Switched to the patch from having the arm implant (Nexplanon). I REALLY wanted to love the implant but my experience with it.. the cons outweighed the pros. Starting the patch I IMMEDIATELY stopped spotting (something I had dealt with on the daily with nexplanon), I lost even more weight (I was 135LBS starting nexplanon, after 2 years of being on it i weighed 125LBS when I got it removed, now I’m 120LBS being on the patch), also I knew my libio was low while on Nexplanon but I never realized it was THATTT low. I feel like a whole new person lol.... also my breast size grew a whole cup starting the patch. Haven’t dealt with any of the common side effects I read about like nausea, headaches and cramps. Aside from tender breasts, I’d say give it a go. Everyone is different, could be right for you :)

Girly I know you didn't ask for my unsolicited advice but your input reminded me of my past self. I apologize if I accidently assume anything incorrectly. For context, I lost my virginity a month before I turned 21 (I am now 24) and since I was already on the pill, I felt bold enough to lose my virginity to a random guy from Tinder. Yikes. I would love to encourage you to wait for a loving person and not engage in hookup culture if you can. If I could warn myself back when I was your age I would. I took birth control for a hormone issue originally but then I got reckless. Life happens and I learned lessons along the way. Wishing you all the best ❤ I guess I was frustrated at waiting so long and getting made fun of by my peers that I had developed an "all or nothing" mentality that was super destructive from many points of view. If I could tell myself back then that it's okay to wait I would. It may seem like common sense but back then I was bored cuz it was during the initial lockdown. Not my proudest moment. Just my random 2 cents I know you didn't ask for. Good luck on your birth control journey 😊

Or if on the 4th week I don’t get my period and I start on the 1st week on the new set of patches what do I do? Do I just keep going with my rotation or do I change it up?
@TheLadysGuide4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brenda, great question! You are right, your period may be a bit irregular when switching to another method. With the patch, it should be changed once weekly for 3 weeks followed by 1 week with it off. After 7 days of it being off, a new patch is applied. So even if you experience a period while the patch is on, leave the patch on. And if you do not get a period during the patch free week, this is OK. Over time your periods will regulate, usually by the third month.

Hi Melissa! Everyone reacts a bit differently to birth control so while some it can help their concerns, others feel it made their symptoms worse. I will say if you are considering the patch specifically to help with your acne there are many other lifestyle factors I’d recommend first. What we put into our body on a daily basis have major impacts on our skin and it’s possible to clear your skin without relying on medication. Check on my Instagram where I share information regarding acne. Also as far as weight gain, this is another side effect that effects some and not others. What typically happens is hormonal birth control has the potential to increase hunger which can cause weight gain if not eating healthy foods.

@TheLadysGuide4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alison, it is common to experience acne when starting most birth control methods. However diet plays a role as well-particularly foods high in sugar and dairy can worsen acne. It is also common to experience itchiness where the patch is applied so rotating spots helps prevent this. If you experience itching around your entire body this should be addressed ASAP with your provider to make sure this isn't an allergic reaction.

Hi there, This video was really helpful and I’m probably going to start this form of birth control after I speak with my doctor. Though I am very timid when it comes to forms of birth control due to personal experience with the pill as well as all the horror stories. I specifically worry about my depression being effected heavily. I chose to stop all medications due to the overwhelming process, including my depression and anxiety medications. I have been naturally handling my disorders for a few years now. So my question is, how much can the hormones truly effect things such as depression and sex drive? Second question, if in some case an emergency contraceptive had to be taken (such as Plan B) how would that work? Or what are your suggestions? I am very keen on routine and don’t have many worries about missing any or forgetting to change my patch. But I have not been able to find specific answers for those questions. (Also, I do understand these are also questions I’ll be asking my doctor as well!) Thank you in advance!
@TheLadysGuide3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mikayla, I’m glad you found it helpful! I completely understand your concerns, they are all super real and valid. Hormones can impact things such as depression and sex drive in some people and not in others. Depending on your personal circumstances, lifestyle, stress level, gut health- these all also play a role in symptoms of depression and anxiety. As far as sex drive, the longer you use a hormonal birth control method the more likely it is to lower sex drive. For using emergency contraception, do you mean if you were using the patch and then also wanted to use emergency contraception?
@mikmaaak3 жыл бұрын
The Lady's Guide thank you for answering that! To the second part, yes. I am just extra cautious but know that most likely would never have to happen. I’m just unable to find an answer.

