Real Talk: Mapping our Identities Through Personal Narrative | Diana Moreno | TEDxUF

Diana's 'real-talk' breaks down difficult conversations that facilitate unity and diversity among college students. Ms. Moreno simplifies a few easy steps in breaking down barriers to encourage identity mapping.
Diana Moreno was born in Quito, Ecuador and moved to Florida with her family in 1999. Her immigrant experience has shaped her academic and professional interests. She received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Florida in 2011 where she developed her passion for human rights through her involvement in Student/Farmworker Alliance. After working as a labor organizer and human rights monitor, she returned to the University of Florida and earned her Master’s in Latin American Studies in 2016. She now serves as the Assistant Director of Multicultural and Diversity Affairs and the advisor for the Gatorship Leadership and Social Justice retreat. She’s passionate creating an inclusive campus environment that represents and empowers historically underrepresented students. In her spare time Diana loves to teach Zumba, listen to podcasts, and read books written by LGBTQ and/or people of color.

I think this is a pretty superficial way to think of personal narrative… It’s more like learning to project one’s current narrative rather than analyzing it. Projecting does not help the root of the problem which is that the majority of people are just adopting theirs from relatives or the media. This leaves people open to retaining toxic traits and no amount of respectability politics is going to fix that. People need to start creating their own narratives from scratch. Edit: looking at the title again, I think that was the point. Still just seems like massive validation seeking though.
