The issue with crowdkilling is that you can't opt out of it like the pit for example -- where you can still be on the edge of it and not risk having your $13 beer kicked or punched out of your hand.

Been going to beatdown shows for over 10 years it's very easy to avoid getting crowdkilled and yes you can "opt out" of it. Just don't be in that first outter row. Literally just move a bit back. Or pro tip just keep you kegg extended out , whenever they make contact with something they immediately roll over to the next part of the pit to avoid hitting the same people too many times

Crowdkilling is the one thing I disagree with in a pit unless it's a beatdown show. There's no need to be sucker punching people who are 3-5 people deep outside the pit.

Moshing should be done in the pit. People standing outside of the pit are standing outside of the pit for a reason, they don’t want to get hit. Crowdkilling sucks. If someone is crowdkilling they shouldn’t get angry when someone hits them back.

"Don't be violent and start fights with people punching you in the back of the head, they just really like our music..." 😂 ok. He's right in the sense that there shouldn't be violence, and for that matter crowdkilling should absolutely not be a thing. So someone likes music so much that they are going into psychosis and beating the shit out of people, and the rest of the crowd is supposed to be ok with it? Right... so for that matter as long as you are enjoying yourself you can hurt whoever you want.

Hardcore dudes will smack the shit out of somebody, and then call it "moshing". Maybe i haven't had many chances to experience a real hardcore pit for myself because I live in a mid-size city far from any large city. The moshpits we have here are just fine. People hit their heads on something or fall over often, but I don't see many of them going around and targeting/smacking people. I love hardcore music and i love mosh pits, but I'm pretty short. I also forgot to add that the scene has expanded in a huge way more recently because of KZbin etc. a lot of the people getting into the scene now have come into it differently than we did (being thrown into the pit and baptized in the musics of our peoples) and I think we just haven't figured each other out yet. It also affects the mosh culture because some of these kids (gonna talk about them like I'm not one of them I have been listening to extreme metal for ten years but that's still a baby for the scene) and when I went to my first show I had someone to tell me pit etiquette, some of these kids might notnhave that 😢.

I have huge respect for americans that are moshing this hard, i would never do that if i knew that the healthcare system won't be there for me 😅 I don't go too hard and still managed to break my foot at a gojira show and last year i dislocated my shoulder at a deez nuts festival gig, i had to go to two hospitals to get it back in and after the festival i went to my local hospital where i had to have an operation. That lead to 2 months at home and two more where i couldn't properly do the handy side of things at my job alone. I didn't pay a penny for any of that and the physical therapy got covered by my private insurance. I don't even want to think about how fucked i would have been in america 😬 After that i decided that i'm too old to mosh now. I like the dancing, but never liked crowd killing. At least with dancing, there is a point. Release your anger or stress or whatever, But why crowdkill? Maybe the area I was in wasn't as hard as other areas, but when I was growing up. People would dance in the pit near center, and as they approached the wall of people they'd stop right there. Some would catch some fists or feet sure, but the point was they weren't trying to hurt people, they were just dancing. I get the argument, "Well thats just how hardcore is. If you don't like it, dont be near it" But if everyone adopted a better mindset, might be able to change it for the better.

Going to shows in any scene is supposed to be an inclusive activity where everyone is there for the same reasons, crowd killing is the complete opposite. You're not "getting your aggression out", you're being a self absorbed child.

Not really sure why people are into the 'music' of Sanguisugabogg. It's inherently violent because it's themes are about the violent and macabre. There's nothing edifying about it.

I'm starting to realize in my older age how insanely immature some of this shit is. Just thinking back on some old deathcore bands could give good examples of problematic ideas and themes. It's normalized despite the inherently problematic nature.

I listen to a lot of Death Metal like Death, Carcass, Deicide, Obituary and I enjoy it a lot. There's always been extreme violent themes with Death Metal, look at Cannibal Corpse, but they never encouraged real violence and always said it's meant to be like a horror movie, its just supposed to be scary. These guys on the other hand give me the wrong vibe, they don't denounce actual violence at their shows trying to justify that their music is violent therefore their fans can be violent too. That's just lame and turned me off their band a lot, and I already felt like it was just a rip off of Carcass

As someone who started shit in a hardcore pit at a Hatebreed show. Those guys will protect their own. Yes I got jumped. So now I hardcore dance!!!!!! Funny story but same people don't jump me anymore because now I join their pits and do their moves but I get close enough to land an elbow or two and have been kicked and punched in the face already in the process but the loophole is working ;)

I think the hate between metal and hardcore is a kind of entitlement. Like you said along the lines of "breathing MY air". Growing up in a little shithole town in the bible belt in the middle of nowhere with a scrapped together dui scene pooling other bands from little towns, you not only didn't see that level of animosity, but almost everyone supported one another; there are always assholes of course but collectively it was an oasis from the rest of the culture around us. I miss those days, the scene here is dead now and there hasn't been a show here in years, I feel bad for the youth more than anything because it was one of the only places that made me feel accepted outside of my personal circle of friends and felt like a part of a community and now they have nothing of the sort, it's sad
@marcanthonybattenberg7636

The hate between metal and hardcore isn't entitlement, it's different ideals and fan bases that don't get along with one another for various reasons. I am a metalhead, and my friends and partner are metalheads, and we all enjoy a lot of music considered hardcore. I've been to both local hardcore and thrash shows and genuinely enjoyed the music. The hate comes from how different the fans are now in the modern day. Metal fans have a strong sense of brotherhood, having eachothers backs and making sure nobody gets hurt, if someone falls in the pit you pick them up, and you don't hit people not moshing. Hardcore fans will do arm swings, spin kicks, and even hit people not moshing and then get mad if anyone complains or hits back in defence. They treat the show like its their personal playground to do what they want, and metal fans get tired of it because hardcore fans will do this at metal shows and not care that they're ruining it for others. It comes down to a lack of respect. If hardcore kids wanna do hardcore dancing at hardcore shows that's one thing. But it's genuinely annoying when hardcore kids go to metal shows and not follow the unwritten social rules.

Crowdkilling is inherently targeting the crowd, that's the definition. If you accidentally hit somebody in the crowd then that's one thing but crowdkilling is when you actually kick the crowd or throw a punch into the crowd

@@RemmyRiffsactually they are 2 different things entirely. Crowd killing is when someone runs around in a circle punching everyone in the room as a way to get people amped up for the show. Targeting is when a hardcore dancer targets a specific person who is part of the crowd or part of the pit. I hope this helps.

Crowd killing is the form of consensual violence at these shows, it’s the fun part about these shows. I think the people getting upset about it are just a bunch of suckas that love to have opinions about shit they don’t know about. I’m a small as skinny boy and I’ve broken my nose due to crowd killers and you can choose to be upset about it, but it’s apart of the dope ass edgy scene it is, you can choose to laugh about it, or be another everyday guy and gasp about it. Don’t criticize it just realize you don’t like getting swung at bruv.

The idea that people trying to hurt other people because it's fun and it is what it is is cringe and dumb af. Karate and crowdkillers should get their asses beat to teach them to show respect for others and let others enjoy the show. Hardcore is about helping and supporting others, beatdown is not hardcore.
