It seems to me that, in order to figure out the origin of the Golden Throne, you have to ask the following question: How old are the Himalayas? We know that what are now the Himalayas were once part of the ocean floor since fossilized sea creatures have been found at the top of Mt Everest. And we know that the creation of the Himalayan range began when the indian tectonic plate collided with the eurasian plate some 50 million to 65 million years ago. Now we must ask, “when was the War In Heaven?” Roughly 60 million years ago, right? Hmmm. I suppose it’s plausible that construction of the Golden Throne could’ve been begun during the time period of the War In Heaven (or immediately after) by the Aeldari and/or Necron. Since it’s believed that the two had an uneasy truce/alliance in order to defeat the C’Tan and there just happens to be a shard of a C’Tan (the void dragon) imprisoned on Mars, it would seem that the Sol system was the site of an ancient battle during the War In Heaven. Who knows, maybe that’s what wiped out the dinosaurs? We’re told it was an asteroid but, nope, it was actually the War In Heaven. 😆 Anyway, great video! I’d love to listen to you recount the daemonic incursion into Commorragh. Cheers! 🍻

@@dreadnoughtgamingd.n.g3123 It’s plausible that Earth could have been a seat of power/base of operations for the Old Ones during the War In Heaven. They almost certainty seeded life on Earth and probably manipulated its evolution. However, I don’t think it’s possible that Earth could be the homeworld of the Necrontyr. We know that the star around which the Necrontyr homeworld orbited was in the process of being devoured by a C’Tan which caused the star to give off a deadly radiation. This radiation was the source of the Necrontyr’s suffering. Their shortened lifespans, genetic mutations, cancer and constant pain is largely responsible for them becoming so bitter and angry and easily seduced by the prospect of immortality via biotransference. Our sun, on the other hand, is still burning bright in M41. How about this - what if the "Throne" (the core aspect of it at least) was always there beneath the ground waiting for the right people to find it? We know the Old Ones used spacial engineering on multidimensional levels, crafting the Webway with it and possibly using that power to demolish or reform material space as a weapon during the War in Heaven. We also know that with a suitably powerful psychic entity installed in it it can further amplify their power in various ways. So... what if these Throne-devices are remnants of the science of the Old Ones, places where they sat and controlled the galaxy, willed their constructions into being and manipulated life into new forms. Literal seats of power for the self-made gods of the time? And after their fall, the beings they seeded in their wake found them, tinkered with them, adapted them to their own needs (albeit with the finesse of replacing a fan belt with a stocking). The Thrones are the legacy of the Old Ones, promising godlike powers in time to their offspring in the future. And... if you're suspicious like me, add a little extra to this. We know the Old Ones could see the future and used this prescience to outsmart their enemies. So what if they saw their battles with the Necron and C'tan were going to need more time than they had? They put some of their Thrones in places where their children would eventually find them and use them to elevate themselves to a level where when their enemies returned the war could be won once and for all. So what if the Emperor is another creation of theirs, millions of years in development, only to eventually arrive with an inbuilt psychic impression of "elders" sacrificing themselves to create his powers to defend the galaxy from the foes of order? There's some elements of his own personality in there, but the key visions that guided him are implanted there to make him a good little playing piece in the Old Ones chess game, destined to find the Throne, destined to sit on it, destined to raise another army to take place in the game they've been playing for eons... we know the Orks have knowledge from the War coded into them still, as do the Aeldari, what if life on Earth was set up the same way? Welcome to existence as pawns in a long game being played across time itself, by players to whom death and extinction are minor inconveniences, and may yet still be there, waiting to make their next move? Kind of puts the God-Emperor into perspective, doesn't it?
@TheLostPrimarch

It would go really well together if the case in point is that the Old ones set everything up in a way so that the Emperor would be created and he would find the device that would become the Golden Throne

@@michaelpettersson4919 Maybe not a literal upload of a soul, how about it just acts as an anchor, holding him in place. I know it's a tenuous link, but we know that 40k as a universe is a sci-fi mirror of Warhammer Fantasy, and we know that the Old Ones are an iteration of the Slann... now when they actually made models of the Slann that weren't just a handful of early frog-men with blowpipes and spears, they were always seated in Thrones carried to the field of battle. Hell, one of them was technically dead too - a mummy carried to battle but still able to wield magic and guide forces... maybe this is a more grandiose sci-fi version of the same thing. Plus if death isn't a barrier to existence, maybe the Old Ones are still around somewhere, somehow, biding their time. It's pretty Lovecraftian. And he did create the literary Old Ones in his own, much borrowed-from mythos.

