The whole reason Rick wrote the book with Mark is because Rick doesn’t specialize in emotional scenes (not saying he can’t write them). So Rick focused on the humor and the writings of the characters and Mark did more of the emotional stuff.

the thing that confuses me is that there are so many hetero couples in the first few series (percy and annabeth, jason and piper, frank and hazel, silena and beckendorf, leo and calypso, the list goes on and on) and they have absolutely zero problem with it, yet as soon as ONE gay couple gets a book, it's too inappropriate and forcing an agenda. Two boys kissing is apparently the most disgusting thing in the world to some people and that's just sad.

I would say it is more of the fact that u are writing a book abt something that is not natural. Just cuz someone has an urge to do something doesn't mean they should do like people that having a gay relationship is ok. Cuz it's not. It's a sinful desire and is in the same category of lust
@butiexisteveryday72 ай бұрын
@@NativeTexan24 alright honey go to a science class i beg of you. there is literally no difference between heterosexual love and homosexual love, just because the bible POSSIBLY (remember that it was written thousands of years ago and interpretations and translations might not be accurate!) said being gay will send you to hell doesn't mean gay love doesn't exist, people shouldn't have to repress their love for someone just because one verse in the bible that they might not even believe in said they can't. @@NativeTexan24 being gay is NOT the same as wanting to k!ll people, that’s a funny little thing we call false equivalency! Of COURSE murderers exist. But if you would just do a tiny bit of research, you would find like homosexuality IS natural. Wanting to k!ll someone is not. No, I don’t believe there is a God, but I respect people who do. However, let me tell you something. If you’re trying to convince a comment section full of gays that they’re sinners, it won’t work, because they’ve heard this exact thing a billion times. What do you think this videos about? People saying that same thing OVER AND OVER again, but we’ve just learned to not listen, because we have our own beliefs and you have yours. It’s that simple.

I personally think that getting specifically a queer coauthor for this book was a right move, because it touches on a lot more unique queer experiences that a straight man like Rick might not necessarily be the most qualified to comment on, like coming out and gay awakenings, and it has a lot more specific labels than most other books in that universe. I LOVED that book so much and my friend has read it 17 times. These reviews are making me angry. Homophobic people don't get it. Also this book was so great so I don't get the "Its so poorly written" like what?
@katiekuo20104 ай бұрын
listen, I don't like TSaTS, but honestly some of these comments were ridiculous. though I will not deny that I agree with some of them. SPOILERS I think my main problem with the entire book was how Nico did not feel like Nico, and how Will (I apologize to all the Will Solace stans out there) felt like a jerk. I know that Nico is in a relationship, he's learning and changing, but I can't really see how he would go from grumpy, snappy, defensive and with a touch aversion to sappy, 'my boyfriend is the sun and he is awesome and beautiful and-' in from what I recall, a year or less. and Will? don't even get me started on Will. I really liked his character in ToA. he was interesting, loved his dynamic with Nico, and generally a great character. What this book gave me was a guy who kept complaining about the Underworld his entire trip, told his boyfriend Persephone (his stepmother!) was beautiful in front of his face then promptly asked said stepmother how you love someone from the underworld, was sickly throughout the entire trip until he worked together with Nico at the very end to defeat a primordial that even Zeus fears with the power of friendship and love. then there was me thinking: alright, so what happened to Jason? What happened to the 'where's Jason's soul' problem? how is the entire camp empty other than our main characters and activities director? so campers can just leave anytime they want to now? why would hades send his son to Tartarus, he loves his son, why send him on a trauma trip to 'the place where even gods don't venture'? Tartarus feels completely watered down, why? how did Percy and annabeth just... forget, about bob??? nico just thinks of Percy and annabeth as 'percabeth' now, I guess....? and how the absolute frick does nico get to see Bianca and Maria's ghosts when one of them is unreachable and the other reincarnated? then the ultimate thing that pushed me over the edge: you know how disturbing it is for a millennia lady says to a fourteen year old, "these are our children." and the child just going, alright, I hate you, I'm killing you (what a divorce!), and I'm taking the kids then promptly naming them the Cocoa Puffs... hey, that sounds like a band name?" it was just plain weird, and honestly, I can get some parent for thinking this part wasn't suitable to children. nyx felt like a stalker and a creep throughout the whole book really, zeus level. and rick didn't even go that far in writing zeus the way nyx was written. basically, this book had me jumping ship to Jasico and binging an entire 800K fanfic over the span of three days about that very ship on ao3. right, now that I got my rant out of the way (SORRY ABOUT THAT I REALLY AM TO TSATS LOVERS), I will admit there are some good parts of the book, but honestly a lot that made me question my knowledge of Nico's character and whether or not I actually understood or remembered anything from the books I read about phycology and whether or not relationships are toxic. if you liked this book, I'm happy for you, but I hope some of you can understand that there are people who found this book uncharacteristic and similar to some alright-fanfictions. we don't want to be haters, and we aren't trying to be haters. we just want to point out what this book could've improved, and expressed some thought that we hope rick would find helpful. fan feedback for the book released specifically for Solangelo fans, after all.

