@@brantleyrobbins7188 I think the NX has to grow on me. Even TNG Enterprise was a little too much (for me). I grew up on TOS and always thought it was too blocky but it did the job. Adding the curves like you might find in a sailing ship really brought it together. When they did the undocking sequence in TMP (obviously a nod to the fans), I was rivetted.

@FarpointFarmsАй бұрын
Keep updating the car kit, you never know what will be needed. We change out some items for winter, like a blanket and extra jackets
@roberthoffman4713Ай бұрын
I've made some backpacks to keep in my cars over the years and I have added to them over the years. I like the basic stuff they have in their kit. I may add a few things to my kits based on watching this video. I think I would focus on foods that can be eaten cold so I can save water to drink or mix with tubes of drink flavor mixes, I have a few break and shake light sticks in my bags just because I had some on hand, I also pack 25 to 30 foot of paracord, and a cheaper tarp from harbor freight, because they can be used in many ways, from a shelter, to something to cover the ground to keep you dry, while covering with the poncho. Usually have some matches, a ferro rod and some easy to start fire starters, and there's always a flashlight and extra batteries. It can get really cold here so I have the emergency blanket, heavy, gloves, a heavy winter hat, and wool socks, and a wool blanket. I feel like that's enough to keep you warm through much of what you may come up against. I should put mirrors in all of them, I think I only have a mirror in one bag, I have whistles in all bags and compasses in at least 2 bags. I think lifeboat food might be a good addition to the bags since it's very long life and doesn't require heating to eat it. I also carry smaller folding bow saws and or pruning saws to cut up downed wood into stuff sized to burn if you need heat. I guess I just packed stuff that I found handy when I did search and rescue with the civil air patrol and things that got my a$$ out of jams over the years. It's always good to see what others are packing in their bags, because you can learn from or take away stuff that can save your butt down the road. I like when you do videos on this type of stuff. Because it helps me up my game. One food that if I could find it, I would buy to keep on hand and maybe just to have for a fast meal. Years ago nutrisystem had grilled hamburgers that came in a pouch and there was a small try in the pouch. You said the tray with the burger on it out of the pouch and just added hot water and it swelled it up into what looked like a grilled quarter pounder. I think it was freeze dried but I am not 100% sure. I do know that they tasted very good, it was one of my favorites. They no longer offer them and on a few occasions I have searched trying to find them for long term storage or for when I want a quick flame broiled burger, and I can't seem to find any mention of them ever existing.

Those are some great suggestions, having your experience from search and rescue gave you a different perspective than most.

I have a wife and 2 adult kids who work or go to school over 20 miles away regularly. Each vehicle has a 2 person tent so they can put their gear in the tent with them. Each vehicle has a folding ( skateboard with handle bars) I think they are called kick scooters? Using the scooters they can travel a lot faster than just walking.

@@FarpointFarms I live in Baytown, Texas. Having a CB in the vehicles would be too tempting for someone to smash a window and steal it. So I got Cobra HH 50 WXST and pre-tuned each with a little will. This is all kept in the trunk out of sight of would-be thieves. If something happens and they need to use the CB all they have to do is put the little will on the car attach the cable to the CB and you are good to go. If you have to abandon the vehicle just attach the field antenna so you keep the CB with you while getting home/ higher ground...I did have to get a connector to go from little will to the HH CB. This is what I came up with for me and my family, I hope this helps.

A small container of alcohol and also hydrogen peroxide would be good. Xtra bottled water, maybe a couple of ace bandages for sprains. Paracord, as one never knows what will be needed. A couple small plastic tarps for make shift shelter from the elements. Hatchet 🪓 and a good knife 🔪 and a good quality compass, and a lighter. I'll stop there before it gets too heavy. Lol. 73 GOD bless Earnest K5EWM.

Whether it be a natural disaster or man-made. I've had one of these prepared for a few years now. I believe everyone should be so sorry to hear about your States problems. I hope things will get back to normal for y'all real soon. Take care and be safe.

Just a point about those dynamo flashlights. Many of them, the internal batteries are NOT rechargeable. They're just tiny little "button" cells (CR2025 or smaller) . Not really intended to be replaced when flat, but a person with a screwdriver and determination could probably replace the batteries. But yes the dynamo will still give you a, somewhat dimmer light, for as long as your hand muscles work. Didn't hear the price of the backpack but sounds like a reasonable grab-and-go, especially for mundanes that don't normally have a bunch of stuff already. Did I miss it, does it contain at least a pocketknife or a larger type boxcutter ? Adding a couple of decent size water bottles to those mesh side pockets. would be wise. cheers