@@mikmaaak yea so if you took emergency contraception while on the patch it would just be an extra precaution that could possibly cause some irregular bleeding as a side effect. I just started using the patch on Thursday. I had my menstrual period Wednesday before. But today I got bleeding. I am very confused if I should continue leaving the patch on until my 4th week? Considering I haven’t even had the patch for a fill week yet.
@TheLadysGuide4 жыл бұрын
Hi Cesia, a very common side effect that occurs when starting any birth control method is irregular bleeding. This can look like random spotting or getting a period at a time not normally expected. Usually this resolves within 3 months of using the new method correctly, so in this case changing the patch weekly x 3wks followed by no patch on the 4th week. It is always best to check in on your specific situation with your provider as well. :)

Hello! I’m starting the patch for the first time. My provider said to start it right after my period ends on a Sunday or Monday! But others on the comments say to start at the beginning of your period? So I’m confused now - what are your thoughts?
@slumberpartybard63553 жыл бұрын
well usually when you take a contraceptive like this it completely stops your period! from my experience at least, that’s why you wear the patch for 3 weeks then the 4th you let your period pass then start the next patch

Does it matter what day you place it? I haven’t been on birth control in years so I’m a bit confused. I haven’t had my period yet so should I wait until after I have my period to start the patch?
@TheLadysGuide3 жыл бұрын
Hi Shay, the patch can be started at anytime as long as there is reasonable certainty that you are not pregnant. That is why starting it during your period is common however it is not necessary. If there has not been any unprotected intercourse for > 2 weeks and a pregnancy test is negative, the patch can be started and it is not necessary to wait until your next period.

@TheLadysGuide4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, yes the patch can be used continuously which may cause your period to not come but this is not a guarantee-some women will still experience bleeding. It is always best to check with your provider that this is safe for you specifically and that you do not have any increased risks factors to use it continuously.

Is the patch similar to the depo? I cannot take pills because it caused me to have “morning sickness” for the first two days taking it. It always made me nauseous I hated it. I started depo & LOVED it, but my doctors told me not to take it anymore since I’m about to be 24yrs. I’ve been off of depo for about 2 years now but I cramp bad, throw up, the whole 9 yards on my menstrual cycle. I just love the depo cleared up everything for me no side effects at all, what would be similar to this?

@thuyphung90183 жыл бұрын
Hey what would happen if you switch to a new patch a day earlier or later? And if you switch a day late, would you replace your next patch the same day as your first week? I applied the patch on Monday for my first week. I forgot to switch the patch for my second week on Monday and switched it on Tuesday instead. I’m concerned if this will affect anything? And should I switch to a new patch on Tuesday for my third week now or go back to Monday (my first week day)? I’m worried if switching a day earlier will also affect anything.

I just started birth control for the first time ever. I’ve been on the patch for about a month and a half now, I change it every week and The times it has came off I put a new one on right away and continued to change it on the day I regularly do. Lately I had bleeding that looked like spotting it started light and got heavier......it’s not my patch free week yet. I feel so anxious about it being implantation bleeding or something?? I just want to know if I should be worried ??
@TheLadysGuide4 жыл бұрын
Hi Bella, it is common for there to be unscheduled bleeding during the first 3 months of using birth control. Also if you see the patch come off, you can apply the same patch back on, there is no need to apply a new patch. Only if you see that the patch is not on and you aren't sure when it fell off, only then do you need to apply a brand new patch. If there is any chance of pregnancy it is always best to take a pregnancy test as well to rule that out.

I had an IUD 4 times and my body started rejecting my last one. So I chose the patch. Have you heard of anyone getting pregnant who may be 250 or more in weight on the patch?
@TheLadysGuide4 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yes, studies have shown that women who use the patch and weigh over 198 pounds are at increased risks for an unintended pregnancy. It is important to use a back up method if using the patch when over 198. This information can also be found within the manufacture instructions of the patch.

I left my birth control patches in the mailbox for three days I never realized it shipped and I don’t check the mailbox often. Will my birth control patch be ineffective or damaged from the heat? (They were sealed in a bag)
@slumberpartybard63553 жыл бұрын
Hormone-based birth contains estrogen and/or progestin, and temperatures higher than 86 F (30 C) can cause changes in the medication's molecular structure. If this happens, birth control can lose its effectiveness, increasing your pregnancy risk.

Hi Marilyn, when the patch isn't used correctly-changing it every 7 days for 3 weeks followed by 1 week being patch free there is a slightly increased chance of pregnancy. Whenever in doubt of pregnancy it is best to take a pregnancy test two weeks later to be sure pregnancy didn't occur.

Hi Emilee! Yes it is true that these are risk factors for the patch. I recommend you watch my video about birth control pills, specifically starting at 6 min and 44secs that discusses the risks. The combined hormonal pill, patch and ring all have the same risk factors. Typically if you are overall a healthy person without other factors that would increase your risk then it is generally ok to use the patch. Here is the link to my video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3XRZWWKbrWdotE After you do your research always make sure to review with a provider to make sure you are safe to use this method!
