Very true, people just use that excuse to justify bad housing, jumping spiders need a lot of space. I was thinking about putting Bob in an even bigger terrarium but the problem with that one was that the little openings at the door were a bit bigger. I was scared she would be able to escape

I love this. Also, the terrarium looks great! I've been wanting to adopt a jumping spider, but I'm also kind of scared of spiders? :') They're so cute from afar, but then, I always find myself worried that they've found a way into my hair... Gotta work on that.
@Diaphat

Just try to find a wild one. If you see something erratically moving around on a sunlit wall, it's probably a jumping spider. Be gentle and they will explore your hands if given the chance. I've played with them since I was a kid, and have never been bit by them. If they are scared, they're much more likely to flee rather than attack. Even they know that they stand no fighting chance compared to you. Honestly, they're just little goofballs, unless you are something around their size, then they're terrorifying!
@monster3339
@monster3339 3 ай бұрын
honestly, the best way to become less fearful of them is just familiarity! my dad (76 in march) was a lifelong arachnophobe until maybe this past year, and i think his overcoming his fear was purely just from controlled exposure. it started with him reluctantly agreeing to look at the occasionally picture of my pet spider crickets (not spiders obviously, but theyve got that Look that triggers peoples arachnophobia), then he agreed to look at a frightened crab spider i caught that was nervously cuddled up in the wedge between my fingers (and at the nice pictures i took of her upon releasing her on a plant outside), and now hes said he no longer has that automatic terror response he used to have when seeing spiders/similar looking animals, even in person! basically, whenever you get a chance to just observe a spider in person, try and do it! youll likely find youre much less nervous when youre in a situation where the spider is just calmly going about its business, and you have the control to simply walk away when youve had enough.

I once caught a black widow in a jar in my shower, while I was taking a shower. Yes I was screaming bring me a jar at the top of my lungs while trying not to get bitten by a black widow that was dangling it's self between me and the shower door. I put her in a large gallon sized pickle jar and used window screen and a rubber band as a lid. I fed her crickets, moths, grass hoppers and basically and insect I could find. I had her for the better part of two years. So spiders beware, if you want to take a shower with me, be prepared to be kept as a pet and pampered for the rest of your life. I have at the moment a cute jumping spider who lives at the corner of my kitchen window. I don't bother it and it entertains me while I cook and wash dishes. I was never scared of spiders, insects, mice , snakes unlike my sister that would eeek out every time she saw an anole lizard. So naturally we would caught them and chase her through the house with them, then make them bit our earlobes and ware them as ear rings for a while. What can I say it freaked my sister out therefore I really liked them.

Around 30 years ago, I had left a small critter keeper tank in the back of the cabinet in my bathroom. One day, I saw a baby wolf spider inside. So, I threw a couple of small crickets in when I was feeding my lizards. A few days later, I fed my lizards and checked to see if the spider was still there. It was! I continued to feed it and watch it grow for the next couple years. It seemed to never leave the little critter tank even though the clear plastic lid wasn't there. It got big. Like almost the size of my hand. I came home one day and my mother said she cleaned out under the sink and found a one of my critter tanks in there with the biggest spider she'd ever seen. She's afraid of spiders. My heart sank. "I threw it into a bag as fast as I could, before it got out." "No! I've been growing him for the last couple of years!" The poor little guy ended up at the landfill. I hope he got out of the bag and made a new life there. I now have over 20 tarantulas.

What fun! We have had numerous various pet spiders, left in the wild--usually in the bathroom or on the kitchen counter! We were always very careful and they seemed to do well. One time, we had a pet sitter stop by to care for our cats, and I pointed out the current pet spider on the countertop and asked her to be careful. Her response was, with a big smile, "Of course." There are many spider lovers around! I worked for a reptile wholesaler for a while, and he had many tarantulas. One of the hardest things I have ever done was to let one crawl up my arm--not because I don't love tarantulas; they are special. But those little feet felt like they could hold on, even if I panicked and tried to wipe her off. I didn't, of course, but it was hard. I still love spiders! Thanks again for the fun!
