If every doctor broke things down like this... I would truly feel more open with my doctor. The way Doctor Mike tells us the viewer what medically the symptoms your having can be and he offers his insight at to why he speculates what is wrong, rather than saying you have strep, just feels more personal. Rather than not explaining and being treated as a lesser I had strep 4 times a month for three months straight... And strep meds did nothing for me
@mmtruooao83775 жыл бұрын
Tbh that's not necessarily something he does every day as a doctor, a lot of these videos are thoroughly researched. I feel like there may be extra explanation he needs to put in here since he can't answer individual questions. It's also much more general, where these symptoms would normally create a whole picture of someone's health which is really complex and needs to be considered when prescribing medications, etc, it's much simpler to focus on one issue as a concept.
@rowdyrefs5 жыл бұрын
As a doctor this is the worst idea ever. During consultations we have to rule out the serious illnesses and us telling you you might have cancer or something really bad as we speculate will just worry you out too much
@rachaelkile80345 жыл бұрын
Just wanted to add that a normal course of antibiotics is 14 days and if you finish the course as directed, then you will test negative for rapid strep. If you are saying you had strep 4 times a month for 3 months straight, that would mean you are returning to the doctor every week complaining of a sore throat, testing positive for strep, given antibiotics, then not taking the antibiotics for the full 2 weeks, then returning the next week complaining of a sore throat again. This just does not make sense.

me: so yesterday i stubbed my toe dr mike: stubbing your toe can lead to either a breakage OR an infection if not properly taken care of. one of the first things we learn in med school is that we need our toes for proper balance and stubbing a toe can cause a limp that will cause other problems later down the line. it is important that if you stub your toe you go IMMEDIATELY to the emergency room where they can take x days and scans and give you the proper tools to treat you.
I don’t think anyone who takes an excessive amount of NyQuil cares about their ability to complete tasks.

Right?? I'd say that's right the vast majority of the time. I know one person who takes a lot of nyquil out of sheer desperation after many years of really extreme insomnia that almost nothing puts a dent is. He definitely cares about his ability to function cause he owns and operates a successful business. Trust me when I say the side effects of the nyquil are an improvement over the full effects of the crippling insomnia. He's aware of the drawbacks and still tries other options when suggested. When I was 13yrs old, I was hospitalized for a temp over 104. Not good. When my doctor was asking questions, he asked if I’ve been having diarrhea. Now, I’ve always been extremely shy, so I said no way of course not. Then he trapped me. He asked me when the last time I pooped was. A question I could not escape. Not without, however, my super handy super selective memory. I suddenly had no idea when the last time I used the bathroom was. Then he broke me down. “Can’t remember? Don’t ya keep a poop diary?” I was not amused but couldn’t help but laugh. He asked again, and I told him with my head down in a whisper, the truth. It was a very effective tactic to use on a blushing 13yr old.

0:36 Was not my best day because of my hip acting up on me. My physically condition worries me but I can't see my physician until another month. I was pretty depressed about it because I love to dance and I want dance to be my career. When I heard you said that, and I also finished watching you video, I felt so much better. My attitude changed and I felt like I can be happy again! Joy for my recovery and your great videos making me forget my worries! Thank you Dr.Mike!

Wow - your channel came up as recommended to me, and I have enjoyed looking at some of your videos. You are terrific! I was blessed to have a young man as my Dr. for about 3 years and he was great...patient, thoughtful and handsome beyond belief. Sadly, he recently moved away, but before he moved, I had a plaque made for him that said "World's Best Doctor." I know Dr. jobs are never easy and i wanted him to know he was so appreciated. More power to you (don't know if you will read this).

As a nurse, there is no way that doctor would be taking the temperature or examining him. The only reasoning she is in there and not a pair of blue or maroon scrubs is because there is a camera.
@traitordoge59935 жыл бұрын
Really? Where I am GP's generally do the temperature/basic examinations, if there's any blood work/blood pressure to be measured and taking injections and everything else they'll request a nurse.

My doctors needed your training, because not a single one of them can do an ear exam on me without commenting on how thin and scarred my ear drum is. Yeah bro, multiple ear infections that ended in ear drum ruptures will do that to you. It's in my medical history.

My GYN while giving me my post c section exam and while doing my inner pelvic exam he “wow, mmm yes” and I said what ? And he said “ you have a beautiful reproductive system and if I didn’t know you I would never know you just had a baby “ I said ooooook thanks lol I just took it as a compliment as if I was a beautiful specimen for reproductive systems. I also once had a ultrasound tech tell me I had a perfect reproductive system and that in her 11 years of career I’m 1 of 5 women she met that has a text book reproductive system where everything sits when it should 🤣 so it’s more common than you think

I definitely agree with you when you say being in a worse mental state can prolong your physical sickness. I am a freshman in college and currently commuting to school and this week has taken such a toll on me. I have been at school or campus for 14 hours! 14 until I get home and then the other days at work. That doesn’t even include hw. Last week I got a cold, no big deal and I have been trying to sleep as much as possible but as a student sometimes it’s just not possible, I have responsibilities. I definitely feel like my cold could have been gone by now if I wasn’t so physically and emotional stressed this week and had gotten more sleep.

Doctor Mike, could you do a video in which you react to Austin McConnell’s “What to do if your parachute fails”? It’s a short but informative video, and I thought it would be cool if, after discussing the video, you talked a little about the ways the body responds to a fall, ranging from in a fall in which you scrape your knee, to a fall from 12,000 feet. I think it’d be super interesting to learn about how the body starts to try to heal itself.

That is funny. Actors, I've heard, don't often watch the finished product work of their movies. If new information had come out since said video, I bet Doctor Mike would be good and have fun showing how science and study has advanced learning, otherwise, he might be critiquing himself overmuch for no reason, at least inwardly.

After a prolonged childhood of tonsillitis, strep throat, sinusitis, asthma and having my adenoids try to claw their way out of my skull, plus voice and woodwind studies [all giving an extreme amount of muscular contraction/relaxation control in the air/vocal passage], the worst thing I ever heard from a doctor's tongue-depressing throat exam was "Mygawd! It's like a cave in there!"

3:30 100% true. I have tried 3 different GPs at my local clinic for who I was most comfortable with talking about awkward situations. the last one was perfect because we both had a laugh about what I was there to talk about. The first one was ok, there were some things I was still reluctant to talk about even after years of seeing her, the second was just... no. way too serious and was just there to do her job. Not my type. and then the third one made conversation, understood what I was talking about and laughed with me about stuff. It made me feel a lot more relaxed especially with my social anxiety.