I think the people in the reviews compared it to jegulus bc they're generally also using a lot of light/dark opposites attract tropes/themes in those fics. In that case Nico would be Regulus and James would be Will.

@v_loves_books4 ай бұрын
@@Unclaimeddemigod also I forgot to mention ppl often compare James to the sun bc he has an extroverted sunny personality and Regulus is named after a star so we often see fanart or fics with them literally being the sun and the star. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that Solangelo and Jegulus are the same but they’d appeal to the same audience

8:14 Imma trauma dump on a fanfic I found once. So, it was on Wattpad bc I didn’t feel like going on Ao3, and what I was looking for was js some random story, maybe not even pjo related, about the gods as mortals. I clicked one that looked decent and started reading it. The Olympians were made mortal teenagers and sent to Goode High school, where apparently every Demigod ever goes to school (Thalia, Nico, Annabeth, Percy, Travis, Katie were the ones there I think). Zeus tries to build this (fatherly) relationship with Thalia, and it fails MISERABLY, not to mention she’s a hunter of Artemis and is for some reason still in school? Also, Thalia has these romantic feelings for Nico. Huh?? Demeter and Hermes are out here desperately trying to keep Travis and Katie from dating. And…Nico…took Artemis….on a date…which was sabotaged…by Apollo and Aphrodite…like…what….And Artemis somehow ended up in this dumpster (thanks Apollo and Aphrodite?) and then she hated Nico, and then we find our Thalia is self harming and I’m JUST SO LOST and when I got to Thalia doing sh I just gave up because that author did Thalia dirty in that fic. Also did Nico and Artemis dirty, their characters did it deserve such treatment

If you like Percy Jackson you should check out Lockwood and Co by Jonathan Stroud. It even got turned into a tv show. It's about these kids who fight ghost in London.

Rick intentionally doesn't write in a timeline, his books pretty much are always set in the time he's writing them. Another obvious example is Chalice of the Gods, there's so much stuff in there that wouldn't have existed back in the timeline. As far as I remember, he wants to appeal to the current middle school generation more than to force an early 2000s and 2010s story. I just really can't remember which interview or video that was.

I went into this book expecting a classic Rick Riordan book starring my favourite characters nick and will, who I was rooting for with all my heart but I just thought it was written with the fact that the characters are gay in mind…the amount of times the word boyfriend is used is way too much like for example if it was Percy and annabeth they wouldnt use it so often? I felt that. Rick riordan was trying to normalize being part of the lgbtq+ community that it inadvertently made it seem different than a straight relationship.As a result of this I didn’t enjoy the book as much as I was hoping to because I was waiting for a solangelo book for a long time and it felt disappointing to me at least

i feel like the fact they say that so much is part of the writing, part if the fact the nico has never found anyone to call his own. it shows how much it has affected him positively. also how can just the use of one word make you dislike a book? i want to know more about how this affects you outside of that.
