Never saw the original video but thanks for the update video. I’m looking at new ATs for my truck and really learning towards the AT4s and this kinda helped keep me on that path! Happy trailing.

Hey Dominic, my son works for Discount Tire. You really don't want to keep the tires on once they get to 3/32 at the lowest. So you started at 18/32, so you have 15/32 of tread to get to 3/32. So you've actually used about 37% of your usable tread. So since you've used, on average 4/32, that leaves you 11/32, so 11/32 divided by 15/32 is approximately 73% of tread remaining. Hope my explanation was clear and helps.

Thank you. I knew someone would help me in the comments!

3/32 would be insaneeee😂 Do not ever run tires with that low of tread. Especially a heavy EV that does light off-roading. You could maybeeeee get away with it if you drove a Honda Civic and lived in Arizona, but even that would be dangerous if it rained. As an off-road enthusiast who has a fully built wrangler on 37s, the general rule of thumb in the off-road community is to not go below 10/32. Your basic all season tire that comes on a crossover suv has 9/32-11/32. And those tires brand new have basically zero off-road traction, and struggle in snow deeper than 5 inches. So you could imagine how any tire would perform at 5/32😅 Driving a heavy EV, the Falken AT4W is honestly your best option. It comes with the most tread depth of any AT tire, only MT tires have more tread depth. And any all season or snow tire that is lighter is going to wear significantly faster, and do much worse off-road due to having significantly less tread depth. The only other comparable tire is the Mickey Thompson AT, and maybe the Toyo AT3 (but the Toyo starts with like 16/32)

Hey Dominic, did you catch our analysis on efficiency impacts from putting on an RTT and changing wheel weight? As a rough guess, you're probably loosing like 5-10% range at low speeds from the heavier tires, and maybe 10% at freeway speeds from the roof top tent. The latter is super easy to try out a 'fix', just plug up those roof air ducts so they don't aim the airstream down at the RTT and see what you get.
@dominicwilkerson2 ай бұрын
Absolutely. Like with any vehicle-not just EVs-when you modify parts away from OEM specs, you'll likely see a decrease in range, but you may gain performance in other areas.
@danb8212 ай бұрын
Definitely looking at this tire in the future. Stupid question. Does the Rivian software recalibrate its range estimates when you put on new/different tires or are the range estimates set with the stock setup of the vehicle?

@danb821 while it does adjust to your driving habits it does not take into account the extra stuff

I've only had mine for 8 days now and a little over 2100 miles. They are the best tires I have ever had. Snow, slush, wet pavement, sand and gravel. I feel like I have taken 50k miles off my truck. I still think they are too expensive but I am a dollar menu guy. They are quiet too, I was worried about that. Now I get to see how they wear.60k rating, 65k warranty, if I get 50k I will be happy.

I'm hoping for 60k out of mine, we shall see!

Leaning towards these for my 2024 GMC Sierra X-31. Being that an electric vehicle is usually heavier, I'm expecting your results or possibly better. Also, Egg Drop soup sounds wonderful.

I’m thinking these will be my next tires on my Tacoma. I’m surprised by your air pressures. Your aired down psi is nearly my daily psi. Those rivian’s I think weigh a lot more than my Tacoma.

Looking at putting these on my 2024 Frontier Pro 4X, but was worried about the weight difference from the stock Hankooks, its like 17lbs. per tire more, wonder how much that would affect the gas mileage.
