This one is for all those nurses out there that requested I check out this show. I had no idea what I was getting myself into as Nurse Jackie is a very fresh character. I do think that when a show is raw like that it makes for a great medical drama review
I want to watch more of this show so please hit me with some episodes that you really like from the first/second season as I want to watch it in some sort of reasonable order.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this episode of Real Doctor Watches Nurse Jackie / Real Doctor Reacts to Nurse Jackie. If you want me to continue making this doctor reaction video please give it a like and leave me a comment on which tv drama or show you'd like for me to review next. Love you all!

My step-mom was a mean Nurse. Always in a contentious situation with her job, always speaking really aggressively. After she passed away I found several letters to her from patients thanking her for fighting the system for their benefit. She really went above and beyond for her patients, often by getting into it with her hospital.

DavidAWA I can just tell your step-mom was a great woman by the things you wrote. And that she helped everyone and did her best which is something also doctors and nurses (and more) should always do, try their best. Even if that situation seems near impossible to fix. And I’m sorry she died. I can tell she was an amazing person.

The surgeon, who was called by the head nurse, and told that the leg was swelling in the cast, that the patient was in pain, please come and open the case. The doctor refused to come. I agree with the mean nurse thing. I got my nurse aide certificate so I could work in old folks homes, I ended up becoming a nanny instead but while I was on the program there was a older woman who had to renew her certificate. She was on the stern side, sassy, straight forward, etc. During the final exam I almost failed, and I was the last person in the lab doing the exam. it was my last try on the lab exam, and I began to tear up and she came in, took my hand, and walked me around outside. she just talked about the weather, holidays coming up, her kids. and then I went back in and passed. it was so touching and wonderful for her to do that I will never forget it.

I was doing an internship at a hospital and looked through the window and noticed a patient in stirrups in the other part of the hospital that was across from my room with a window. I told my preceptor (basically an intern's mentor/teacher on the job), so she called the department across the building and told them to close the blinds/curtains. You'd think with all of the HIPAA and confidentiality rules, they'd remember to do something as simple as close the freakin blinds when a woman's vagina is exposed.

I always wanted to be a doc until I got sick. I’ve spent so much time since I was a teenager in the hospital, and I realized how amazing nurses are. If I hadn’t gotten too sick to graduate I would’ve been a nurse. I’m 34 now and I’m pretty much in GI failure, I have heart issues, need blood and iron on a reg basis, depend on my GJ tube, central line, and other stuff. In my toughest moments it has always been a nurse there with me, fighting for me when some random doc who didn’t know me or my case refused to listen. I have had doctors almost kill me because they didn’t want to listen to the specialist from another hospital, a specialist that knew the weird stuff my body does, and knew what needed to be done. I’ve had some great docs, it’s the ones who don’t try to shove me into a little vid to fit in their txt book because I’m a zebra patient, and I wear my stripes with pride. My body goes left when a “normal” reaction would be to go right, and I’ve had docs that blamed me for that, and it wasn’t my fault. Like I said, I e had fantastic docs, and those were the docs that respected the nurses, listened to them when they had concerns over their patients, and didn’t have a huge ego. I was just in the hospital for sepsis with my Hickman in august, and the night doc messed with all my meds, leaving me crying in pain, my neck and chest were swollen and horribly painful from the infection. My nurse and her charge nurse fought for me all night, and he yelled at them, refused to come to see me, and did nothing. Those ladies went above and beyond to try and help me get as much comfort as possible, and they stayed until the new doc came on, making sure I was given medicine, and finally resting comfortably before they left. I’ve not had many docs do that for me, except for when I was on adolescent med, and my doc took care of me for three years. When my tube fed the bed, and my build a bear teddy bear that was always with me, he took it home and washed it. Thank you to all the amazing nurses out there, and the docs who see their patients as individuals, and go above and beyond to help.

It helps to focus on people's actions. I've lived many parts of the US (and the world in general actually) and think of a relevant example. The Midwestern US has a reputation for its residents being kind. I once was trying to drag a heavy desk into my apartment (I ordered the desk online and didn't realize it would be so heavy). Several people walked by while I was struggling and verbally expressed sympathy. On the other hand, when I was l trying to manage a stupidly heavy box in NYC, a local man stopped to inform me that I was profoundly stupid for attempting to move this by myself, help me move it while questioning my intelligence the entire time, and then proceed upon his way after refusing compensation. I personally prefer practical help with insults over platitudes along.

