I live in Wyoming where deep snow is a commonplace in the late fall to early spring, I could have a 2 wheel drive in the city because the road crews remove the snow and put gravel on the roads for traction. I used to live in Flagstaff, Arizona where it snows an average 90 inches a year and I never had a four wheel drive vehicle. I have had several 4X4’s here in Wyoming including the 2024 TRD Off Road that I currently own because I like to get out of town and go ice fishing, travel roads between cities to see my kids and just get out to see the snow covered scenery.

I get consistent 20mpg with my 2 wheel drive 3rd gen, highest i've seen is 24 mpg. I have bigger tires, lifted, and a steel bumper. It's a offroad premium with is weird that it's 2 wheel drive I guess though, but I have a rear locker.

I bought a 2024 Tacoma Offroad 4x4. I live in Rhode Island so need it for our winters here with snow. Never use it in the summer . I just engage it every once in awhile in the summer to make sure everything is working properly as they recommend. But come winter time, so glad i have it. Makes a big difference here where i live.

It definitely depends on where you live 👍

If you pull a boat a 4x4 is almost a necessity. Not for towing the boat but for getting the boat up an oily, slick boat ramp. I've had a boat most of my adult life and I can't count the number of times I've had to use 4wd to get up a slick ramp or the number of times I helped others get there's out. I live in central N.C. so not a lot of bad winter weather but if it is bad I don't joy ride I stay home. But it is a good feeling to know I could go if I needed to. I agree with Rob. If you don't need it use the money to deck it out.

Makes perfect sense brother! Mine is a 4x4 but I also live in an area that gets all 4 seasons and can have bad winters but for someone like you in Texas.. whats the point unless you are an OFF roader … which you have said you are not.

Buy what you like for what you need! It is a personal choice and what is in your budget. I live in the north and need 4 wheel drive sometimes. If I lived down south I would get a two wheel drive. Sometimes I think I don't need 4 wheel anymore, cause if we get snow its light or its heavy once or twice a year. Where I live they seem to sell only 4 wheel mostly.

You could have saved more money buying the S or SR, too. With the manual transmission. Over buying the TRD Sport 4X2. Especially if you're going to mod it up anyway, just saying....

You're right, you could save some money. 👍

There was a time when 2wd trucks had a distinct look, now in most cases you can't see the difference between 4x4 or 4x2 without looking under the truck. I'm up here at 47 degrees N. latitude where considerations for winter traction are a priority. If I lived where snow and ice wouldn't be a winter issue I think I'd get a 2 door, 2wd Tacoma with that new V6 twin turbo option............😬

4x4 benefits me living in snow country plus towing my camper through difficult terrain. But 90% + of my time I’m in 2wd mode. 2 wheel drive makes sense for those who live in the southern US or most urban drivers in the east.

Gonna buy a truck and only drive it on normal roads 2wheel perfect no need for big tires it’s just heavy and a waste. For get skid plates etc just drive it like a sedan… going off road on weekends 4x4 skid plate it up have fun

You do know this is a modding channel right? Here we don't discriminate based on drive type.

I live in an area where it snows every winter so I’d rather have a 4x4 and not need it than to need it and not have it. In your case however as long as it looks like a 4x4 that’s kool

A man buys what he wants and doesn't care what anyone else thinks. If you are a man who likes an Automatic transmission Miata ? OK. If you have pink dice hanging from the rear view mirror ? It would definitely create some confusion. 😂

I find this comment conflicting? Are you saying you drive an automatic Miata with dice hanging from the rear view mirror?

Kansas winter's.. if you can't drive a 4x2 in snow, you don't deserve to drive a 4x4. Right of passage, I say😮! If I lived where you do, I would definitely save the money and buy a 4x2 ... or a sports car... a, no sports car per Mrs LB20 🙄
