I had an animal in the attic on a shoot. I assume it was a raccoon, but didn’t want to wait around to find out. Another the interior of the house had collapsed into the basement. Basement had flooded due to a failed sump-pump. Couldn’t tell from the exterior. Wild.

Hey man, I know I'm asking you this on an unrelated video but I saw you comment on a youtube short about an E39 540I and checked out your channel to see a lot of videos about your ownership of them. I wanted to ask you what's it like to own an e39 540i? I should make it clear It will probably be my first car at 17-18 years old (depends when I find a good one for sale) and want it purely just for leisure and cruising about and sliding it about in empty parking lots every once in a while (you know how it is). Considering my budget I would probably have to find a much cheaper one which would mean more mechanic work. I understand these are 20 year old cars now so maintenance before anything else is what matters the most to me. Do you have any advice, tips, pros and cons about ownership of one? What to do and not do with the car? What's it like to own, drive, use day to day? Just general use (leisure, going to college, carrying around heavy equipment like instruction tools and weekend blasts with the windows down playing music in the country side in summer is my thing. You don't have to answer all this but I would greatly appreciate it if you did. Thank you and have a good day!

You can try to find one with all the maintenance done and pay upwards of 10k but it'd be a better situation. But if you're buying one 5k or under you're more than likely going to be a bad spot. I highly suggest have around 5-7k available after buying to take care of maintenance. Full suspension refresh, and cooling refresh (plastics on them are awful and most owners pass on that maintenance). If getting a 540i you're definitely going to have to do the timing guides, water pump, OSV and Vanos while it's all about and you'd be around 6k just for that specific job. Overall I genuinely LOVE the E39 platform as it's a great daily. The problem with most cars and especially BMW's is the owners always neglect the maintenance and leave the new owner to handle it, while lying about what has been done. I would suggest getting a 6 cylinder over the V8 just for better reliability long term.