I guess the Webway was not initially a caotic emsemble of random tunnels in the warp, but had been created to connect specific place, as the Old Ones, who built it originally, were able to create new webways branches to reach anywhere they wish. The Eldari inherited the webway but could not master it, even at their peek, possibly because of the monstrous psychical might requirements of these golden thrones structures. I can imagine the old ones were using those just as devices to project their will and reach across the galaxy, but the Eldar lacked such powerful psykers to put these machines to good use. This is why Comorragh cannot use it's throne and why the Emperor powers are so appealing to them. I can think that, before the mess of the Horus Heresy, Magnus had been tailored by the Emperor to be psychically strong enough to manage the machine, creating a new webway system that could finally link every planet inhabited by humans. Magnus was not meant to be boud eternally to the throne, but just to operate it when required as the Emperor was too occupied on more pressing matters. This was the "Great Design" of the Emperor: to free mankind form its dangerous dependency from the warp. The fact that the Golden Throne currently serves only to project the Astronomicon and the Emperor has been bound to sit on it just to keep the warp rift created by Magnus closed, is purely collateral to its real potential.
@DeathBYDesign666
@DeathBYDesign666 18 күн бұрын
This makes me think it was originally designed to be controlled remotely because Magnus was able to tap into it from across the galaxy. Perhaps any number of alpha+ psychers were able to share the burden of operating it. Well he sure made sure that was impossible to do anymore.

The problem that the Eldar discovered when they tried to hoodwink the Inquisition/Custodes/Mars for some old parts to study for repair they hoped to find the DNA of the Emperor so that they could clone him to operate their own analog. The throne is useless without a being like the Emperor operating it - Malcador survived a few hours - now this begs the question - is he even human or something else ???. The Martian priests know that is a merging of DAOT - some of the Emperor's own design and mostly Eldar technology.

League of Votann lore says that they used shorter routes/jumps and there was a 50/50 chance of getting lost b4 they had Navigators. They also had some sort of beacons, far less effective then the Astronomicon. The Golden Throne is the second one if I remember correctly, the first one was damaged beyond repair and silver not golden. I guess the "Gold" comes from the addition of Auramite as it helps with psychic abilities. The Golden Throne is most likely Old Ones tech and perhaps a Webway stabilizer. Blackstone is confirmed to be Necron tech as far as I remember.

@pills4bill the fact is, however, that only a portion of this rune-tech (speculated to be Eldar in origin) was used for certain. According to the lore, the whole construct is a complicated mass of different kinds of technology, probably even Dark Age of Technology, mixed with xeno psychoreactive materials, and who knows what. We know for sure that at least a portion of it (in my opinion: the base from which the whole structure is derived, probably Eldar in origin) was discovered on Earth during ancient times... to be precise in the same exact location where the Imperial Palace has been erected, along with the Emperor's labs and so on (correct me if I'm wrong, please: I have ton of lore in my head, it gets confusing). It is implied that the Emperor built the whole apparatus from scratches. Even he admits that he havent invented it. However, we should also remember that Throne is not the proper term to describe whatever the apparatus is: according to Malcador, Throne merely describes its function (think about the Throne Mechanicum for Titans and Knights for instance). The Golden Throne isnt even so uncommon and actually there are other similar devices, for example the prototype developed by the Drukhari and another one used by the Death Spectres Astartes Chapter on Occludus (it is called Shariax or Throne of Glass), speculated to be completely xenos in origin. This means, potentially, that the Throne thing is some sort of recurring conceptual technology for advanced races in the galaxy

