This just might tip me over the edge. Ofcourse when I can afford them. Lol great review. And excellent rebuttal. Peor often want perfection whe. Comparing but rarely do they actually just apply applied the specs to their own use. If your even considering this lens, your not worried about focus distance markings. Your probably owner operator never even looking at the lens markings at all. Good job.

It’s exciting to finally be in an era of affordable, high-quality cine lenses. I’ve been stocking up on the Meike cine primes and DZOFilm cine zooms for mft, and it’s amazing that there were simply no comparable options for anywhere near the price of those lenses as of just a couple years ago. I also appreciated the inclusion of the Indie Mogul clip with the DP talking about how focus breathing can look cinematic. I get annoyed at lens reviewers frequently treating focus breathing as a universally bad trait that should be avoided at all costs. It’s one of the things I’m least concerned about when shopping for a lens, and it’s something you see all the time in classic films. A great example is the opening sequence of Indiana Jones. Some crazy focus breathing in those shots!

According to my research, the reason they can be made parfocal is because the original Sigma lens is capable, they just don't worry about the back focus on photo lenses. Cinematics just sets the back focus correctly on a collimator with shims. They will also send you shims with your lens in case its not a Canon camera and a little off (as some are).

Thankfully mine is fine but I have a buddy and he sent it back for them to fix. Overall I prefer these over the sigma cine lenses. I know these lenses aren't the same thing, they are like a cine hybrid zoom but I have the Sony 18-110 and 28-135. They have de-clicked aperture and claim to be par focal (which they almost are). They have focus gears. 95mm front filter mount. But these lenses aren't true cine in that they can do autofocus and have IS. The 28-135 even turning the servo function off still is somewhat connected to it. The 18-110 when servo is off it's like a cine lens. I love that they give me the long focal range I want for a zoom and are incredible clarity. They are around $3k each or so. I was in the same boat as you guys when wanting cine lenses and since I have Sony I thought this was my best option for mid range price. I like to do lots of gimbal work with long lenses without switching at all and this fit the bill for me.
@EpicLightMedia4 жыл бұрын
We sold our Sony 28-135 last year when we sold all our Sony gear. But yes, those Sony lenses are fantastic with great features! Wish they could open up past f4, but so many of the Sony cams have great lowlight that f4 still works great in most cases.

@@EpicLightMedia I've contemplated selling all my Sony gear but that's all I have now as I shifted there with these lenses and cameras for the past 5 years and don't want to do the switch of investment. So....just waiting around for Sony to up their game. Though what I have really works for what my clients need. My clients aren't asking beyond what I'm giving them so thinking I'll wait this one more year for Sony and then make a switch if a Sony fs5/7 something upgrade or a7siii doesn't come out. Yes f4 worked perfectly fine for me. Hey also great content as well.

@TheSpecterRanger3 жыл бұрын
The lens breathing is introduced in these lenses because it is necessary to be parfocal. Correcting the shifting focus-plane when zooming means that an element group is also being “zoomed” when you focus. The Sigma cine versions are NOT parfocal, which is why they don’t have the same focus breathing.

Would love to know your thoughts (the new pictors just came out). Looking at buying them or these sigmas you listed. The price difference does not matter between these two. The one thing that seems beneficial with these, is it looks like they still have auto controls? I would not care for auto focus but auto exposure can sometimes be nice to have depending on whats happening. Considering I often run without an Aperture or zoom motor and just a manual focus wheel, I can certainly see the benefits if it does.

Have these lenses got some kind of adjustable internal shim? Have you shined and checked the Ursa mount? Even my canon CN-E lenses dont line up with the focus marks on my URSA G2 perfectly- I haven't bothered shimming the mount. So maybe its a mount issue? Accuracy it more important at the far end of focus, thats why it might be more off at the infinity end. I am keen on one of the cinematic's canon 70-200 t3 housings. This is one of my favourite lenses, its sharp and blurs beautifully (even nicer IMO than some of the expensive cine lenses I've shot next to), but having it in a proper housing would be amazing.

These cine modified lenses might be a great step up alternative to de-clicking and adding focus/aperture gears to still lenses, but I think it is misleading to call these ”rehoused”, as the original lens barrel seem to be retained and encased within the new, albeit geared barrel. But perhaps that is how ”proper” rehousing lens service providers like EE, P+S Technik, Van Diemen, TLS, Cinescope and Cineovision does it too. But I doubt that.
