It amazes me how anyone and especially Bill thinks that our voting system allows us to vote for who we want. First-past-the-post ensures that voters are uncoordinated and have to vote for the lesser of two evils. It prevents any third party from being able to build up or gain any traction. Why is it so difficult for people like Bill or Cenk to understand that changing our voting system is a very important issue?
@1998nicksdad10 жыл бұрын
our voting system has changed but for the worst. who people want in congress doesnt mean anything wih gerrymandering around. There were 3 million more votes in 2012 for dems in congress yet republicans win seats because of gerrymandering, without that and voter suppression republicans couldnt win a school board election, in todays america, they are a minority and I believe they should be treated the same way they treat other minorities and lets see how they like it, let them feel how minorities feel, blacks, hispanics, gays, oh yeah give them the same treatment they give to others, maybe, just maybe the regular folks who vote against their own interests and goals may change how they vote. I find it amazing how many misguided middle class vote against their own financial and economical interest, will one of you please justify being republican, enlighten us with all the republican policies that have helped you or anyone you love, take a month to come up with just ONE you will need it, go on justify voting against yourself
@QualityServiced10 жыл бұрын
don't know what you're talking about, but I've heard him say the voting system needs to be fixed before on this show.

the congress has a 9% approval rating and yet 90% of congress gets reelected, your right, people dont realize that there are options. 1 out of 10 dont like their congressman and yet 9 out of 10 reelect him or her, crazy

If you watched Bill's show more often you would know he has brought up the shitty electoral system. He also constantly talks about representation because California has far more people than say Nebraska but they have the same representation.
@Mutex5010 жыл бұрын
Chris Hall I am NOT talking about the electoral college or representation in the Senate. I am talking about the problem of vote splitting. I watch Maher all the time and I've never heard him talk about alternative voting systems except for maybe proportional representation although I'm not even sure if he has done that. If he has talked about approval voting, score voting, or any Condorcet method, tell me which episode that was. When has he ever said that we need to get rid of first-past-the-post voting?

In fact the problem with the next in line to the throne (Prince Charles) is that he has very public opinions (about homeopathy in the NHS and such) which many feel is grosly inappropriate and he could well be the catalyst for ending any slither of remaining power the Monarchy might have.

The Bush/Clinton argument misses the point. It is not that we like monarchy (biarchy), but that building brands is so expensive it is hard to establish a new candidate´s name on the market. Also note that Hillary has not even managed to get nominated (unfortunately in my opinion) so the idea the neme helps is strange. The press is simply to lazy to cover other candidates serriously and goes for the easiest story.
@Quiet_One10 жыл бұрын
I bet Hilary Clinton and Jeb Bush will be the nominees for both parties in 2016, but if the Republican voters have any sense they'll vote for Rand Paul instead of Bush.
