Caring or enabling?
@jamesfoo8999

enabling. Creating lazy and dependant adults who when eventually move in with a partner, they either don't help out, clean their house etc, or they are so needy they end up being left, then back home. These parents are literally NOT caring for their children and it's sad to see. I know it comes from love but it's not loving to actively disable your children by making them depend on you so you can satisfy the need to keep looking after them. Let them go be adults.

Phil literally has a whole floor to himself, everyone has their own space. Im not surprised he wants to stay home. I wouldnt mind if my children wanted to stay home! However theyll either be studying something productive at university or working full time.

With Christie’s mindset, she will probably be single for a very long time. Making your mother do all the cooking and cleaning and laundry, I feel so bad for her former partner, he was probably like wow so much for sharing the responsibilities.

But, she wasn't making her mum do all the cooking and cleaning though, she was washing pots at 26:32. U don't personally know her and u definitely don't know what goes on behind closed doors, u don't have any rights to judge a person especially when u don't know them. Her name is Kirsty not Christi so that just goes to show that u make stuff up without knowing what the truth is.

It was quite apparent during the video that she just didn’t feel like she had to do it and had no problem saying so, don’t you feel that there’s a difference between being unwilling to help out and just not knowing how to help, but eager to help if someone would show you how to do what’s being asked of you.

@@markwake3943 I can totally see your point if you were dealing with someone who is like a senior in high school and still used to their parents doing everything for them, but she’s an accomplished woman she’s been out in the world she knows what goes on. You saw the same video I did, she had the attitude that she exist therefore somebody needs to do the things that she doesn’t want to do, like I said, she’s not a child going off to college for the first time ever, quite frankly she was just acting like a brat and it’s beneath her to do household chores, merely because she exists they should be done for her.

@@markwake3943 do you or don’t you see a difference between being willing to help out, Or totally having the mindset that you shouldn’t have to do anything to help out in a domestic capacity. You saw the video, she wanted no part of cooking or cleaning or doing her laundry, she was speaking as if the servants should do it and she didn’t have time to waste on such activities that are beneath her.

This is true. In 3rd world countries it is not about the fact that adult children wants to move out and have independence and make a life for themselves. It is just the fact that their economy does not allow for it. It was the same in Finland just 30 years ago. I grew up where, ppl yes did build their own homes. But they would move in their parents with them, lets say on the upper floor in the attic. It was a common thing back then because the economy did not allow for it. And the cost to having them put into nursing or retirement homes was just too much, since at that time it was privatized. Since it became social and the municipalities too it over with support from the government it has changed drastically from those horrible years. Back before that here in Scandinavia we had in villages and communities something called "The Poor house". Where old people and people without any means of income would be placed. And they had a place to stay and would get fed, and had access to running water. But nothing else. And this was in rural Finland, with only forests and woods and some barns here and there, and no government benefits etc... So you can imagine how it smelled and looked like.

I guess it helps to be from middle of nowhere nothing town where you no choice but to leave home. I had to go to boarding school at age 12. Then straight to university at 18 and then I bought my own apartment at age 24. I was so broke after all the legal fees and the deposit that I slept on the cold floor of my new apartment after scrubbing it clean for hours because it had not been lived in for a while. It's a home now. My home.

I live at home with my parents. I am 27 years old. I have autism. My little brothers also live at home, too. My little brother Seth, 22 years old, also has autism. Daddy had a stroke almost 11 years ago. Mommy needs lots of help taking care of him, so we always have to help out. Whenever Mommy's too tired to do anything, either me or the boys have to help him out. When Daddy wants water, we get him water. When he wants something to eat, we make him food. When he has to go to the bathroom, we help him. Daddy needs help with everything since he can't do things on his own anymore. Mommy's oldest brother, my Uncle Thanome, lives at home with Grandpa. Grandpa is old and needs lots of care. Sometimes, Grandpa goes to Laos so he could spend time with his young wife and school-age son. Uncle Thanome is in his late 50's. He calls himself old, which he is none of. Grandpa is old. Uncle Thanome is not.

Lucky you. I finished school, did bachelor and postgraduate degrees, and worked also. However there was never enough to rent because of the massive in rease in rental prices and cost of living. I wanted to leave but there was never enough money. I DO pay rent, (unlike many of them) and buy my own groceries too. Every family and every individual is different and in a different situation. As long as parents don't mind and the child's okay with it and working towards something worthwhile, then nobody should judge them. Sure it may becoming more common in the Western world, maybe because more people are realising the benefits to everyone. Some if the people in this documentary have very good reasons for staying at home. Don't assume that just because you didn't do it, means it's somehow wrong. And remember the old thing about in third world 🌎 the family is a village, with even grand-and-great grandparents living together. It's the same with raising children.

You don't even get an accurate perspective on your own relationship with your parents until you've moved out fully, no matter how materially 'supportive' they are. I agree that sometimes this 'support' can be a way that parents enable dependency in their adult children

I'm 34. My parents are awesome. I built my own house on a trailer and have it parked on their land. I pay rent. I pay all my own bills and work full time. I enjoy spending time with my parents and want to enjoy our time together while they are still alive (in their late 60s). Their house will be mine when they die anyway so why leave? I've lived on my own before and it was nothing but struggle and loneliness, now with all the money I save, I have gone on vacations around the world. I have no interest in having kids or getting married any time soon so why would I move out, waste money on rent, and spend all my time alone? It's one thing if living at home is toxic but if not, try to see the good aspects. People who say you NEED to move out obviously don't have good relationships with their parents or have bought into capitalist bs of "everyone needs to buy a house".

It's called independence. I had a great relationship with them when they were alive. My mom being blind I helped her out as much as possible and helped my dad . but I didn't live on their land or house. I pulled my own weight.
@jamesfoo8999
@jamesfoo8999 9 ай бұрын
"so why leave" to have your own independence. Your own house and home, with your own fridge and food, and pay your own bills and build up financial credit, and your own bathroom. Your own TV and sofas and one day a partner and your own children. Your privacy and independence are very important. If your parents did the same thing, would you still be there now if they stayed with their parents? So the house has you, your parents and their parents? What when you want a partner and children of your own? So many great things come from becoming an adult and moving out, and you'll look back and realise that you didn't realise at the time that you were restricting yourself. And as for spending time with them, it's natural to "visit", with your own partner or kids.

It’s no wonder Christie’s single. with her mindset, her partner was probably thinking to himself, oh my god this so-called partnership is looking like it’s going to be a one-way street and with her attitude of I won’t do any cooking or cleaning or laundry, he was probably sick of doing it all himself. Remember Christie you should have no problem with caring 50% of the responsibilities, but it sounds like with your mindset, you get what you want and if anyone tells you know, you probably throw a fit like a three-year-old.
