Real Life - Send Me An Angel (1983)

Debut single from Real Life. Released in May 1983, it had become a hit in their home town of Melbourne where it had reached No.3 on the charts.
Molly got them onto Countdown which saw them not only reach No.6 in Sydney and nationally in Australia but they also charted around the world. In 1984 they reached No.29 on the US Billboard charts and had the Los Angeles Angels adopt it as their theme song and they hit No.1 in Germany in July 1984. This is Real Life's signature song and there have been around 17 remixes released by the band in subsequent years.

This is so very 80's. This songs brings me back to the 80's. I'm old enough to remember when this was new. Once this song is heard it sticks in your head for Life. It never gets old. Thank you.

Funny how the 1989 version charted slightly higher than the original in the US. The original with the 'baseball pop' hook is a must. Criminal this missed cracking the Top 25 both times! Way more memorable than any 'pop' tune today!

@@Jgeneraledger23 i think he means the clap sound at 1:05. It sounds like the characteristic crack of a baseball bat making contact. A similar sound was used on the baseball-themed "Centerfield" by John Fogerty.

I remember going on my hols to Spain and this was played everywhere. I found a record shop and got the 12" along with a few other records. I loved it when you could go away and everything was different. Different music, food, smells and the way they live, they didn't speak English and we couldn't speak Spanish but it was fun learning your way around somewhere totally different. I loved it back then but now it's not the same at all. The weather is the only difference.

A fellow Melbournian I ran (apra licensed) mobile disco's in the late 70's to mid 80's and liked this so much I made my own 9 minute version which went well on the dance floor ;) First time seeing it on tube here.