I actually love that it was still a navigator that was in charge of the Dark Glass project. I know they probably needed navigators, but uh... they could uh... be less willing in this setting. Thats for sure. I havent read the associated book, I'm a filthy casual. So, I'm kinda just taking his willingness for granted to be fair. Could be wrong, maybe hes being extorted or soemthing idk. I'm just kind of a sucker for charecters that know they're fighting their own pragmatic interests for a greater cause. You don't get to be called a hero without sacrifice, and that kind of dynamic might not be as overt as jumping in front of a bullet meant for someone else but it shows someone's charecter. Way better than just making them seem nice. And if you opt not to, you can make someone more complicated. Maybe they're a bastard on an interpersonal level, but they know they're saving lives and they wont waver from that even if it means hurting themselves on a practical level. You can write or imply a lot of layers to that. Maybe there's a resentment, maybe there's stress, but like with familial love, the desire to just fucking help people can overpower that.

So if the throne is made with blackstone then it is both empowering the emperor and allowing the demons to break through when he isnt on it, but if they polarized the blackstone in it then terra would be safe from warp incursion but it would also likely kill the emperor

Well, the throne could be the fusion of multiple alien technologies gathered from across the galaxy during the dark age of technology. Human explorers and diplomats could have aquired ancient relics, formulas, designs and technologies from long abandoned archaeological sites or directly traded for information and technology with other pre-fall alien empires like the eldar. Had the throne been constructed during the dark age, Human scientist and engineers, having access to vast material and intellectual resources, could have fully reverse engineered whatever alien devices they aquired in order to understand the underlying scientific principles about which said devices operated. Once completed they could then integrate any discovered scientific principles into their own technical and scientific understanding. This in turn would have allowed them to construct a unique hybred device that mimiced the function of any alien device that operated using those priciples. With the right collection of derived scientific knowledge, the humans would not have to actually see an example of a webway building device (like the throne) to be able to make one. Just speculate that its possible and start experimenting. Conceivably much of this new devices functionality would be derived from whatever insight the human engineers gathered from eldar design, however their knowledge from other sources in the same field of study would likely allow them to develop alternate solutions that better suited human methodology. Hence a device that draws many parallels with eldar technology but is still uniquely different. That being said, if that were the case, despite being derived from alien sources, the understanding yielded from such devices would have been fundimentally broken down to first principles then reconstructed within the human scientific framework. The devices from which the knowledge was gathered would have been used merely as examples of applied usage and preserved. Not used in the construction of the throne itself. As such, all components in the throne would be manufactured from scratch, to human specifications. Therefore the basic underlying structure would be uniquely human in design supplemented by many advanced specialised components made of exotic materials typically associated with other 40k factions, but otherwise baring no resemblance to said factions own technology 🤔 As described the throne sounds more like a recovered eldar (or old one) device, that's been patched up by engineers with far fewer resources, who's understanding of the devices functionality is nowhere near as comprehensive as it would likely have been had it actually been constructed by humans before the fall. Therefore it seems more likely that the throne and many of the alien technologies used in its construction where gathered before the fall (as previously described) then jury rigged together by someone who lacked the resources to build a new device from scratch. My guess being that after the fall, the emporer had access to a golden age hord of alien technology, including a broken eldar web way maintenance device, that he repaired and repurposed using whatever materials he had to hand, including his stash of golden age tech and other alien relics. 🤔

Possibly also relevant is the Shariax, which is implied to be known of by the Emperor because the Death Spectres' founder brought them to the world of Occludus to use it at the direction of a vision from Him (and the Emperor had been all over during the Great Crusade, so who knows?). The Shariax is significantly less powerful than the Dark Glass or the Golden Throne, but it's a glass throne (so similar vibe to the Dark Glass) and it drains the life-force of the person sitting on it to power its functions. In return for that sacrifice though, the Shariax provides the chapter master of the Death Spectres (each of whom takes up residence on the throne until they die) the ability to psychically oversee the future of the Ghoul Stars which aids them in directing the chapter's movements. Given just how many unknown systems are installed into the Golden Throne, how many lives it consumes to power it, and the fact that the Emperor seems to psychically oversee the whole galaxy from that vantage point to a degree which exceeds his pre-installation level... kinda seems like the GT is a hybrid of the Shariax, the Dark Glass, and probably a bunch of other similar systems from around the galaxy (like the Pharos device), amped up to over 9000.

