At first she seemed obnoxious, but as the conversation progressed, I found her to be quirky, intelligent, and funny. She is different, but I kind of like different.

DarthCipient Liz Mair was fine, except she talked too much. Maybe it was just the symptoms of her rarely encountering any discussions on her level. The dearth of meaningful discussion on the right in America is mind-numbing, so Fair lives an unbalanced life and was unaware of how she was crowding out this discussion.

Eric Toribio She's one of those that doesn't intentionally try to be funny, but it comes out that way. And she seems very reasonable and likeable. You have to give her props for openly admitting how bad Mitt Romney was for her party.

Finally! I'm impressed. We've uncovered a witty, honest intelligent Republican consultant with a sense of humor. Bravo, I thought they were extinct. Not that she's a walk in the park: Walker; PERRY???. et al? Sounds like she's a bit of a masochist, or just on that money train with no real connection to her Hall of Shame clients. Perry? Really? Wow.

Phobosinadamant Roughly 40% of the Kurds are Shiite, whom ISIS and other Sunni militants consider heretics, so those kind of have to fight back. Also, ISIS is encroaching into their territory and basically want to overthrow the Kurdish semi-autonomous government. And finally, the Kurds seem to not be as fanatic and passionate about their religion as Arabs tend to be. Their Kurdish ethnicity seems to be more important to them than Islam.

I just wonder why has Bill failed to actually talk about the Kurds for more than one minute and give a bit of recognition to their Men AND WOMEN which you can't see anywhere else in the Middle East, They are exactly the kind of people we need in ME as they are like Christians in Europe and US who don't take their religion very seriously.

V4Vendetta a lot of the ones in turkey have communist leanings. before they didn't like the usa. now they seem to be kind of mixed but still not trusting of the usa of which i don't really blame them. that could be a reason.

Ernie Hudson I was thinking the same thing. Kurds are respected by westerners, but too easily forgotten. One of the few places where I would use the awareness. We need more awareness of what the Kurds are doing. We should find their George Washington, some general or well liked politician, and declare them an independent state. Give them everything they need to make a functional state, including lots and lots of tanks. They want their independence and they're earning it.

captaincarl1 Jalal Talabani, a brave Kurd that was fighting Saddam Hussein when the West was supporting Hussein, was the first ever democratically-elected leader of Iraq, so I'd say he's as good as anyone in regard to your well-made and astute Washington point. Also, in the aftermath of the 2003 intervention, the Kurds were happy to be part of a federalised Iraq as they now can at least have the possibility of living in Iraq's boarders without the fear of being the victims of state-organised genocide. That's not to say that the Kurds don't have a just claim to statehood- they number about 35-40 million in Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Syria and Lebanon yet have no representation at the UN, whereas the royal family of Qatar has a seat at the UN. The plight of the Kurds also predates that of the Palestinians, yet very few liberals even know this (and often don't even care to know)

Matthew Singh-Dosanjh Thanks for that post. I couldn't agree more. America backed the nation of ... Kosovo? Why do that before Kurdistan, it's insane. Americans love the Kurds when they find out about them. During the creation of an independent state, there would have to be some period for Right of Return.

Ernie Hudson It looks like "European" doesn't mean much anymore. But yeah, Kurds seem like good allies to us in the Middle East and we should stand by them. They don't seem to be as fanatic and passionate about their religion as the Arabs tend to be, and that's a great asset.

Tim Clarkson A great deal of them aren't particularly religious- many of them are secular, socialists/communists/Marxists/Trotskyists. Also, don't forget they've been at war with the forces of Jihad for years before the West was, and was in fact fighting these forces when the West was backing them. The West has no truer friend and ally than the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and its Peshmerga fighting unit.

I'm usually with Bill on the topic of Islam but this idea that we should expect moderate Muslims to go to the Middle East to fight ISIS to prove how against extremism they are is absolutely absurd. ISIS is anathema to me and you too, Bill, but it's obvious why we aren't picking up a rifle and flying to Syria, it's no different than moderate Muslims.

Everyone has drone technology in 2015 . So it's not likely the U.S.,would stop using their drone technology .That's not even an option anymore Drones are much more than a weapon .. that's a huge bonus .

How can anyone take these opinions seriously when they seem to continually be misinformed or under-informed? More Americans (and Canadians) have gone to fight against ISIS than for it, namely siding with the Kurds. My one hope out of all of this is that the Kurds finally get a homeland other than being fractured around a half dozen countries where (save Iraq) they are despised.

The government and the owners of all types of weapons should accelerate the implementation of microchips, I inculuso the installation of pass-codes for the use of firearms. now it already has a pass-codes "phones, computers, houses doors you say is key to its use, and believe me this key would decrease quite the misfortunes that are read in the news.(like the james bond signature gun only he can fire it) note i will like to read your comments thanks

ISIS once claimed a drone attack killed a captive female nurse who was part of doctors without borders. Our government denied it. Will they admit their part in her death too, or is she just collatoral damage?

Huang is totally right about the Telecommunications Act and I Heart (formerly Clear Channel) taking over FM radio. It does bear a large role for why pop and country music in America has become so mediocre in the last couple of years.

