Real Son is an animation about a young boy who brings his friend home. It turns out that this friend has more in common with his father than he does.
The youth crisis is growing.

Is the expectation for men really that high or it's just a internet meme? Story time: I remember when I came to my much older friend's house from work. He clearly had no one to talk to, and he was like in this video. Then, when I was standing in the hall, the door opened to his son's bedroom, he was about my age and looked very unkempt. Not a great look. He quickly closed his door in panic, probably thinking I had already left... weird having your own son and wanting someone else to take his place.

@Stryfe564
@Stryfe564 6 ай бұрын
What I realized about my childhood, is part of the reason I was not what my dad wanted is because I disliked my dad very early on because he often got into intense emotional conflict with my mom. I always experienced him as insecure, absent, solipsistic, and full of aggression issues. The family life wasn't how he had dreamt it up so he just withdrew and pretty much didn't raise me. Because of that everything associated with my dad, like cars, football etc. became sort of repulsive to me. Nowadays I actually like learning about technology and doing sports. I did have some development issues which made sports and communication harder for me as a kid. But my dad did not help by withdrawing, he actually gave me more defects. And he never genuinely encouraged me to develop myself as a man. When I hear about dads who give their sons some pressure to become more capable and independent I get very jealous. He only stuck around because he would've felt like a bad person otherwise. I had a lot of potential despite my setbacks but in part thanks to my dad I will always feel like a defective human being at my core.

@@Stryfe564 I relate to your story very much. You can't fix the damage your dad gave you but you can live and develop yourself despite it. Atending a psychologist would help a lot (at least it helped me) however you will have to fight your deepest insecurities and accept your negative experiences to actually deal with the damage. It wont solve them of course but it'll shed light on the path to be a better version of yourself. To be honest I'm kinda tripping my way over there, but I keep going forward to not feel miserable anymore. Dude, I dont even know you but I truly wish you don't give up on yourself. One thing that I learned is that life doesnt have a meaning, you gotta make it mean something

Damn, Ivos dad really turned heel there. Felt like there was some potential for him to develop some understanding and find some common ground with Ivo, but it seems like he's found himself too tempted by the son he wish he'd had. I've always liked these videos because I don't think they really point a finger at who's wrong or who's right, the viewer is largely left to be the judge. Ivo lives the way he wants to live, he's not hurting anyone. His father up until this point just wanted to have something to bond with his son over, but struggled because finding common ground was tricky. But father-son relationships are a mutual thing, and Ivo needs to want that connection as much as his father does. I think based on this video it shows that it is something that Ivo wants, but is he trying as hard as he could be? Or is his father expecting far too much of him? His father giving the father-son treatment to Julian is clearly impacting him, but what can he really do about it? Julian is a roided up simpleton, he's abandoned any sort of intellectual or creative pursuits in his life in favor of getting swole and chasing women. Does Ivo have to completely destroy every aspect of himself to become like that, just to become the more traditional son his father wishes he was, and have any chance of a relationship with him? In this video Julian isn't an agitator, he just simply is himself. He's not trying to take Ivo's father away from him-- infact, he seems a little awkward at first when Ivo's dad starts funneling his fatherly instincts onto him. He warms up to it, but is that his fault? Like Ivo's dad, Julian is just enjoying the company of someone he can bond with. Nobody is acting out of malice here, but in the end, someone is ending up deeply hurt all the same.

Weak young men should be expected to live up to an ideal. Accepting their weakness will only make them weaker. People don't grow and improve by being accepted entirely, all that does is permit stagnation, not self-actualisation.
@RedFloyd469
@RedFloyd469 5 ай бұрын
And what "self" would you be actualising, exactly? You should always ask yourself this question first and foremost. Otherwise you end up being somebody ELSE'S actualization. Ivo, in this video, clearly does not share his father's passion, hobbies, character, etc... Why should that be a bad thing? Why should all men strive for the same exact goals? Because memes demand it? Because that's what the propaganda demands? Because that's what insecure people demand? If you cannot answer that question positively, or have to resort to repeatedly parroting the same fallacies, then the problem lies with you, not with what you call people who "accept their weakness". If Ivo has different passions, then he should explore those passions and grow in so far as it suits his wishes and his needs. THAT would be HIS self-actualization. Embracing an ideal of physical strength and superficial looks because that's what certain political propagandists desire for their tribal mindset, rather than because it's what you personally want, is inherently insecure, mindless behavior.

I just started doing push-ups daily because of my dad. He told me to build my frame up like he once did, and I just do it for that specific reason. Even though I like to get healthy and fit, I still don't want to do most of the stuff he once did, like football and baseball. He even asks me why I'm not in any sports but he just accepted that I wouldn't. The only one who let me be me was my mother, no one else. But I'm fine with working out daily, I kinda need it anyways. So I can kinda relate to this video, but not fully.

I grew up to a maximum height of 5'5.5". I kept my hair long, wore makeup, dated guys, and did all that stuff that they say is "everything wrong with America today." I'm considered a "black sheep" in my family. I'm now engaged to my lovely future wife, I have a career, and I'm as familiar with what's under the hood of my car as I am a good shot with a sidearm. I'm still too small for long guns tho. Life is a complicated thing. What makes a man masculine, in my opinion, is protecting the weak and providing for your dependents. Fighting for an ideal world for your loved ones instead of accepting a status quo that harms them. Meeting your obligations, staying strong for those who need a shoulder to cry on, and seeking to better yourself so that you can do all of these things even better.

Their relationship is like modern day Hank and Bobby Hill. Yeah they have a hard time seeing eye to eye and bonding sometimes. But the love and effort is there. Dad has went to Ivo's dance recitals. And Ivo has gone on fishing trips and to the gym with his dad. And they have meaningful conversations were they try to understand each other. But the challenges of having drastically different personalities and interest is evident. But As long as that effort is there? They'll find common ground eventually. Just like Hank and Bobby did at the end of the series.

And there was my best friend, Muhammet Talha, he was 1 year younger than me and slimmer so he ran faster etc. They enjoyed a lot, but fuck bro i did not because i was fat. Then I became a boxer. Nevermind he doesnt know this because he left me and my mother 6 years ago when i was 13. I learnt all the fucking household(which for firstly men, then learned other things that women mostly do in case of loneliness). I raised myself, still thinks a loser because everybody has father, money but i do not. I have to protect my mother, also she cant work. I'll probably join military school for high command. The amount of money can save my mother, also a lounge to live. I fucking dont know what should I do, i m just a fucking lazy fat ass boy in 2010s. But a sportive, more handsome and taller one.