I don't think that the golden throne/astronomicon had anything to do with the Necrons. Consider that only necron technology we have seen there is blackstone. Blackstone while presumably invented, and made mainly by the Necrons, can be mined and used even by primitives who discover a forgotten Necron structure and notice it's properties. And as you've mentioned yourself, the balckstone fortresses don't seem to have much to do with the Necrons either, suggesting that mayhaps the Eldar can manufacture blackstone on their own. The noctilith was probably used as shielding for the more sensitive parts of the device because it doesn't just stabilise the warp, it straight up weakens its connection to the materium, similarly to how a blank might. Also the throne very much doesn't fit the Necrons apparent hatred of the warp. I think it's a much more recent design. It's ability to be projected as a psychic beacon is way too specific in my opinion. If anything I'd expect it was a joint project between mankind, and one of the kinder factions of Eldar shortly before the age of strife, intended to prevent the total loss of interstellar travel for mankind. Hell, it could've been the Emperor himself who led the human side of the project. Maybe they have failed because they couldn't finish it in time, maybe they couldn't find someone who could survive sitting on it, or maybe the more enlightened humans from the age of technology found the brutal sacrifice too much. Plus psykers of that era were weaker, and it was remarked that large parts of the chambers used for harvesting their psychic powers are not being used meaning you could fit a lot more in there. Whatever the reason, if it was meant to prevent the age of strife it has failed in its original task, but the Emperor either knowing of it already or having discovered it at some point during the long night has managed to get the thing running using his own potent psychic might, and now the sacrifices are being used to make him even more powerful. Also consideringnthat the Emperor had to leave the great crusade to work on the webway project suggests it was not initially intended to access it, but could be modified or somehow made to do so since the webway is a construct within the warp.

I can't recall what book it was in offhand but a Necron has stated that while they utilize Blackstone in various ways it's essentially a rare mineral found around the galaxy. Discovery of the material was of utmost importance as it is/was generally pretty rare.

@ Good point. I'm trying to remember if it was the Imperium of the Necrons who referred to it as "Noctilith." I think it was the Imperium but it comes up so rarely I tend to conflate who said what. In most boons it's just called "blackstone."

Dude it is said in the end and the death that the big E found the throne, so its probly some old tech from old ones or smt like that The exe: ''Of course, as it turned out, there were many more worlds to conquer. The work had scarcely begun. On the banks of the Hyphasis he had won, not for the first time, nor for the last, the throne of the known world. Not long after that, he found another throne. A literal throne. That changed everything. Yes, found it. Well, that’s what he told me.''

Likely the core of the throne was originally built by the Olds Ones surely? Hence it needing such as extremely powerful psyker. It has wraithbone in it by see it as a collaboration between them and their creators. Or maybe the Old Ones originally used wraithbone too and passed the tech on.

BUT there is a major problem to this theories ! If the golden throne was this mix of three technologies, when it was build ?? very ancient ,iat the ´war in heaven´ time ?? At this time it was very unlikely that the old ones tech and necron tech come together and who build it ?? Later in the golden Age of mankind the Emperor was around on earth and should have witnessed the errection of such a monumentel thing ! And also where comes wraithbone and the necron materials to construct it ?? Last, when we talk about necron-tech is it necrotyr tech or C´taan tech ?? And how are these ones being involved ??

It is 40000 years in future where humanity is attacked from all sides, a godlike entity named Emperor of Mankind protect the human race using transhuman soldiers called Space Marines from alien and daemonic threats. Humanity travels the galaxy by cutting distance through cosmic hell where chaos gods live. The future is endless and grim war. It is suffering, it is pain, it is doom. Billions die every day, and that is acceptable for the survival of the species.
