I've had a few Nissans of the years and was always impressed with them. They come with a spray-in bed liner (which should be standard in all trucks) and have just as many bells and whistles as the big 3 but with a lower price. Just recently I traded a 2016 Frontier and for a 2019 Tacoma and I gotta say the Frontier was a better truck overall. The only downside is that it didn't retain the value like a Toyota.

The hybrid really offers value when you're driving around town (without towing) using 87 octane fuel...I'm hoping that the next iteration of this hybrid is a plug-in hybrid that offers 50 miles electric-only and runs electric in that gas-guzzling -0 to 25 mph stop/go phase of driving...With 50 miles of dedicated electric only, most daily-driving/commuting would not see you at the pumps at all! Next year's Ford Ranger plug-in electric may be a game-changer...(Lets hope they don't forget to put the inverter power option also on the tailgate!)
@Pilot5453 жыл бұрын
Just saw a Ford commercial that promises to be carbon neutral at all their plants by 2035. Gotta imagine that they will apply the same logic to their vehicle lineup. Interestingly, GM came out a couple weeks ago promising that their entire vehicle lineup will be electric by 2035. Not sure what is so special about 2035, but 2 biggies have it as a target date.
@jaysson11513 жыл бұрын
That’s all fine and dandy, but there’s one detail that you and a ton of other people tend to forget (nothing personal) when talking about the ‘benefits’ of plug-ins: you’re still paying for it. Electricity is not free! Now the prices may vary depending on where you live. The whole purpose of plug-ins is really just an effort to reduce carbon emissions, not save money on fuel. The Powerboost however is the best combination of electric and gas power imo. There really is no compromise with this set up, especially in city driving.
@windfall353 жыл бұрын
@@jaysson1151 In a typical day of urban driving (let’s say to and from work-30 km each way?) what would be your estimate of the amount of fuel you’d typically need? And the cost to plug in and charge overnight? I think you’d notice the difference in cost...
@jaysson11513 жыл бұрын
John Williamson well it depends on how many kWh’s is consumed each day and how much the price is per kWh in your area. Right now we don’t have a vehicle of this size to work off of. But if you look on Torquenews, a Prius Prime owner developed a calculator on Excel that shows when it’s better to charge the battery with gasoline or by plugging it in. Like I said... it all depends on the price of gasoline vs the price of electricity, along with the efficiency of the HEV vs PHEV. Also not to mention the purchase cost between those two particular vehicles. Charging with solar panels are out of the question.
@jaysson11513 жыл бұрын
Classic trucks, yeah! I agree to an extent as well. If your intentions is to reduce your carbon emissions, then yeah, phev and full ev is the way to go. Even better if your source of electricity is solar/wind. But 99% of ALL hybrid owners still rely on the grid and the cost per kWh vs how many kWh per mile is going to vary. I’m just reminding the other guy that a plug in does not magically make the cost of commuting go away.

The Ford offers a savings of $3,500. Considering the average mileage of 70,000 miles before resale or trade-in, the F-150, with similar add-ons, can be up to $20,000 more expensive, particularly for a fully loaded model. Therefore, solely based on fuel economy and cost, the Titan remains the preferable choice.
@MikeWolff13 жыл бұрын
So quick question, on the Ford you showed a combined MPG with electric of 101 and from that 14 was driven on EV so your miles should be 101-14/4.56 gallons.. right?? @DonRyanWA3 жыл бұрын
If you don’t put premium in the titan I’m guessing gas mileage goes down to 15 miles per gallon. That’s 7 miles per gallon less than the Ford. Ford is a no brainer. Only question is how long will that hybrid motor hold up before you start having problems with it. What will be the cost to keep it running for the first 200,000 miles? I have a 2007 Nissan titan with 180,000 miles on it. Very low maintenance.

You nailed the crux of the argument. Tough to figure which one will be better for long-term reliability and which one will pay off for the fuel economy savings.
@paulkruger23103 жыл бұрын
It will never last long enough to gain back the expense plus when costly repairs start adding up it kills it. Simplicity always wins. Sort of like the diesel and gas argument. Diesels cost so much and to maintain especially with emissions these days. Unless you tow heavy all the time it doesn't make sense. Fords ecoboost are problematic cause of turbo failures and transmission failures I have seen it along with there 5.0 oil consumption issues. Now rusting. There problem is there always trying to reinvent the wheel. This battery crap has no reliability long term. Generator cost a fortune to replace and so does the battery. The vehicle is not worth the price of the repair when one fails or both. I see naturally aspirated engine get basically the same mileage without the complexity. Rather buy gas and move on than charge or worry about hybrid stuff.

Hi Tim, because your fuel consumption was so low on either truck, your mile per gallon reading on the dash will not be accurate when compared to the hand calculation method. In fact, I suspect the dash read out is more accurate than your hand calculation because your filling method could be 1/2 gallon off. If you’re off by only 1/2 gallon on 4.5 gallons, that amounts to an 11% difference. You would need to drive the truck long enough to burn at least 3/4 of a tank in order for the hand calculation to really be accurate. I bet if you burned 3/4 of a tank or more, the dash read out and the hand calculation method would match.

Why not just compare the most popular model F150, the XLT with the 5.0 engine, to the Titan? It’s frustrating. Every article I find online is always the same; Ford offers 7 different engines blah blah blah, and Nissan only offers an “old, outdated “ V8. I guarantee you that the Nissan 5.7, in the 4 door 4WD model, will out tow and outlast the Ford with the 5.0 similarly equipped. I would also love to see the two engines disassembled side by side to see the difference in build quality.
