Hey joel, i need to know, do you take anything for maleria? Or is there no risk in the main cities? Because i cant see how we would be expected to take a daily tablet for maleria daily if you plan on been in medellin long term

Nope not required in Medellin! Only in some areas of Colombia, closer to the Amazon.

Hello AK, I hope all is well with you. As you know, I have an apartment in Colombia ( Mike Faca ). Some input on this subject and a question. As an american, I stayed invisible through the entire process. My wife is Colombian and she handled everything without me there. My question is when I wired the money from an american bank to an account in a Colombian bank, Note most major banks have agreements with each other, the money got flagged due to the amount. The two banks worked it out quickly . Have you seen this type of problem before?

I've never seen that problem, we've helped a few of our Masterclass students complete the transfer process and we didn't have any issues.

It’s normal to get flagged. Colombia has one of the world’s most strict anti-money laundering rules for obvious reasons and banks simply have to comply. A normal step after being flagged is to be asked to show proof of the origins of the money. It’s an inconvenience that will prohibit Colombia to become a friendly country for banking but it is what it is and it won’t change soon. As a solution Colombians open bank accounts in banking friendly countries such as the USA and Panama (although Panama isn’t anymore what if used to be before the Panama Papers). And it’s not only Colombia. Colombia is listed as a (very) high risk country by banks in most jurisdictions. Again, it is what it is and of course for obvious reasons.

When you say open a brokerage account .. do you mean bank account ? Can you just wire the money directly into the country to the sellers bank account? I have lived here for 10 years and have decided to buy an apartment instead of renting .. the 1 bedroom for me was cost effective renting but i want 3 or 4 bedroom and its better to buy .. i live in the coffee region .. do you handle transactions there .. ?

The political thing is still up in the air because we don't know what will happen when Petro's term is up and if he will commit to the peaceful transfer of power. I suspect that he will because he does not have the support of the military to make such a drastic move.
