I went to school with the kid in the commercial. He went on to get a part in the movie "Claudine", and also played in a Mad Magazine Movie entitled, "Up The Academy" with Ralph Macchio (Before Karate Kid). He also played on one of those crime series on tv. I wonder how he's doing. He was a little genius back in the days. Wendell.

This commercial touched my heart as a child. I was blessed with parents who made sure there was always something to read. I could not imagine all those children with no books. I always donated all my books after I read them. I never wanted anyone to miss out on the joy of reading, because Reading IS fundamental.

The shot of him hopping off the RIF van was something I always remembered. The shot of the world trade center is eerie though.

I remember the Ed Asner commercial but not this one. What year was this? I was born in 1972. I might not have been watching TV yet when this commercial was on.

Can anyone confirm who the narrator was? It honestly sounds like Leslie Nielsen.

Does anyone know the author of 'I Am Somebody'? I would like to buy the same book the young boy is reading. If anyone could help me, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! 🙂

Any updates on new Dick Gregory footage?
@reelblack6 жыл бұрын
Someone recently posted a very early TV appearance that was presumed lost. There may be more things like that in various archives that people will post. Beyond that, you’ll have to wait for the feature documentary I Am Dick Gregory that was announced before he transitioned.
