The night life died in the 2000 teens due to, to much violence at each major and popular spot. Causing them to close down. Now it's mostly bars. Pierre's was one of the hottest clubs in the mid west. A 5 room club with plenty of diversity. When that place closed. That was the beginning of the end of the night life in Fort Wayne. People use to travel from Illinois, Michigan and Ohio just to Party for the weekend. But with the young violent culture came and destroyed all the fun.

I was too born in Florida. Tampa city. And have lived in Fort Wayne for 20 years out of the 29 years of my life. I love the Fort. Especially since we don't have to worry about several natural disasters like the south does. Or the rest of the country for that matter. The Midwest is nice and cozy, is how I like to look at it.

It is cozy and affordable. Luckily for us we moved here before home prices drastically increased so we have a nice home for an unbelievable price. And it's still more affordable than most of the U.S.

@@LivingInFortWayne the rent is also not that bad still, seeing how some struggle to live with room mates in major cities from across the country, you can live just fine on your own in a studio apartment for close to nothing comparably. We have that going for us too! But yes, even tho house prices, taxes, property value, interest rates, ect. Are still up, we are still on a good swing of things. Also I do see the gloomy weather bit for the winter time can be a drag for sure, but when sunshine does hit us, you better believe people take advantage of it here and are out and about. We definitely don't take it for advantage. 😎🌞🌻

@@LivingInFortWayne yeah, it's a cycle for sure. But again, I'm comparing the Midwest (not Chicago) to the rest of the country and we are sitting pretty. Also one more thing, we did used to have 2 Sonics 1 Krispy Kremes 1 Hooters And At least one 7/11 Within the last 15 years or so before they got closed down made into something else. I bring this up because I think we get more local places that take over these things in our community. At least that's what I think. We don't have any White Castles because or Powers Hamburgers for thier own reasons. But these places that I listed above still do exist in the state of Indiana so if someone REALLY got a craving to go to one, it isn't too far away from us. There's a Denny's about an hour east in Ohio. P.s. We have Lee's famous chicken strips restaurants which I'd say is worth your time, for sure.

Used to live just south of FW and spent a lot of time working there, going to Ivy Tech and in the music scene...('81 - '98) Crime got to be a REAL issue, especially with the gangs and culture on the south side. It finally ruined a really good mall, (Southtown Mall) when people started being shot in the parking lot and stores. I remember one year where there was a murder-a-day for something like 26 straight days. Lot of stuff coming in from Detroit. Not a lot to do, (Indiana was just pretty boring overall), so lots of restaurants, and the weather from Nov. thru May was just NASTY. Cold, wet and dark from the "lake effect" from Chicago. This guy is right when he talks about how depressing it gets. I moved to e. Tennessee, but the summers were actually worse in Indiana, and the winters FAR worse. First thing I remember after I moved to TN was how blue the sky was, (vs. the grayish blue overcast in Indiana) and how many things to go and see that I never experienced in Indiana. (Waterfalls, mountains, huge lakes, 200+ year history sites, etc.) On the other hand, the people were ok and the coney dogs at Coney Island are beyond insanely good. THAT I miss.

Things are changing in Ft Wayne. The county just sent out the latest appraisals . Many properties shot up about 20% or more. My old addition just got two new houses and saw vacant lots increasing from $30k to $70k. SW side in Aboite. I`m retired and don`t want increases in property taxes or traffic.

Focusing on the fast food restaurants was a waste of time when you consider all of the great local restaurants of all kinds around the city. As far as music goes, you missed mentioning Sweetwater, the Clyde, some of the bars that have live music regularly, there is so much that you just glossed over. And while there may not be any major professional sports teams here, you can’t go without mentioning the Tincaps for some solid baseball in a beautiful ballpark, nor the Komets which is an institution in the city with decades of hockey history.

Hello. I have lived in Fort Wayne, pretty much since birth. I remember as a kid going to sonic and it was fun and delicious. When we do travel out of state we always promise to go to sonic once. Sadly about I’d say almost 12 or 13 years ago the sonic here in at least the northern part of Indiana all shut down. As for chicken places there is also lee’s chicken it’s kind of a local chicken place but I’ve seen lee’s chicken elsewhere but then Popeyes burst on to the scene roughly about 4 or 5 years ago.