That scene is funny for a few reasons... mostly because any or legendary story from nurses, coders, or even doctors, usually involve what have you taken out of someone's ass. Not my favorite subject, unless the guy is hot lol.... anyway, I am pretty sure Nurse Jackie is a chronic pain sufferer. If she was prescribed pain meds from a pain clinic, it is likely she would be limited to non-face to face care such as clinical reviews, prior auth, documentation review, etc. Pain Contracts have been updated for the most part to say that they cannot take care of or be responsible for another person while on their opioid medication.

9:35 The error she made was loading the IV line backward through the machine, so the machine was trying to pump blood out instead of fluid in. The beeping was due to a high-pressure error. I love how open you are. I love that you are approachable and also realistic, you don’t pretend to be super human because you are a doctor. Because of doctors like you, I was lead to look into how I could help people. I am now almost done with my bachelors in forensic psychology! My favorite thing a doctor ever told me was “well your piercing is infected, you need to take it out” and when I told her “I’m sorry but I can’t do that, the infection is inside the still healing piercing and if I take out the bar it will close around the infection and form an abscess” Her response to me was “you need your belly button, you don’t need a piercing”... This was the first time I realized doctors are humans and make mistakes. It oddly made me feel more comfortable with doctors later on in life. Lol I also learned that after birth you don’t medically need a belly button. And she was upset that I was correct as a teenager. I was told to keep it in until the infection healed 😬 I also learned from a nurse how to best clean piercings and I have never had an issue since!!!

Sidhant Unnithan My Dad was the head of the ER in our hospital in my hometown and there was a guy (they didn’t tell me this story for years, lol) who had put a frozen fish up his butt and it had thawed. Which allowed the bones to splay, which then made it... um. Difficult to remove, shall we say. Just the end of the tail was sticking out. Ugh. People are.... weird. There are some other stories but I think, to me, that was the weirdest. Not weird but notable was an ex playboy bunny who came in, and Dad assigned someone else to her case. He met my mom when he was 16 and they got married when he was 21. They’re still mistaken for newlyweds by people, just how they are towards each other. He knew there’d be a lot of jokes around the hospital, a lot of unwanted attention about it, and he didn’t want any part in it. It made the other doctor’s day though.

I went to the ER three days in a row because my hand was ice cold and my fingers were turning a BAD grey color. First Dr, barely looked away from his phone, then said I had a sprained wrist and ordered a wrist brace. I asked why that would make my hand so cold and turn colors and he said as he walked out the door, ‘I’m giving you a brace, what more do you want?’ Day 2, went back. Dr 2 said ‘It’s just Raynauds Syndrome.’ My 19 yr old was on her phone and said ‘That doesn’t fit the symptoms.’ He just said I’m the Dr. I went to school for this. I’m discharging you.’ Day 3, hand is worse. Got the same Dr as the day before. He ordered a Doppler. I’ve had these in the past and know what it should look like and I could see something not right. He showed me still pics of it and said everything was fine. He walked out of the room and I heard the nurse yell at him that I was going to wind up losing my arm. They wound up transferring me to a different hospital at 2am. At 3 am I was in surgery having a bypass done in my upper arm. There ARE some BAD Doctors out there.

