I love Octavia Butler! If you choose to continue the trilogy, by book 3 you get used to the tentacles...mostly. Also, if you are ever feeling like things are too much, we will all survive if you don't post anything for a day or two, or a week, or more if you need it. ❤ And last night I called my cat "Sir" thank you for that. 😊

I also really like what Ive read from her, but by the time I got to the third novel honestly the alien viewpoint on consent, sexuality and disability was so disturbing for me It took me 2 months to finish the short last novel.(And it usually takes me a week or 2)

Yes I found something really great last month. I am a big Harry Potter fan and I found a fan fiction called "All the young dudes" about Harry's parents and there friends. Pov Remus Lupin. Who falls in love with Sirius. It made me laugh and cry. Anybody who's into Harry Potter must read😊

I paused the video to buy Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop. I had promotional credits saved up on Amazon and paid $0.88 for the ebook! The way you described it especially, I had to get it. I had other plans for books after the one I'm currently reading, but will read that first!

Fairly new subscriber here - I discovered your channel due to the Mythwind videos and was happy to discover that you are an avid reader just like I am. Thank you so much for your monthly recap on what you read in February!

That was the MOST fun!!!! I love penguins!! I’m on the hunt for those stickers now!! I also think you should do more penguin pages!!!! I was on the phone with my friend when I started your video and she yells at me “Is that Ezeekat ????” 😂😂😂 so. That was awesome!! Also, this week I’m planning on doing my taxes and hanging out with friends, putting a packing list together for my trip in May and working on more junk journal pages!! 😂😂

February was very short....Not enough days and not enough hours in the days, so I am absolutely with you. Haven't read as much as I wanted to either. Anyway, looking forward to your recaps and opinions, because you are now officially my go-to for book recommendations.

OMG So much pressure! I hope you find some good ones in this video! Haha
@TimeLady12810 ай бұрын
@@Ezeekat No pressure at all! I love to read everything as well. Haven't managed to look through all the books you read, yet (I only stumbled upon you literally yesterday and proceeded to binge your stuff), but if I might offer a few recommendations? If you have not read them yet and are interested in books that are not that new anymore, I would love to hear your opinions on The Edge Of Never by J.A.Redmerski, Tigers Quest by Colleen Houck, Een schittered gebrek (don't know the English title) by Arthur Japin, Herr Aller Dinge (don't know the English title) by Andreas Eschbach and Sin Eater by Megan Campisi. I barely hear anyone talk about these and there might even be some among these that you like.

Hi Jaysen! I know you probably wouldn't read this but I had to type this out. I'm so glad you came up on my fyp randomly where you spoke about a quote from this book. Tbh, I have been in a reading slump for more than 5 years. I'm at this crossroad of life where i'm struggling with my career and my anxiety level was through the roof. I truly agreed with all your points of the about Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookshop. This is my first tabbing a book and this book is so relatable. It truly taught me to be kinder to myself. (and i'm only halfway through the book) Again, thank you for being on my fyp on a random day. Never knew i needed that. I hope i will start reading a lot of after this. This book was the perfect entry to start reading again.

1) This is what happens when Jaysen tries to mood read. Absolute chaos 2) I read the Dawn trilogy the same summer that I read Brave New World and Handmaid's Tale, before freshman year of high school. I had very little faith in humanity going into that school year 😅 3) Just put Butcher & Blackbird on hold at the library...and I'm #239 in line 😢 4) I love how many books-in-translation have been coming over in the last few years! And they're getting wide releases too!

As a mom of a middle grade reader, I love the recommendations of books that we could buddy read together. The Lost Library sounds perfect for our next one! To give you a recommendation, have you read The Mossheart’s Promise by Rebecca Mix? So good!
@banannakis672310 ай бұрын
I haven't read Butcher & Blackbirds, but with the look of that cover and the title I think it should be a musical too. My first thought after hearing about this book was Sweeny Todd, Fargo, and Santa Clarita Diet got together and had a baby. From what I have heard, it's a lot of dark humor with lots of macabre. I'm the same as you, spice is fine and all, but I need the story more. Need a good story with spice mingled in.

Leap year - I'll give you an extra day this February. Jaysen - February ended too early this year :D Also, in an odd twist... I just bought my first Kimberly Lemming book two days ago :D And my first (and only) Butler read was also a book club read (Kindred). And that segue was just fine... without SPICE there'd be no middle graders who needed books :D I think you'd like Margaret Rogerson's Vespertine (no spice ;) ).

In talking about middle grade books that can be read by anyone, I highly recommend checking out Gary Schmidt’s books! He writes middle grade books that deal with working through and coming to terms with big emotions like loneliness, finding your place in the world, grief, loving others, and having relationships with people who are different from you. He explores lots of middle school age characters and an older mentor like the old lady down the road, the gym teacher, the principal, etc. The way he writes just hits you in the feels for lack of a better term! I would recommend starting with The Wednesday Wars and then my favorite Okay For Now or Orbiting Jupiter. All his books (especially the later ones) are soooo good!

This is your first book review that has made me want to read all the books that you mentioned. So that's five more added to my list (sarcastic thanks, lol). As I've said everywhere (coz I've tagged you everywhere or replied to you) I read The Night Circus coz of your recommendation & it's honestly the best book (second may to my childhood favourite) ever. February was tough for me as I have a very painful injury atm so I'm constantly in pain or uncomfortable & reading that book took me out of it for a bit so thank you. I'm actually reading Dungeon Academy No Humans Allowed (It's an inspiration from D&D) atm which I think is a YA or child's book but it's so great & completely different so it's a nice change. Look after yourself in March.🥰

@Ezeekat yeah, i had to post on our neighborhood book club fb page. I was like " what did I just read? " the audiobook to me was like listening to the play of the book. In the book when a character would laugh, the narrator would laugh.

I've loved all the videos you posted last month but I hope you find your happy balance this month. We can deal with a few less videos to keep you from burning out. I read 2 books last month, "I'm Glad my Mom is Died" by Janette McCurdy and I reread Scythe by Shusterman. I borrowed Every Heart a Doorway from the library amd started that today. I'm adding The Lost Library, That time I got drunk.. and Welcome to Hyunam-Dong to my TBR. Butcher and Blackbird is already on it. I know I said we will be okay with less videos (and I 100% meant it) but I'd love to see you annotation Welcome to and any other books you choose to annotate. I hope you have a good week!

I started The Book of Koli. And I am not sure how I am feeling about it. Don't know how, but it said people who like A Psalm for the Wild Built would like it... It's not at all what I expected. But I am sticking with it. Also I am reading the Manga Cat+Gamer, talk about cute and fun. Not a ton of depth, but just so cute! Highly recommend. I also read Off to Be The Wizard, and that was just too fun. Can't wait until I get the next book!

I had a similar feeling about the dynamic in Cherry Magic at first, but I've also recently watched the live action show and in one of them, Kurosawa says he's only ever dated women, too, and they typically approached him. So, I really saw this as possibly both of them are demisexual, or a double bi-awakening or some combination thereof (but of course, Adichi's awakening is set into motion because of his goofy superpower 😅)

Firstly, I’m so glad you took time for yourself to do something fun and relaxing just for you. ❤ I see too many people who do social media burn themselves out trying to constantly crank out content. I’m surprised at how many books I read in February since it’s a short month. I can read more when I choose books that aren’t over 700 pages 🫠. I need to do that more often. That is the plan this month for sure.
