I mainly use the zone system with my Reveni spot meter. My goal is to exploit as much as possible the latitude of a mostly black and white film in a given scene. This creates the best starting point for my digital postprocessing step.

@@ruudmaas2480 the Reveni Spot meter is brilliant! And the zone system is great with b&w. Thanks for watching 🍻

Thanks Alex. A very good explanation of the types and uses for each of the metering options.

Like you I use a host of different metering methods depending on the camera and the situation. If my camera has a meter I will use that, tempered with my knowledge of the scene. For example, on a snowy winter day I will take a reading from clean, evenly lit snow and then open up 2-3EV from that reading. With my old folders I often use the MyLightMeter Pro app on my iPhone or sunny 16. An epiphany for me was learning how light meters actually work, the whole 18% gray thing. Once I learned that I got a lot better at evaluating what my exposure meter was telling me.

Thanks, that was very informative. I have a very nice Pentax 1 degree digital spot meter set up to do the zone system and for the most part that has served me very well. I do have a Sekonic meter that does incident metering but it can be fooled if you don’t realize or take into account where the light is coming from. My EOS cameras both film and digital have very good meters and metering algorithms and rarely give me a bad reading again when I pay attention to where the light is coming from. One real advantage to mirrorless is the ability of the EVF to show you just what you are getting in the finder

I need a video about how to read a b&w negative, what is a correct or easiest negative to enlarge later ? and how a skin in a portrait should look correctly in the negative.

@@AlexLuyckxPhoto no hurry nor push. And for metering I use mainly incident measure. But as I use vintage brass lenses, one aperture, no shutter, I adapt film development.

When I use my all manual rolleicord III I use either my canon f1n or my digital SLR as a lightmeter, the DSLR has a more advanced lightmeter then the 1970s canon f1n but they both deliver especially when I shoot slide film and have to meter a bit more accurately.

SRT photocells were both inside on the prism to weight exposure to the lower two-thirds of the frame (in landscape orientation). The red dot on the front of the camera is a body screw (with a red cover over the cross-point slot) and is in no way connected to metering.

Actually..it was the OM3 which had the same spot metering system as the OM4 and the OM3 predated the OM4; also the OM2 SP had a spot metering system - but not multipoint. I always get excellent results with the OM3, OM4. In fact I get better results than matrix metering becauseI have a lot more control. Ha in Australia it is not F16 but F22!
