As a survivor of DV/IPV this breaks my heart to hear. Her seeking out a mental hospital JUST to escape him is so sad. It’s a double edged sword bc he would then be able to use this legally to argue she’s incapable of caring for herself OR is not to be believed. So often you feel like there’s so little the system can do to actually help you. I’ve had a partner begin to go down the route of “you’re mentally crazy and unstable… you need to be prescribed medicine” and I began to believe it! He 100% used it to invalidate and gaslight me, I could only imagine if I had been committed JUST TO ESCAPE HIM .. how he’d use that against me if I ever tried seeking out justice.

I see many influencer couples portraying themselves as these super loving couples who make these super sweet videos of how much they love each other and people in the comments always say "oh they're so cute. They love each other so much." Meanwhile all I'm thinking is "this is way too sickly sweet to actually be genuine. Especially if they're filming it." Cases like this showcase why I feel this way. I don't mean to say all influencer couples are fake. I just get suspicious when they overdo it on the sweetness and it just comes across as unnatural.

I don't think you understand the legal system and how biased it is towards the mother. Singe Father: Would have to be a seriously upstanding citizen with a lot and I mean a LOT of evidence to gain full custody of his kids. Yes, a single father taking time out of his day after work to spend time with his kids is greater than a single mom living alone soaking up welfare and child support and exposing their kids to who knows what sorts of guys on a rotation.
@GoudaGirl13 күн бұрын
@BaronFeydRautha the point of her comment is that women are expected to do that so no praise is given, but men doing the same thing for their own children is seen as awe inspiring and revolutionary. Your comment is like when people say "Black lives matter" and the response is "WELL, ALL lives matter". Of course all lives matter, but there is an obvious disadvantage within society and the court that POC face.

That's the bigotry of low expectations. You expect less from minorities and that's racist.

He probably also made her check herself into the mental hospital so when he ends her, it'll look like it was her and not him. I feel like all of it comes together as his plans to take her life the way he did. Considering he didn't let her go anywhere and she became distant with friends because he made her move away from where she's from for him and made her drop out of college.

Thankyou so much for addressing this issue, I've been noticing it more lately & it surprises me when certain people still don't see this an an issue or risk to women's safety. Just like when gaslighting wasn't known much years ago, people wouldn't take it seriously nd didn't believe it was a real thing. I really appreciate when good people address even the smallest issues as they can escalate very quickly and become big issues, and that's when it can get dangerous for innocent people's lives (especially in terms of toxic relationships) just because a relationship may seem healthy and happy from the outside, doesn't at all mean that behind closed doors, that woman might be going through horrendous abuse. (I'm talking from experience too). 😢 i urge women and people out there to please notice more those tiny signs, even if it may seem innocent, don't feel silly to question something if it seems even slightly off!

How do you know they didn't try to help? My guess would be that they did, but she kept going back or wouldn't leave to begin with, like when he talked her into leaving the mental hospital. She asked to be rescued but was devoted to him, which probably means that no matter what they said or did she just couldn't break away from him. You can't blame her friends and family just because the article didn't specifically talk about what they did to try to help her.

@@ANYHOO0 I imagine, had they actually done anything of value, regardless of her playing the “get away-OMG I love him” game, there should have been record of police interactions and wellness checks, even if she later dismissed them or lied about it.