I lived in Orlando, Chicago, and San Diego and I’ve been around the world twice just to give you my perspective. Local, local, local in all things is what I preach, you can eat at McDonalds, Wendy’s, or any other franchise chain anywhere, Hall’s, Coney Island, and powers hamburgers are just a couple of places I recommend, Laredos is another example, keep doing what you’re doing but have locals who know the nuisances and history of Fort Wayne

I lived in Fort Wayne the area of Hessen Cassell/McKinney/Abbott/ and moved because: 1. A drive by shooting in an a nearby apartment complex. You could her the gun shots. 2. Several killings. One body found in the back of an apartment complex. 4. A person hung himself in the back of this complex. People walking by taking pictures but not reporting it to the police. 3. A mother owned a bakery shop on Hessen Cassell behind the Shell Gas Station was kidnapped at home in front of her kids, taken a couple blocks from it and shot 30 it 40 times. 4. Heavy prostitution in this area and various children. A lot of landlords or property management look the other way. The rent has to be paid right? 5. Had to call police more than 15 times just to get in my front door. 6. Saw a drug drop right on front of window. 7. Possible human trafficking. 8. My house had been and vehicle had been broken into more than two times. There is a large Burmese community living in this area. Nothing wrong with that but a lot of them are becoming involved in this kind of behavior.

Buying my first home is also a big goal of mine as I approach 30 years old soon, but with all the inflation here in Florida between the housing market, home owners insurance, etc, I just don't know if I can make that goal happen here. I'm worried that I might move to Fort Wayne and hate the city compared to Orlando but it's hard to tell right now.

Large colleges have chapel Hill, Memorial Stadium, William-Brice Stadium, etc. Remember when you were in college on college game day, for football and basketball game’s especially. Every large college town has at least one street…named either Broadway or University. All the bars and clubs are on that street. I’m also scared of being the minority (stl black population in the majority) how is it as a black person there?
@LivingInFortWayne
@LivingInFortWayne Жыл бұрын
Good question! I recommend visiting first. If your bf lives here, what does he do or think abt the night life? Nightlife I can say…Fort Wayne…idk how to put it in a nice way…not it! It’s not for nightlife. But don’t be afraid just b/c something is different. If you’re accustomed to living in a majority minority city, like STL, tbh FW will be a culture shock. It’s not super small but it’s the perfect size. No traffic. Most people move here for jobs or are looking for an affordable place to live. Which is huge b/c with that savings you can travel to Indy, Cleveland, Columbus, Chicago or Detroit…all of those cities have plenty nightlife but are expensive to live. There is a black population but most are from here or the surrounding areas. I’ve lived in foreign countries and all over the U.S. so demographics don’t matter to me. I hope that was helpful. One of the things that you forget to mention, is the political climate. Almost every politician from the mayor's office all the way down to the city council virtually ignores the will of the people. For example, I live in city district 5. My councilman Geoff Paddock brushed me off in order to do an interview about the scooter issue. I've requested meetings with the Mayor and was completely ignored.

Unfortunately no Sonics on Lima. That’s true you can get chicken strips at all those places….Which is funny cause we’re in Texas right now and the first place my wife and daughter went to was Raising Canes. I think it’s hard to articulate the difference between these types of restaurants.

@@LivingInFortWayne It's not that hard to articulate the difference I was trying to be sarcastically funny Of course those places are not family friendly, I guess we don't know what it's like to have good chicken and to want good chicken until we've had good chicken We've always just been stuck with KFC or famous lee's. Personally there is nothing better I would love to do then get out of fort Wayne and try something different, It feels like after you've lived here your whole life, if you've gone around the block a few times you've seen everything. I moved to Leo last fall....do NOT like it here. The north side of Ft Wayne has nothing! Every store and restaurant I would like is 25 miles away from me. We only have ONE Costco to cover 800,000 people in Ft Wayne and all the people who drive here from Ohio, Michigan, and surrounding towns. Not acceptable. Everything (almost) on Dupont Dr is fast food. Don't even try to find a doctor, especially if they are specialists! Waited 4 months to get an appt with Dermatologist, 5 months for Neurologist. This is insane. If interest rates come down, I am leaving

Aldi is opening on Dupont and Dupont Oaks Q1 2023. Much needed. Also the new-ish Meijer on Dupont as well. Not much food options over there like you said but Leo Crossing at least has Guadalupe's, Lexy's Pizza, and Salvatori's. Also Maplecrest has decent food (Shigs In Pit, Salsa Grille, Casa Grille). Don't overlook Giordano's, Nori, Solbird, and Bagger Dave's off Dupont as well! Yes FW needs more big box/warehouse stores, or at least a second Sams & Costco, but I feel like FW is expanding on Dupont beyond fast food and apartments! Plus you're right by I69 if you really need to get out of the Fort for some fun or eats.
