This program is from 2008. I was curious to see how she’s doing so I checked for updates. Sadly, she gained all of her weight back (and then some) when she came back home. An article from 2012 stated that she had to be cut out from her mother’s house and spent over 200 days in the hospital to be treated for a skin infection after going up to 700 pounds (50 stone). It says she lost 1/3 of her weight after 2 surgeries (no details, but I assume it was for gastric bypass surgery), which means she was at 465 pounds at age 22. The last update I found was from Feb. 2016, stating that she was going to move in to a specially designed council house (gov’t housing). I’m beginning to think that these programs don’t really help these people in the long run. The trouble is that they do great when they’re in an environment that totally supports them, but no one is there to guide them when they go back home… So very sad!!!

I'm sure she was given psychological support when she got home. But unfortunately probably her mother wasn't abd been back home would have triggered the child. Her mother was her dependant not the other way around & its so selfish. She had only 1 year to herself & to be a normal teenager so not programmes fault but her toxic home environment.

She has a mental disorder, a severe eatind disorder you speak as if she has been lazy and not taken responsibility. This teen has never had proper help with her traumas in life (father dying when she was 5 and now taking care of the mum’s health). After all she is a child, but is made to be the adult- reversed parent/child roles is too much for a child’s brain to handle. Had it not been obesity it could have been anorexia or drugs or an addiction to drugs etc. She lost her childhood! Did you notice they focus on her size and not her mental health?! The idea that obese people should magically fix their mentsl disorder when it’s just like any other life threatening eating disorder, the difference is its form.
@teijaflink22262 жыл бұрын
Yeah she seemed quite mature actually, a good and responsible girl (she was caring for her sick mother too). Very tragic that she didn't get the right support when she was 5 and her dad passed away so she wouldn't had to turn to food instead. I have noticed that so many who are morbidly obese since childhood have been through a trauma and turn to food to cope because they don't have a supporting environment (that a child manages to get this obese shows too that they for whatever reason don't have supportive adults around them).

@adorable38172 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't go that far. I have a food Additive addiction. When I eat sugar, it makes me feel hungry. All i can think about is food, all I want to do is eat....and I'm never full. Even if I have a stomach ache from overeating, I'll stuff more food in my body. All from white, refined sugar. Without it....there's calm 🌈🙏 So, a pudding to me, is like an alcoholic beversge to someone in alcoholics anonymous. Kind of like a chain smoker can't just have 1 cigarette per day. I can't have ANY refined sugar. So, in my case, it IS the food. Refined sugar is 8 times more Additive than cocain. We're taught moderation... but in the case of refined sugar 100% avoidance is the only solution. Flour same thing for me. And humans don't NEED flour and refined sugar to survive. Instead of chocolate an Apple. Instead of bread, a baked potato. Peace and love ✌️💜

30:31 - enabling her abuser by defending her actions. Knowing the things which caused your eating disorder and being able to point to them in another person's behaviour, does not mean you love that person any less, but it does mean you have gained the insight you need. Her mother needs to fully recognise this. I love this program, but ideally the family needs to be having therapy too. One of her biggest dangers after returning home will be dealing with people who are seeking to police her but who have no knowledge of what she needs (who are not therapeutically trained) and secondly, dealing with people who may also need interventions and who know it, but who will not seek to get any. Jealousy will rear its head, big time. I do hope she manages to stay true to her course. Sending her best wishes as I write this.

Georgia was quite overweight even when her father was still alive. No doubt the things that happened affected her as well of course. Her mother is also grossly overweight and that is not purely down to osteoarthritis! Her mother is clueless. I saw the Nesquick-a-sweetened powdered milkshake mix.I don't know if her mother is stupid or if she doesn't understand or doesn't care but there is something very wrong there. How did her mother cope while her carer was away for a year???

Its the social inharetance all over again. When she are going to take Care of a sick mom?? A position she is not att all educated for, she lack at School. And eat as a coping mecanism. Even if she wanted to (there could be mental pressure) it's totally crazy to me that a 12 year old can become a career of their sick parent (and specially when they have already lost one parent), shouldnt a kid focus on school and taking care of their parents, it must be extremely stressful mentally and psysically and they will be so much more behind others their age. I'm surprised to hear that it works like this in UK as they have free health care and stuff. Both mother and daughter should have got help from a career. She has no chance, sadly wouldn't surprise me if her life isn't going well.
@lucyw.75972 жыл бұрын
@@teijaflink2226 It doesnt usually work like that in the uk. She was still going to school, if very sporadically. Her mother would have been entitled to certain amount of care, whether she chose to take it or not seems debateable. Same as in the US there are thousands of kids out there who are caring for an ill relative, but they are still going to school. Its a shame she didnt get into another residential program back here rather than moving back in with her mother.

I’m 58 and British when I was young you never really saw obese people especially children, when Mac Donald, KFC, Burger King, Pizza Hut and all the other fast food restaurants came to the uk the weight problems started then I had my children young and of course they wanted what their friends were eating so I made a healthy version at home I ended up feeding all their friends at lunchtime because it was healthier and tasted better, my family have never suffered with obesity problems. They never really had much sugar or chocolate they preferred fruit

This program did not use sustainable methods that are successfully continued at home. The dietary advice is dodgy, too and is only sustained in controlled environments. Georgia continued to become Britain's fattest woman. Last time I heard of her, she was on oxygen, in hospital. They had to cut her out of her own home to save her life because she didn't fit through doors anymore.

Wirklich?
@ummamalia2 жыл бұрын
@uteschneider33492 жыл бұрын

Any program can only take the regime, advice, dietary requiements and encouragement so far... a member of staff can,t go home with any of them. At the end of the day, the individual has to want it so badly and stick to the regime. Georgia obviously couldn,t cope with the triggers and stresses of her every day life and turned back to food. So sorry to hear of her setbacks