Something almost like that (but not really) happened to me a few months ago. Throughout 2018, I would have some sporadic upper-mid abdominal pain (like stomach pain). However in mid/late September they started to get more frequent. On October 1st (Monday) I woke up in the middle of the night, with the a horrible abdominal pain. After I drank some pain meds and it didn’t work, I told my mother to take me to the hospital. At the hospital everything went fine, Dr. 1 ordered some exams to be taken within a week, gave me some intravenous pain meds, and fluids. For the rest of the week I was completely fine. Cut to October 8 (Tuesday) 11pm, the same thing happened. Except this time the pain was in my upper-mid abdominal area, and in my upper-mid back. At 4 am I jumped out of my mother’s bed and got dressed to go back to the hospital. However, this time, it was a different doctor (Dr. 2) that just told me I had Gastritis. He never ordered any exams, and just decided on a diagnosis? Come on! He put me on fluids and intravenous pain meds. Thankfully I had an ab ultrasound scheduled for later that morning. Once I got the results of my ultrasound, I was able to find Dr. 1 on the clinic next door, and he gave me a diagnosis. You ready? I had a Gallbladder full of stones, one of the stones got stuck on its way out, and that caused a Pancreatitis. Gastritis my ass!!!
@carol9909
@carol9909 5 жыл бұрын
Once he diagnosed me, he told me to go back to the hospital (the clinic and the hospital were across from each other), because he was going to admit me for my treatments. Right then and there I started fluids nonstop, pain meds every 8 hours, antibiotics every 12 hours, and stomach medication along with the antibiotics because he had to completely remove my diet and water intake for the infection to go down as much as possible before my surgeries. That was on Tuesday. On Wenesday, they had a specialist in endoscopy come in to remove the stone that was stuck. Because everything went well with that procedure, on Thursday, Dr. 1 removed my gallbladder, and on Saturday noon I got home. Dr. 1 wasn’t even worried about my gallbladder, he was more worried about the infection that was caused because of the stone that got out. Later he told me that both of my procedures were very complicated, and that each of them took 3 times the amount of time it would need to be done. He said that if the stone had gotten out, but not gotten stuck, it would have reached my Pancreas, and he’d have to put me on ICU; with that, he said if that were the case, he wouldn’t know when I’d be able to leave the hospital. Later on I found out that both Dr. 1, and the Endoscopy specialist are considered to be the 2 best doctors for this area of medicine in Brazil. When Dr. 1 was about to release me he said, “I never really believed in God, but I know that you and your mother do, be very thankful to him because this was most definitely the hardest surgery I had to do. I really do believe that I had help in some way.” I will never forget this man’s words. This man was a blessing in my life!

We have all had these stories. :( My mom was dizzy. Went to ear doctor. "Well, your feet, your eyes, blah, blah, blah, Maybe it crystals.." I yelled, "Doc, Monday she was fine. Tuesday, she was falling all over the place! She lived with all those issues non-dizzy for many years. Something is wrong, FIND IT AND FIX IT!" I know, he ordered the MRI just to appease me. Turns out, she had ischemic attack of the middle ear. He said, "oh" and changed her therapy orders to a different type. 3 sessions, she was fine again. Like the joke says..."What do you call the person that graduated last in medical school? Doctor. "

When I heard lots of kids die because of bleeding in their brain, I feel lucky. When I was 6years old in 2010 in tokyo, I got my first bike, problem is, I didn't wear a helmet. 15mins later, I crashed into a wall. The shock was so strong that I broke my skull and I had a cerebral contusion. Fortunately for me a doctor was walking by and brought me to the nearest hospital(that was at 2mins on foot from where I had my accident). I got there in time and some great doctors saved my life. From that day my goal is to become a doctor that can save lots of lives! Like you doctor mike💪 hope you read this comment:)

@Brainfryde
@Brainfryde 5 жыл бұрын
Not likely to be ER. The formulary is different in ER pills. The gel cap prevents "bad taste," and only delays the release of the meds for a few minutes. It also allows for FASTER absorption of the meds, as those granuals provide more surface area for stomach acid to work on them. When used with food, all of this collectively reduces the impact the pills have on sensitive stomachs. What makes an ER is additives that prevent the pills from dissolving for hours. Tablets work best due to the smallest surface area, or area exposed to stomach acid.

Was about to say the same thing, too. Found it funny that Dr Mike was trying to google pills to see what she was snorting. In the opening credits it even shows the granules falling out of the two separate halves of the prized-open capsule

“He put a firework in his butt” 💀💀💀 I’m an MA and when he said that it reminded me when a patient came in with a small pickle jar in his rectum, it was a longgg story...
@Eli_lyn.
@Eli_lyn. 5 жыл бұрын
Okay so this male patient came in, immediately I new something was very very wrong, he could barely walk, taking small steps and he looked in pain. So I grabbed a wheelchair so he could sit on it, but he told me “I can’t sit, I just can’t” I insisted he did but he kept repeating “I literally can’t”. So I took him back and took his vitals & started questioning him as to why he was here, he didn’t want to tell me but I kept on asking, then he just screamed out “I have a pickle jar up my ass and I need help” I was SHOOOOOK, I honestly was out of words when he told me that, so then I asked him how that happened. He told me he was making a sandwich naked and he had the pickle jar upside down on the counter, he jumped on the counter and the pickle jar went in (it was the mini pickle jars). So yeah that’s what happened, also when we went to see back there, we were greeted with the del dixi little girl logo staring right back at us. It was pretty funny lol.

I used to work in a trauma center and foreign objects in the rectum was a very common occurrence. my favorite was someone who got the handle of a toilet brush stuck and had to get his mom to drive him to the ED. From what i was told it looked like he had a fluffy tail as he was wheeled in from the parking lot.
