My kdrama recommendation for you would be 'My Mister'. I've watched 50+ kdramas in last 5 years and this is still in my top 5. It's about two people, a young girl in her early 20s and a married man in his late 30s, both going through tough times in their lives. It's a story about how these two people change each other's perspective on life just by their small acts of kindness. It is not a romantic relationship that they have, like it is in most kdramas. It's just a beautiful slow paced but heartwarming and sometimes heartwrenching story about life and it's struggles. Gabby you have to watch it sometime, you really have to. It is not a very popular show like the ones you've been recommended but trust me on this, you're gonna love it. It's been 3 years since i watched it and i still think about it. It is just amazing! Also, i realised, I've been watching you almost everyday for the last 1 month and you're probably one of my favourite KZbinrs, so congrats for that😁 Your reading vlogs and Recommendations videos are my personal favs.

This would be in my top ten TV drama series of all time, not just Korean. I re-watched it recently on Netflix and reminded myself why I loved it so much. The story is beautiful and the acting is so touching and subtle. I second your recommendation. 👌

What a treat! Yes, more please. You also asked for recommendations of other cultures that you could explore for future vlogs and I’d like to suggest a couple besides the obvious Scandinavian horror juggernaut. 😉 Perhaps India that has books like The Other Side: Dare to Visit Alone?, Season of Ghosts, A Face in the Dark and Other Hauntings, or The Face at the Window. And there are movies too, such as 13B: Fear Has a New Address or Machhli. Another possibility is Persian horror books and films. Some possible reads are The Blind Owl or Haunted in Milan, and the horror films would include A Dragon Arrives!, The Night, Under the Shadow, and A Girl Walks Home Alone. Have fun! 😊

@@gabbyreads You’re so welcome… and I didn’t even touch on the fun cooking experimentation possible! The Indian horror is interesting in that mythology is intertwined along with the aspect of traditional generational family responsibilities. The Iranian horror in the other hand is rich with socio-political messaging, often being called feminist horror because the themes illustrate issues re sexism and equality. Of course, the best horror is almost always a story birthed by some strong human emotion, attitude, or experience. It’s very exciting that you’re starting on this multi-cultural journey that’ll broaden not only your exposure to the creatives from different countries, but all of ours too! 🤩

Crash landing on you is absolute perfection. Rich SK girl lands in North Korea and is hidden by a soldier. Fake dating, forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, forbidden love, the hero protecting the girl from all bad, and a million more romance tropes. On top of that A+ action, great female friendships, fantastic overall arc. It's 100% bingeable.

As someone who's watched kdrama for a while... and a kpop fan for a while... here's some recommendations. You can find these on Netflix or Viki I believe if you watch legally. Flower of Evil (about a detective starting to suspect her husband of murder and personal favorite on mine) The Uncanny Counter (supernatural and surprisingly really good) Psychopath Diary (an amnesiac finds a psychopath's diary and thinks it's his 😬) Hospital Playlist It's Okay to Not Be Okay (for a show depicting mental health, it's really bold since it's a taboo subject in SK) Cinderella and the four nights Running man (A variety reality show for good laughs. There's a set casts and sometimes a couple celebrity guests as they play various games and find a winner. Sometimes they do themed episodes with a plot-twist. One time they even made a boat out of cardboard, duct tape, and saran wrap and crossed the han river) Song recs Dremacatcher: Scream 10cm: what the spring? B1A4: Like a Movie Epik High: Rosario, Lesson Zero Wonder Girls: I feel you Twice: cry for me, alcohol-free IVE: Eleven Mamamoo: egotistic

Drama wise, Hello, My Twenties is top tier! Also recommend Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (my favorite rom-com with some incredible actors - you get college life, athletic dreams, and even some hard-hitting moments about depression that have stayed with me over the years) and Reply 1988 (super long, but worth it - it's a slice of life drama set post-dictatorship about a group of families that live in a lower class neighborhood). Book-wise, Human Acts by Han Kang is one of my favorite books. It's a historical literary novel that focuses on the ramifications of the Gwangju Uprising for several characters over decades. I wouldn't read the full synopsis, because I somehow didn't, and there was an event towards the start that hit me especially hard because of that.

Rich people ones: - Sky Castle - Penthouse - The World of the Married - Mine - Graceful Family - Lie after Lie Some other stuffs: - Hi Bye Mama - Mr Sunshine - The Bridal Mask - 18 Again - Reply 1988

Omg "its okay to not be okay" (is in my opinion) the best k drama on Netflix!! Its so beautiful and emotional and the chemistry of the two main characters is fire!!!! The OST is Amazing too!! The main heroine is a children's book author and her books are beautifully illustrated and oddly creepy. The whole show has a hidden creepy vibe and the twist at the end... Chefs kiss!! Just watch it please!! Also on Netflix is a k drama called "Rain or Shine" and its basically about a mall that collapses (in the trailer, not a spolier) and the effects years later on several different POVs. Deals alot with PTSD, so very hard hitting. And its just awesome and moving and for lack of a cheesier word, lovely!!💜💜 Also love love love BTS!! Favorite songs are "The truth Untold" which is a great sleep song and "Mic drop" which is a great NOT sleep song lol. Also "Spring Day". definitely best to watch the MVs for these on KZbin to get the full effect. They're beautiful humans and amazingly talented performers!! Also on KZbin, they do a beautiful Live cover of Coldplays "fix you" and JK (youngest member, there are 7 btw) does a beautiful cover of "falling" by harry stiles. Wow that was a lot lol. But I just got so excited bc you're my favorite book tuber and BTS is my favorite group and I love love love K dramas so it was just all too much lol!! In the best way!! 😋💙

OMG! I've been reading thrillers/horrors since I discovered Goosebumps as a child and I must say, korean thrillers/horrors are in a whole nother league. Its so raw, so unnervingly truthful and the twists, men, the twists are twisted!!! Watch Kdramas for your movie channel to. I recommend watching Kingdom, Mouse, When the Camella Blooms, etc. Its a wonderful new creepy world, lol! Also, loved that you started listening to BTS because their songs are lyrically super genius, choreography, visuals, talents are amazing, their work ethic and passion for what they do is super inspiring, and their personalities are so qwerky chaotic and fun but so humble and real. Its another rabbit hole you'll want to explore. :)

With BTS there are two main units in the group and then subunits, but basically you have Vocal Line who are: Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook. Then you have Rap Line with: RM, Suga and JHope. You'll see a Rap Line Song and Vocal Line song and then loads of OT7 songs! Because you're very much into song writing and reading lyrics I totally suggest reading full English translations for their songs, I think you would really appreciate what they're saying to their audience :) My song recs would be: I NEED U Mikrokosmos Zero O'Clock Respect Spring Day Make It Right

I am not really on the Korean culture bandwagon that I’ve seen a ton of BookTubers/readers be on honestly, but I still loved this vlog! You made it so well rounded with TV, movies, music, and the books even including a fun YA pick and I wanted to comment how much I appreciate that! And the recipe looked incredible. So do those pots and pans! 😱 if you want to throw a casual update on how they are holding up in a few months I would not be mad to know 😁. I would love to see more countries like this, because I do find that the content I consume is so American focused and I don’t read very many translated works per year maybe 1-2. Lovely vlog!! 🥰

That's one of my issues with some of my favorite booktubers. I read authors from different countries like Nigeria, India, Korea, Latin America, pretty regularly so I'm so happy Gabby's doing this. Lots of great books out there and easy to put in your reading rotation.
