Great video I also have a heatstorm. In the app you can set a set to tap automation so you can click it and set it to 70 or 45. I've been happy with mine in a 20x20 shop that has been spray foamed. But you're right electric heat is great as long as you have good insulation.

Hey Sam, thanks for the 2 months update. Very well done and informative. I recently installed a 7500 watt heater in my 4 car garage/workshop. It works pretty good so far. A bit small but it's what I could afford. I use a Mr. Heater to help which I turn off when painting or staining. Don't want open flames with chemicals in the air. Haven't got my 1st bill yet so I don't know what it's going to cost me. I don't believe you mentioned cost comparisons exactly. Of course it varies by state and unfortunately I'm in the most expensive one, CA. I like the convenience of using an app to control the heater but the one thing that really bugs me is you can't just get the app you have to register then they don't stop sending junk. I want to control it like Bluetooth but I haven't seen any that work that way. I like your usage of Waze outlets. I have one for my swamp cooler and since I'm already in with them I'm going to get another one for my 2 fans that blow up into the ceiling. Thanks for the idea.

awesome video, thanks again but mostly good for people in warmer and temperate climates but if you have a really frozen winter think Canada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, or my home state Montana. you have a really hard time heating my shop to comfortable in a decent amount of time with this unit.. our shop is very well insulated its a bit larger then yours its 24x24 in Montana we get around -10f to -30f average for a good few months in winter.. if my tools and shop get that cold it damages them... so I use this unit to keep it just above freezing but if I want to actually work in the shop then I. have to fire up a wood burner or wear a snowsuit

Hi Sam, so I just purchased this unit, I love the profile and it fits into my shop perfectly. I am running into a very common issue with it in where it will short cycle. Reading other reviews and seeing other videos this is a common issue with these units. Do you see this problem with yours? If you have how did you end up solving it? It took about an hour to raise my 12 x 20ft shop 10degF with an outdoor temperature of 45 degF. For a 6000watt unit in an insulated garage that it would do better then this.
@Samcraftcom

What do you mean by short cycling? I've since moved shops, but took this one with me and have it installed in my new workshop now. :)
@danieldewitte8289
@danieldewitte8289 Жыл бұрын
@Samcraft the unit would run for about a minute to 90 secs then it hits about 2 degrees over the set temp and starts its cool down cycle. Then when the temp drops to the set temp and lower it starts its warm up cycle. It's about a 45sec to 1 min warm up and about a 30sec cool down cycle.
@Samcraftcom
@Samcraftcom Жыл бұрын
@@danieldewitte8289 Ahh, yes mine will do that. I think it's because the temp sensor is internal where it's hottest and not external. I've always wanted to crack open the case to find and relocate the sensor to the outside of the unit. Until then, I'll just set the temp 10 degrees higher than what I want. :)

@Samcraftcom
@Samcraftcom 2 жыл бұрын
The overall size of the building is 16x24. I have an 8x8 space carved out of it for an office that this heater doesn't have to heat up. As for actual power increases on bills, that would be depending on how often you run this and what your cost is per Kw from your power utility. My numbers wouldn't benefit you unless all variables lined up. I've never added it up on my end. It's so much more convenient than propane or wood heat for me to worry on cost for the amount I use it.

This workshop (I have since moved into a new workshop I built and showed on KZbin) is a 16x16 with ceilings from 8-12 ft tall. This heater had zero problems heating the space as hot as I wanted and keeping it there. I took it down and brought it to my new place, but haven't installed it yet. My new workshop is 100% solar powered and I'll have to run some hardwires to it for this heater to get installed again.

Where I'm at (NC) it only gets down into the teens at lowest. In that range (with my insulated shop), it will keep it as warm as I want with the thermostat. It will also heat up my shop in about 15 mins from 40 (where I usually leave it overnight to keep glues and finishes from freezing) to 70. This workshop is 16x24 with ceilings from 8-12 feet tall.

@Samcraftcom
@Samcraftcom 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know the square footage recommendations for the heater. It's rated at 20,000 BTU output on high. It would depend on the space's insulation and if you plan to run it all the time at a set temp vs. on-demand. It does fine in my workshop building which is 16x24 with 8-12 foot ceilings. But the workshop is also insulated.

@Samcraftcom
@Samcraftcom 3 жыл бұрын
I'd say it added about $1-2 per day depending on how cold it is and what temps I want in the shop, etc. Kind of hard to calculate really. But it's well worth it for the lack of having to maintain or service the system anymore (tank swaps, firewood chopping, etc).

@markm3.16
@markm3.16 10 ай бұрын
It's a standard dryer type cord that you can pickup at your home improvement store but you need to be sure you get one that will handle the Amps load of the heater and if you don't already have the 240v outlet, you'll need one of those also These are usually hardwired. Mine is 7500 watts so I had to run 8 AWG. You can't get that in an appliance cord and make sure you have a large enough breaker.
