If you recall, Toyota already has a cheap truck below Tacoma/Hilux. It is called Hilux Champ and it is primarily for the Southeast Asian market. If there is a compact truck demand in South America, they could have sold the Hilux Champ in those regions given they also have a lax safety standards and this one is actually built on the body-on-frame rear-wheel-drive IMV platform. So either, this rumor is not true or if it is true, it would be more like the smaller Hyundai Santa Cruz/Ram Rampage/Chevy Montana competitor rather than Ford Mavaerick
@jimthumerzs2301Ай бұрын
Either give us a rear seat that's actually usable, or a bed that is (6ft bed) or both. Don't do the usual compromise which makes it neither useful as a passenger car OR a small utility truck.
@cwqrpportableАй бұрын
You make a good point!
@Gene1969Ай бұрын
This is the compact truck I can see Toyota bringing here. The Hilux Stout is way more utilitarian and would be a contractors dream but, as Tim said, this truck hits the sweet spot of the sales pool. Having an engine that's already in use in the United States and Canada just makes it that much easier to build. Let the minitruck wars begin!

I just came back from a Caribbean cruise. I saw small pickups from Nissan, Mazda and Kia. Brands that don't offer small pickups in the USA or Canada. I don't think we'll see this Toyota compact truck anytime soon in North America. The small trucks are already out there. The manufacturers think we only want large trucks, so they don't make them available to us.
@vitkobylka6432Ай бұрын
Look how well the Maverick is doing in North America.
@rjallen706 күн бұрын
It's not that they aren't wanted, plenty of US consumers to buy them. The government doesn't want you to though. The United States tariff on imported trucks is 25%, also known as the "Chicken Tax". This tariff was imposed in 1964 by President Lyndon Johnson in response to tariffs on American chicken.

A small Toyota truck would be the second most important new truck. The most important compact truck will be the electric TELO. The Telo is the length of a 2-door Mini Cooper, with 350 miles of range, 500 horsepower, 10 inches of ground clearance, all wheel drive or 2WD option, and an 8-foot bed with the mid gate down. Tesla founders Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning are two of the famous investors in the Telo truck.