In the Spanish American War, there were many people who appreciate the merits of Socialism who fought alongside the freedom-loving Republicans. Bill's bald-headed guest implied that all the groups fighting the Franco fascists were funded by Stalin. Joseph Stalin was a mass-murdering SOCIOPATH, not a Socialist, and not even really a communist. He was a Stalinist. Lumping the brave people who fought against Spain's very own mini Hitler together with Stalin is not just historically revisionist and ignorant beyond belief, but it is an insult to their efforts,.

Why does Real Time bring on these young female conservatives (like S. E. Cupp and this Liz Mair) who are unknown for anything as guests? Why should I care about their opinion, Real Time staff? For years I kept paid HBO just to watch Real Time live. I wasn't just paying for Bill Maher, but for the quality of the guests. What's up with your booker this past couple of years, or is the Beltway and Congress giving Bill the cold shoulder?

ONE THING THE TRICKLE DOWN THEORY HAS DONE IS: Favored the privileged and the aggressive. And that is not a good thing. For one thing the stress has gone way way up for the average American and in short he/she is largely fighting a losing game. In regards to success.

There ARE moderate Muslims from Europe (particularly Germany) who have gone to the Middle East to fight Isis. ARD had a good documentary about it on German TV. The question you should be asking, Bill, is why do you never HEAR about them.

Some interesting things about the bombing that "killed" the 2 American hostages. According to the reports they used "thermal targeting" and only had 4 heat signatures. After the bombing they found not 4 bodies but 6. Which is how they found out they had accidentally killed the 2 hostages. They are assuming the hostages must have been hidden in some tunnels underground and that was the reason they never knew they were there. Until after the fact. Now here is my question; How is it nobody is considering the idea/theory that the 2 hostages were already dead and that's why they didn't get any heat signatures from them? Rather then the idea/theory that they must've been hidden. Just an idea or thought. I don't figure I know any more about the situation than anyone else, but considering the past knowledge we have of ISIL/ISIS it is not entirely out of the question. For those who don't know what knowledge I'm speaking of, According to some reports the Jordanian pilot was already deceased when the location he was hidden was bombed by the Jordanian Air force. All while ISIS/ISIL was trying to negotiate a trade for him with Jordan. Given that knowledge, wouldn't it be just as likely that ISIS/ISIL had already killed the 2 hostages as they did with him?

Can’t understand all this squawking about the use of drones from those who live in a nation that is engaged in a “global war on terror.” If the Union didn’t have to go through “due process” before employing its forces against American citizens who took up arms against it to fight for the Confederacy, why do they think Americans who join terrorist organizations require “due process” before a weapon system like a drone is employed against them? And if American terrorists are expected to have the right of “due process,” the same standard should be used for non-American terrorists since the Bill of Rights places restrictions on the U.S. government independent of citizenship because, as Americans claim, “…all men are created equal [and] they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Mike Gravel was a poor candidate, but not a nut. He was emotional, and expressive and not the typical low-key political campaign robot. Howard Dean got shut out for the same stupid reason, he showed some real fire. Mike is a great American statesman worthy of better than an off-hand comment by Bill about not remembering his being on the show. You fucked up this week, Bill. You let the knee-jerk reactionary get a solid kick in on one of the people who made America a better place. Please correct your error by learning about Mike online and setting the record straight. He's not a nut like Bachman.

Rethink the drone policy? Yes! Yes and Yes! Drones should only be used in the most extreme of circumstances - as a last resort - and for very specific situations - PERIOD!!

What an awful woman this Liz Mair, "You should ask him, So You should ask him again" - Wow, she cannot be stopped - she is a talking machine, a know-it-all, pedant, arrogant, bully. - I am bored with people with a hidden agenda to outsmart Bill - please, I tune in to listen to Bill - not the guests -they should get their own show if they so urgently need to interrupt, speak over the host and go on monologue.- And that gagging Ana Marie Cox is no prize either-

I believe Liz Mair there to be entertaining which I really enjoy with Bill's show, so I'm glad to see her form stretched out on screen. She can even be fairly funny at times with her knowledgeable, monotone presentation. It's just that in her Republican way she's got the basics of better government and a kinder gentler nation wrong. Means she wouldn't be all that funny for very long. Kinda like Dennis Miller, sort of. But in short shifts like this she's good for the show, as Dennis is usually too.

Concerning the acceptable collateral damage when it comes to the drone strike. One of the victims was Italian. If it was the Italian government doing the same (or any other government for than matter) and the result was an American citizen as "collateral damage" was the general opinion the same? If yes, I still disagree but I accept the argument and the apologies. If not, any argument is self evidently hypocritical and whoever proposes/defends it is full of... well, you get the point.

I dont know if this is attached to subject matter. But i lov your work . But really our gov is f. I have been retired military. But i agree but question some beliefs of you and beliefs. Like your work and its you simplify our missions directed by our gov understand that not f political . But we aren't f cops that give a death sentence to a Us American . Got billions of hardware to kill but yet. We don't f kill just cause we can

So there was a report that drones cause less collateral damage than warfare although the psychological effect may be worse. It's an interesting question.
