I signed up for the readwise trial using your link based on your recommendation. I've just recently subscribed to your KZbin channel and have learnt a lot about Obsidian from your videos, so a big thankyou. I appreciate your direct and no nonsense approach to presenting. It's so good to get a low noise, high signal, transmission of knowledge and know-how about Obsidian, and PKM in general.

Thanks Christopher, it's great to hear that, low noise high signal is precisely what I aim for and I'm glad you enjoy it!

Only just started using Readwise so I'm looking at anything any everything I can find to unlock its mysteries. Your video is certainly a comprehensive if rapid sprint through Reader. I'll need to look at it again and pause it every few minutes so I can digest what you're talking about.

You should mention the hotkeys as you use them. Don't assume we know or remember them. Also, the sync'ing of highlights from Readwise to Obsidian doesn't work when I have my vault shared on iCloud. Are you sync'ing via the Obsidian paid sync add-on?

Sergio, how do you process emails with attachments, do you use just regular email client (e.g. gmail) for them or readwise can handle that? I could not make it to work with attachments, for example I would like to have receipts/purchase orders, appointment notifications on my RWreader, but they often include imgs or pdfs...
@FromSergio Жыл бұрын
It works with images and anything embedded, not with attachments at least for now. I only use it for newsletters/RSS feeds/Email subscriptions. Neither of those would ever receive an attachment, I don't think that was its intended use case! :)

Great video! I'm considering Readwise but I'll be trying Omnivore first even if it doesn't have AI since it's free and open source. I hope it would be enough. Have you tried it?
@FromSergio Жыл бұрын
I've heard about it. It's obviously inferior, but it's free! AI isn't even the dealbreaker, rather the lack of seamless integrations with other apps/services and loss of active development (in comparison). Readwise Reader has been flawless for me and makes my life considerably easier, can't recommend it enough!
@duaa454 Жыл бұрын
@FromSergio I did some research about Omnivore and it seems it's not a 2 way sync either, you can import the highlights & notes into Obsidian but you can't sync what you do with the page back to omnivore sadly :(

can reader do two way sync? considering both apps as well. how does a two way sync look in reader and what would be a good use case for it ?

I like the ability to get a transcript of a KZbin video. I would like to find a way to turn KZbin videos into Podcasts.
@carriebartkowiak Жыл бұрын
You can get the transcript straight from KZbin without any third-party app. Click the 3 dots under the video and choose "Show Transcript". KZbin will dump the entire transcript into the equivalent of a chat window, whereupon you can just copy it and paste it into wherever you like.

Thanks for the videos! I just finished the Obsidian series and it got me from zero to being fully functionnal in it :) Now trying Readwise after watching this one, but I was wondering, the sync with obsidian seems nice, but when you have 2 vaults, is there a way to decide what content to sync into a vault and which to sync into a second one?
@FromSergio Жыл бұрын
That's an interesting question. I don't believe so, at least for now!
@tomsop Жыл бұрын
As I watched this video - I liked the content but the parts where you show your screen and click you are going so fast I cannot remember the steps 12:21 if you go back about 10 seconds you clock on three different things in like 1 second. Please slow down. Everything else is great.

The only problem is the pricing. If I sum all the cool apps that I should pay, I would live from paycheck to paycheck. There isn't any free alternative?
@jeffbrownstain Жыл бұрын
Do you know if it can handle Mastodon or Matrix for the feeds? While this is sorta novel, I don't think it's in a place I'd consider paying for it. By the time it is, there will likely be foss alternatives. I've gotta say, I've probably watched somewhere close to 10,000 hours of youtube all these years and I don't think I've actively taken notes on more than a half dozen videos. I'm all down for outsourcing some things to technology: memory and experience is not one of them.
@FromSergio Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure to be honest. Also wrt FOSS alternatives - I'm all down for those but some services I enjoy having a company providing them with a sustainable business model. Especially an app that I use for so many hours a week that needs to work flawlessly across all devices. The last thing I want is to have to tinker with a quasi mission critical service. Also to have a reliable FOSS for what readwise offers is really hard to imagine. Sure you can have something like freshRSS + Wallabag but it's lightyears away from readwise. Just my opinion at least :)
@jeffbrownstain Жыл бұрын
@@FromSergio Not all problems have a foss solution, but the ones that do often have great support, rapid development and ease of access. Foss is what GUARANTEES an app can work across every OS, whether the devs go that far is beside the point. For a closed source software, just better hope that corporate overlord you're paying doesn't decide to alter the terms of service, and that you pay them enough to offer interoperability. Look at the chat services being made like Matrix and its many clients to see how rapid foss really can hit every platform, with great support and on donations and self incentivived progress alone. I need a new newsfeed setup for my daily internet consumption but I don't think it'd be something like this. All in all Reader isn't really what I'm looking for, I'm just always interested in new tech one way or another, and usually have something to say about it. Another good example of FOSS is the stuff being made on Flipper Zero right now; it's insane how fast new stuff gets done on github.

Seriously! Why does everyone think people are made of money? We're already supposed to pay the writers of what we read. Why would I pay Readwise on top of that when I already have a browser?

Cant you talk a little faster? I was actually able to pick out a few words of this now and then. But the clicking on this and that, thats the prize. It was so fast I had no clue what you had clicked on. A great video with a lot of information, unfortunately, I was able to follow only about 1% of that. If you're talking to people who are new to Readwise, wouldnt it make sense to go slow enough so they had some clue what you were doing?
