So if I own a company that makes houses it's fine to make the house from bullshit that's going to fall apart because nobody cares? 😂 I know it's not exactly the same but loops being so accepted only hurts the producers. People are selling bundles for 1$ .... Only because their shit has no value. I would never sell my stuff for a dolar. Hip Hop is sample heavy, but a lot of the biggest pop hits we know from the past 2 decades were composed from the bottom up. May be conventional and repetitive in choice of chord progression, but hip hop isn’t the only music. Try to call yourself a jazz producer, but you’re using loops. You’d get laughed out the club. Try making a song for a tenured NeoSoul/RnB artist, but you’re using loops. They’ll laugh you out the studio. Sampling is different.

Not really. If you can compose then sampling is fairly easy. Afrojack wasn’t hating , but I get where he’s coming from. There are producers you admire so much that their work leaves you in awe of their genius. But then you find out they built a track using just three samples from the same sample pack-or even a straight-up construction kit-and it kind of chips away at the mystique. Fred’s undeniably a genius; he’s crafted tracks where he’s used loops and samples in an absolutely masterful way. That said, there are also times when it feels like he’s leaned on them a bit more lazily. I think producers tend to respect those who use loops and samples with more creativity and originality. lets not get it twisted too, having a hit song and artistry are different things, not all hit songs are great songs and not all great songs are hit songs. some producer are great, but can’t make a hit song to safe their lives.

Nobody ever talks about the fact that editing and chopping samples can lead to artifacts, they always sound choppy, and samples often sound like they're just a song pasted into another song. Compositionally, you also can't do basic things, like varying or extending parts, without more editing and chops, which will just make it sound more fake. And if you remake the sample, you could have just taken inspiration from it instead. And if you take inspiration from and study art, you're basically using the standard most powerful method of creating and learning to make art, in any form, and so we have our control back.

Maybe 13-14 years ago(or more) I swore off sampling. A good friend got sued for $15k, and never saw a dime. Plus, DRUGS beats had good issue with KC and the sunshine band. So I quit. But maybe 6-7 years ago when I felt motivated to make music again, I dropped all the barriers I put in front of myself: sampling, loops, collaborating and writing again, I felt free again! The most important thing I want to leave with people is: consumers only care about the end results! No beat maker, or producer (like myself) is going to make or break you. So, make your music, just make it your own and make it good!! I’ll use a loop. But typically, it’s a clean sound (guitar, piano etc) and if I can, I’ll make an interpolation of it or only use it to accent what I’ve done.

Quite a bit of money to clear when I could use a royalty-free loop? By the way, I have placements WITH LOOPS! The only thing the label cared about was did I use any uncleared samples and the answer was no every time. At the end of the day, the name of the game as a producer is get the job done by any means necessary. Whether you use loops, AI, etc, as long as you're combining it with your own creativity, the sky is the limit! Don't ever let anyone tell you what you can and cannot use to make heat!! If it's hot, I promise no one is going to care how you made it except other producers apparently 😒

Some of the people saying “don’t use samples or loops” are some of the same people pushing “buy my sample packs”. In the end, try to use the samples & loops you choose more creatively. Make them your own for the sake of the track and your own originality and style.

@@Rhekluse I’d just suggest that people make great music. Whatever loop you use, even if it’s ’as-is,’ create the best possible song around it, eg the Sabrina carpenter song.

When I first started all I had was samples. No VSTs. We didn't have Splice either. I just had Fruity Loops, a record player, and CDs. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of "real musicians" actually use some of the things they slam but speak out so they can feel superior. Every industry has their share of "real ones" haha. It's silly! Thanks for the video!

Loops packs are fine, The only problem using loops is the creative process can be limited and a lot quicker. I find much more joy in finding samples and chopping.

Flipping samples takes a special person to hear and rearrange something in their head first that an average person wouldn't hear!! Cant discredit loops or sampling!!

Iv been using splice n loopcloud since I started. Iv only being producing 6 months. I made this decision as I want to get dialled in with my masters and overall sound quality. I then started to use my own beats. Now I'm using my own bass lines. So once I fully understand software then il make the slow transition to fully creating my own music. I have no music theory I have to Google chords but I play by ear.

The main sound on Gorillaz's "Clint Eastwood", which is their first and biggest hit EVER, was a stock sound from a Casio keyboard used as is.
