Transparency: Hi everyone, this is a re-upload of a video that went up earlier. This version is not sponsored. Thank you to everyone who commented on the last version to make me aware. I explain this in this version but I'll say it here as well. I emailed the sponsor to let them know that i would like to receive a bill for all the items sent to me, that i will not be accepting payment, and that i will not be working with them again in the future. Thanks for being so quick to address the Temu situation. It's funny because i was watching the original upload when it booted me out and said it was no longer available. I was confused until i decided to check out Temu and realized how sketch it was. Upon opening the app, they bombarded me with a new user coupon for $100 off coupon for making a purchase of ten items. They definitely phrased it in a way that made it sound like they were giving you $100 off the 10 items you chose. But once you arrived at the check out screen, it came clear they were only giving you the coupon for use on a future purchase. They also made sure to put timers on the screen to put FOMO on the consumer. Thankfully i was NOT fooled but I'm sure others have fallen for this. I know there are other issues people have with Temu, but I just want to thank you for being so quick to address the situation! I don't think I've seen a KZbinr tackle a mistake within minutes of uploading while listening to fan's concerns. Good on you!
@muffinshutchins7008 Жыл бұрын
@@FionavanDahl I was reading up on Temu more, and apparently the app is plagued with all sorts of "gamification" in tje shopping experience. They randomly have a "spin the wheel" moment where you are rewarded with coupons (this happened to me too), or you might get a random "get x amount of free items when you buy x number of items" promotion. But these bonuses always have a catch or time limit to redeeming them. I reckon Temu definitely has some shady tactics behind how it runs, and others would agree with me.

Man, as someone raised by a pretty comparatively chill Italian/Irish catholic family, to the point where even as a staunch leftist socialist i still practice to this day, fundie and evangelical beliefs are always so. Insane to me. Like, insane to hear. "Jesse what the fuck are you talking about" insane. Like the catholic church has capital-I Issues (including the post-2016 fundie infiltration which i have so many thoughts about lmao) don't get me wrong, but man. Protestant fundie shit is wild.

As a latinamerican raised catholic, catholicism in the US seems extremists for us (we have a great influence of Liberation Theology here, and more specifically of People's Theology in my country). Every time I hear some religious news from the US I'm just wondering what is going on there?
@thurielangel3239 Жыл бұрын
Same lol. I mean, I grew up atheist in Germany, but around a lot of catholics and with some catholic education, my Bavarian grandma is staunchly catholic (and I did sometimes get into discussions with her because of that) but I feel like even the German-old-people version of catholicism is so INCREDIBLY laid back in comparison to the stuff that I see going on with fundamentalists in the US. They’re fucking insane it’s so concerning how many of these people are involved in high level politics.
@Teajay217 күн бұрын
Yeah Catholicism has its own -ish but its compared to American fundies its very different, especially if you have a family that's not very rigid. I do think there's been a resurgence in traditional/fundamentalist catholics especially in the last 10-20 years, you see folks like Amy Coney Barret who are much more like Evangelicals than the catholics I know

I was educated through a fundie homeschool co-op, and in my sophomore year of high school we listened to a Ravi Zacharias sermon as part of the curriculum. It was basically about how anyone could make a (heterosexual) marriage successful no matter who you married or if you loved them. All you had to do to make your (straight) marriage successful is be godly and follow Ravi's advice. That message never sat right with me, even though my peers acted like his teachings were almost as good as the Bible itself. Now that I've grown up and realized I'm a lesbian, I know why I thought that was BS. It's so sad to hear how much suffering people endured because of him, but it's vindicating to know that he was full of shit the whole time
@thurielangel3239 Жыл бұрын
You’re doing such an amazing job talking about these topics and educating people on them. I live in Germany and while I have my own nuanced and critical relationship with and views on Christianity, I haven’t yet experienced anything as insane as the fundamentalist community in the US. I’ve learned a lot about it through your and other peoples videos on here on KZbin and it has dramatically increased my understanding of religion, fundie culture, and even American politics. Not to mention all the people who have been traumatised and deeply affected by it. I feel like as someone with an atheist upbringing who has had almost exclusively positive experiences with the church myself I used to be a little naive about it’s dark underbelly and you’ve contributed to opening my eyes to it and developing a more critical approach. Keep it up!

I went to a Christian school, and my history teacher said what he did, and then she followed this up by saying the impact of his actions was nullified by his spreading the word 🤦

I'm just gonna put this quote here about that. "Most importantly, the inverse of Evil is not Good. It really takes a lot less harm to be Evil than it takes aid to be Good. If you fix twenty people's roofs, you're Jimmy the Helpful Roofer. But if you eat your neighbor's daughter, you're Jimmy the Cannibal - and no additional carpentry assistance will change that."

My mom has always been devastated that I also left the faith and occasionally suggests different people that I could listen to in order to get a different perspective and hopefully come back Ravi was one of them. Never touched his stuff (or any of the others), so I didn't know about any of this until my mom made an offhand comment about Ravi being a liar. I read the wikipedia article to see what she was talking about, but this was much more informative. Very glad that I never gave this dude the time of day!

Was it Temu? I don't understand how people aren't suspicious of a company like Temu. Do you really think a company selling $2 products is treating its workers well? I appreciate that you took accountability, though.

everyone is supposed to really really hate china right now. I mean ... more than usual. because america. If there is more to it, I'd love to know.
@katiesnudden829 Жыл бұрын
@macrograms it's not a hating China thing. It's literally because Temu run sweat shops to be able to make a large profit while treating their employees as badly as possible. China is not the only place that does it but it's one of the most well known
@catt5018 Жыл бұрын
@@macrograms idk what you mean about Americans hating China more than usual right now. I was referring to the fact that companies like Temu, Wish and Shein are notorious for mistreating their workers. And even if you didn't know that, if you're buying things for pennies from some company, it's kind of obvious that they can't be treating their employees well because if they paid a living wage there would be no profits.

Katie: they have been accused of forced labor and use of toxic materials.Temu is just another drop-shipper and relatively small. The allegations against foxconn have been documented in print, and with video.. Temu allegations are less concrete. Alibaba is one of the largest drop-shippers on the planet and their goods are equally a gamble as to quality and labor practice. I again would love to know if there are MORE THAN ALLEGATIONS funded by people who sell bullets.

My family in India are mostly Catholic. My uncle married a woman who became a born-again Christian. I wonder if her conversion was connected to/caused by Ravi's proselytizing efforts in India, especially since fundie stuff is so insular. Regardless I'll never find out for sure because she's unbearable to be around or talk to.

That's exactly why I can't stand evangelicals/fundamentalist Christians. I'm a Christian but not in name only. And it is frustrating and heartbreaking to know that anyone is allowed to get away with this and then die and everyone is still like 'Don't speak ill of the dead'. No. I always speak ill of the dead when they lived their lives like this.
