Oh my goodness, I'm so glad you posted this video! I had no knowledge of this brand. We have been buying the Walmart brand canned meats that has super high sodium and my husband has high blood pressure. They sell these at Walmart! And they're very reasonably priced. I'll be stocking these up for our family. Thank you!!

The fat and the sodium are not a real problem. I am primarily carnivore. I only cook in animal fat and I have lots of salt. I have had a CTA Scan, Ultrasounds or my neck and heart, nuclear scan, stress test and I have had a CAC Score. I have no arterial blockages and my CAC Score is 0. I am 50. If you get slightly above the cheapest sardines, they're a great option. Really healthy, next to no mercury, good on their own out of the can, or as an ingredient. The olive oil ones are much, much better than h20. I had a pipe break in the house, and having a good supply of canned foods was really helpful while the kitchen was being ripped out. Being prepared for things isn't only helpful for major disasters.
@FarpointFarms2 ай бұрын
Agreed. I do love sardines and try to get the oil based ones, but they have really gone up in price these past 18 months so I don't eat as much as I used to.

Dear Erik, Thanks for this honest review. I'd like to mention that you can also buy it in 14.5 oz. cans great for small families, and it looks like you can buy mixed cans in bundles or cases straight from them. In case you don't know dried minced onions are good to have on the shelf, store for ages and are very easy to use. Garlic powder has no added salt and is usually less expensive over all. Hope you have a good week. Mrs. K.

Hard to find Keystone here in the "Keystone" state of Pennsylvania. Walmart either doesn't carry it, or some locations can barely keep it in stock. I have bought it before and think it is great. Especially for putting it away for preps.

You are far more ambitious than we are. We live near a major river, so flooding (and in Winter blizzards) is always a concern. We always have more than a months worth of food stashed. We have plenty of home canned pickled veggies, salsa, and fruit jam from our gardens, but our supply of canned goods consists of the usual sodium, fat, and carb filled grocery store stuff. We have cases of canned spaghetti and meatballs which we can eat with heating if we need to, along with the usual Dinty Moore stew and chill. And spam, of course. Not healthy, but enough to get us through a couple of months if we need to. In a serious crisis eating healthy isn’t going to be a top priority! Anything that’s a year old we put out in our community’s little pantry box, and it’s always all gone the next day. Evidently there are plenty of people in town who are partial to canned spaghetti! Thanks for your videos. You’ve just been through it, and your experience is helping all of us to be prepared when our turn comes up.

So happy to hear you guys only suffered minor damage. I like having a stock of stuff on hand at all times. My issue is, the canned meats I've tried thus far have been pretty gross. I love Costco and typically anything we buy there is pretty good and of good or high quality. We bought a 6 pak of their canned white meat chicken. I honestly couldn't get past the smell, but I took one for the team anyway. The texture and flavor were off to me. I'm thinking of looking into the freeze dried meal stuff. Stay safe my friend and may God Bless everyone who was affected by Helene and of course all the awesome people working on recovery and clean up.
@FarpointFarms2 ай бұрын
Freeze dried and canned meats do usually have a different texture. It's best to cook them into other meals. Like I did with this stuff. The canned chicken from Walmart is best mixed into taco mix or fajitas.

The keystone ground beef cans I see on Walmart shelf have a “best by’ date of about 5 years out. If the can is stored in a cool, dry place I’ve used cans several years past the printed “best by” date and they were fine. Keystone is the only long term shelf storable ground beef that I’ve ever seen.

I'm using the Keystone canned hamburger at the moment. Be aware, it has a LOT of fat content, and yeah, it's not an inexpensive option, but neither is fresh beef at the moment, either. You might want to remove some of the fat when you dump the meat into a pan if you're not used to that much.
@FarpointFarms2 ай бұрын
Since this meal is meant to be filling and full of calories, I left it in. Plus that fat is flavor!

It isn’t a “lot” of fat in the canned ground beef, what little there is rises to the top of the can after canning. Anyway, it adds flavor and It’s good for you!

Great video Erik. Keystone; I will definitely have to find that stuff. Not available here, that im aware of. Looks like good stuff and probably pretty good quality too. Yes I agree all Americans need to aquire canned foods for times of hard reality and also keep rotated by age of canning. I was a bit on the fence about solar power; but I see now that it is a good way to go. I have a generator, but getting propane bottles refilled can be a hassle (100#); not to mention heavy when full. Going solar makes a lot of sense; at least add solar to the generator and eventually expand the solar power to potential near off grid capabilities as batteries are expensive and have limited life cycles. Thanks Erik , great video and 73 GOD bless Earnest K5EWM 👍.

I'm sorry but canning your own meat Ground beef Chicken Pork is the easiest thing ever Making it sound like it's this "whole complicated involved process" is ridiculous. Of all the things to can meat is probably the easiest. Shove in jars bring up to pressure for about 90 mins turn off stove. So hard to put something on the stove for 75-90 mins. Significantly cheaper than pre canned meat. IMO I just canned ground beef the other day as a matter of fact

Didn't say it was time difficult. I said it was time consuming and the energy costs had to be taken into account. We clearly can a lot. Likely more than you do. The cost break down to can two pounds of ground beef vs. buying this stuff already canned was a no brainer. It was cheaper to buy it than to buy the meet, canning supplies and use my most valuable resource... Time to do it myself. Pay closer attention to what I say before you put words in my mouth please.
