I'm going to have to go with the fault being with the tug driver at the end of the day. The tug had to have a better view of how close that Southwest aircraft was approaching than perhaps the pilot or FO of the Frontier might have had. On the flip side, if the pilot of the Southwest plane had a better vantage point, couldn't he have simply braked if he thought things were getting too tight?

I wonder if they have "accident forgiveness" from All State. "We won't charge you for your first accident!". I wonder if the two pilots got out of the aircraft, exchanged insurance information, snapped a couple of photos with their cell phones and went on about their day? Or, if the pilot at fault got called in the office afterwords. "Hey Bob, we are going to have to take the damages out of your check. Yep, we will deduct $50 from your check every week until its paid for. Shouldn't take more than 150-175 years before you get it paid for.".

I was workin right next door and I'll tell you that frontier was already pushin back before southwest even turned onto taxiway Charlie. I witnessed the whole thing play out. Frontier was in the progress of pushing already and was heading for the center of the taxiway when southwest came hauling ass and collided. The video timing is off as far as pushback from F9. It was a crazy event. Southwest I feel seen F9 and still tried to squeeze by. On the contrary pushback operator from F9 should have been more aware for surroundings. And to top it all off. From the position frontier was at we always push to the right into alley. I dont know why they pushed the opposite way.

@corporate_flyerguy67086 жыл бұрын
It seems like this would have been the ground crews fault. Frontier obviously understood what ground told him, and therefore most likely relayed it to the ground crew. How can the pilots see what aircraft is behind him? He probably assumed Southwest was already clear so he proceeded with the push. Also there should have been wing walkers, for this exact reason. Someone obviously wasn't doing their job or paying attention.

The Frontier pilots do not have rearview mirrors. Whose fault it is depends entirely on whether they informed the ground crew to push AFTER the southwest. If this information was not relayed, it's technically their fault. If it was relayed, it's the ground crews fault as the pilots cannot see behind them very well to locate the Southwest. But even so, I find it incredibly negligent for the tug driver to push an airplane right into another. Surely they saw it? IMO it's their fault either way as the movement of the aircraft of the tug is largely out of the pilots control.
@harryandruschak28436 жыл бұрын
Seems Southwest did what the tower told him to. Frontier seems to be at fault. Of course, the insurance companies and the airlines will have their own opinions.

Silverlight Unicorn I know this. I'm saying the pilot knew he wasn't cleared to push, he could have repeated himself or hit the brakes. Don't push means don't push. And while it was the tug operators fault I still think the pilot might have been able to make an effort to stop the push. And if he did, good on him, if not then maybe next time the tug driver will pay more attention (if he's not already fired).
@wildgurgs36146 жыл бұрын

I know that an SAS A340 lost one of the wing tips when colliding with an AVRO at CPH a few weeks ago. I supposed they must have fixed/sealed the damage somehow, but they've been flying without it for some weeks now. Looks a bit odd to see an assymetric aircraft, since the wing tip still remains on the other side. One'd imagine they've had to adjust a tiny tiny bit with the rudder whilst flying since the aerodynamics now've been different over the different wings.

@Greased Lightning yes true but he is the one who tells them when to pushback. He should've mentioned that pushback should happen after that plane crosses. Should remember your own plane number atleast.

@Greased Lightning mate that's what I said.
