Hey Doc, combat medic here, a while blood transfer is extremely rare, but does happen in combat zones. There are situations where combat causiltues get stuck in aid stations without the capabilities to store blood (usually waiting on medavacs) and you literally have to put a call out for soldiers with the right blood type and you type and cross everyone then begin the transfer. Its pretty scary, but some trauma patients will die anyways without a blood transfusion so you don't really have a choice.

The only bit that worries me is that there's been quite a few instances across multiple sectors where ex-pat BIPOC staff are forced to work under bad conditions, are underpaid, get harassed etc, and I'm dubious whether these personnel would feel empowered to speak up, report this to regulatory bodies/Police, etc if this happens? (Just based on both their home country experience of interaction with govt bodies, and on the way their families back home often depend heavily on their remaining in their jobs?) Really hope the nurses union may have some initiatives in place to help make sure immigrated medical staff are aware of their rights & obligations under the NZ system, and that they have a supportive person they can go to for help & advice if needed...

I love nurses. When my son had gastroenteritis at three, and was limp in my arms and almost unconscious, the ambulance guy (not disparaging all emergency workers, just this one), said "We're not taking him to hospital, this isn't urgent." Got to the hospital and I told the charge nurse, and she looked at him like a mum and said" Get him upstairs now!" Loved her.

I just remembered that when I was in a teaching hospital I had to repeat my symptoms over and over so many times to so many "flocks of docs ". I know that they wanted to make sure that I wasn't leaving anything out, still, it was very annoying. I really liked Nurse Bianca. I felt that she gave a good balance to the video, and enjoyed hearing her point of view.

I've just been binging Dr Mike's reaction videos all day and really waiting for one where he's reacting to Dr Romantic, but if you'd like a show that shows the relationship between nurses and doctors I cannot stress how much of that you'll see in Dr Romantic like, the head nurse (and her team actually) is such a force of nature in the ER. You'll really only get to see it in Ep 2 onwards but it is genuinely one of my fave if not my fave medical shows out there.

I'm an radiographer, and along with the critiques in this video, I also have a problem with there being no representation of the allied heath professionals (x-ray, lab, respiratory therapy etc) in this and other medical dramas. Doctors and nurses do not generally do blood draws, and no nurses are qualified to operate imaging equipment in Canada.
@fridanilsen99832 жыл бұрын
I’m a radiography student and this is something that really bothers me in these types of shows, it’s always some random doctor taking the x-rays when in reality radiographers exist for a reason and you need qualified education to even be allowed to use x-ray

@6:37 When he said, "It is done on the battlefields", he is correct. I was listed as a donor on the ship that I was on. @@lexisross9457 well I understand some comments tend to be like that. That's why I specifically pointed out this comment. Infact when I heard about this party I was waiting for his response. Until then I never knew he had a second channel. I heard he posted an apology video and I came to this channel to find nothing then I simply searched for this particular issue to find that specific video. Now there are a few problems here. He posted this video on a channel with much less subscribers. Like significantly less. This channel has over six million subscribers while that channel barely even had 100 k. That is 60x difference. And now his apology. Let me be honest it felt like he was trying to justify his action. He did say he shouldn't have done it at the end but the focus should have been that how us his viewers should be extremely careful because the spread can take place even if we take all the precautions, best thing to do is social distancing mask and sanitizers and he may also talk about any quarantine time he is taking before going back to the hospital. Now he is a doctor and a celebrity. This does come with certain responsibility. Even now what ivanna and even I want is a proper genuine apology. One where he is actually taking responsibility and not throwing his friends under the bus.

@@lexisross9457 see that's my point. He doesn't have to but there's nothing wrong in asking to do so politely. Ivanna only asked him to do so because she look upto him. I'm a pharmacist not at a level one trauma, and we would have the blood, or be able to get it from our local blood bank or other hospitals if need be. This scene was just to make a character look heroic for the show. By the time they got his blood and did all the testing to make sure they could use his blood, they could have gotten pints from so many other sources. This doesn't even take into account the non-blood options they would have at their disposal.
