As several people already commented on the last few videos, move the dam at the map edge one block inwards. There's apparently a "glitch" that pulls water through the dam blocks, so you lose water by having them right on the edge. And PLEASE, work on your pathing! With the new 4 water pumps, your beavers have to run across the whole map to get to work or to get a drink... At least one path across the water should decrease that path length quite a bit... Oh, and as others already mentioned, building a new levy wall in front of the old pumpers is a massive waste of wood. Just demolish the old pumps when the new ones are up and upgrade/rebuild the lower levy wall to the new height. Will mean you have to also rebuild the 3 flood gate pieces, but that should be doable right after a drought.

I'd seen that and I thought it was just the water going over the top but that makes more sense now, also yes the new levy wall also wastes reservoir (idk if that's spelt right) space making it smaller. Also the pathing is actually painful it waste so much time

Remember Matt, a small tank only stores up to 30 units of liquid, while a medium water tank stores _10 times_ that amount, it is genuinely a *significant upgrade* both in space taken and capacity. (meanwhile a large tanks storage is only 4 times that of a medium tank so it's not as an big upgrade until later once you're well established.) So you should switch to them at the soonest possibility next time so you can store as much water as possible as soon as possible.

Agreed on the given point, but just pointing out bit more context on the math: given the same space, medium tank stores water 2.5x more efficient compared to small tank, while large tank only 4.44x times, while correlating it with the medium tank, large tank stores water only 1.77x more effective. While large tank have the best efficiency, the medium tank triumph as the main major upgrade there

With the internal dam u're losing water, cause the volume of the levys inside the actual reservoir, almost compensates the volumes of the new dam, only go up instead of width. And move the gate to 3 the last 0.3/0.2 hours of water so you gain half a level, even if there is a very minor flood.

Loving this series, though I'm questioning why an engineer would make a dam that is clearly too small, then build a second dam inside it (which'll "steal" volume from the original dam), with enormously long pathing to the actual beaver settlement where the water is needed...it makes for good fun and curiosity of how long your beavers will survive though, I'll give you that!
@exseen24

2 things first you need more canola storage, you got plenty of seeds just no where to put the oil, its an great food with its conversion rate. 2nd you need more metal/gears for the other large tank. then more of a side note once the new pumps/platforms are done you can close off the wall without using a tunnel then just demolish and build up your previous wall instead of building a new one, also get rid of your dam paths make a path through water for easy wet fur bonus

Change the dams at the bottom of the map to floodgates and when there's .5-.3d until the drought starts, put all your gates up to max height and top off the reservoirs. Bottom pool lasted in my game almost 20 days without completely evaporating.

If you move your lowest dam back from the edge of the map 1 row, the bottom reservoir will hold water better. Like it won't get sucked off the edge of the map. I also recommend going way deeper in your mega damn. This map is ruthless on hard mode! Definitely invest in better water storage too!

Great video. 😊 You are going to need at least three of the large water storage tanks and very little pumping while in the drought and tons of pumping in the wet season. I usually flood the bottom section and grow water plants there. Good luck, you’re not yet sufficient enough to survive two or three back-to-back long droughts but you are getting there. 😊

You're in decent shape. You'll need around 100 water a day to satisfy your 34 beavers. Meaning you'll need storage between 900 and 1000 by day 9 with some water to satisfy crops/trees. Also good to note that the deeper the reservoir the lower your ratio of evapotranspiration loss, prioritize height over area. A staged pumping system with high prioritized flooded pumps that are in the reservoir is helpful. They allow you to automatically transfer beavers over once they become unflooded, and you can reach the bottom of your reservoir that way too! (Works well with bots who can pump through the night)

To be honest I have never played the game but I do love watching you efficiently making everything inefficient because you have allowed architecture to infect your builds. Can you play on the Terraces map for the next Timberborn series? It's a fairly big map with a lot of potential for massive dams, drainage and irrigation infrastructure.

RCE, I think a good idea for preserving the colony overall is to restrict moments when you let water through dam during droughts because it's clear a day or so without water won't completely decimate the colony AND every time you transition the dam lower, it spills off and wastes water while also causing damage to the colony. I think it's worthwhile to both limit how often this has to happen as well as maximizing how long the colony can last without intervention on behalf of the dam since that will extend longevity. Like, I didn't even realize that the small tank holds just 30 units and the large holds 1200! That's more than 30 units squared, so that's A LOT more stored water.
@Tommy1through9
@Tommy1through9 Жыл бұрын
Just a thought on how to help preserve water flowing through, Reading through the wiki, the end of your river has dams which only hold water up to .65 which is suboptimal during the dry season, if you could move the dams in one space to allow a pathway through then put floodgates on the edge of the map you'd be able to retain full water in that area during the dry season by closing them and then opening them in the wet season to allow the water to spill through keeping that area from flooding. This should preserve maximum water in the end of that area and have no loss when it needs to be flooded after it dries out. Love the series!

Assuming a Beaver needs 2 units a day as another viewer mentioned, that's 70 Units every day. 35*2*18=1260 You're short by about 260 with that 1000 Units, but it's nothing a few log pumps can't handle. If it were my colony, I'd turn off the Birth Tubes until the drought ended, starting when the youngest of the current generation hits adulthood. I'd also look at replacing your current Small Tanks with Large or Medium ones, the more water One can store, the better. Don't turn your nose up at Medium, it uses the same space as two Small tanks but holds 240 more units of water and won't cost Metal Blocks like the Large Tank will (though for reference, the Large tank holds 1080 units in the same space number 4 smalls, but replacing ALL your applicable water Storage is asking for a ransom in metal).

God I’m watching this and watching how much he freaks out about not having food and not having water. All I can think of every time is Matt you super high priority everything that specific priority level should only be used for food and water as it is the only resources you need for your beavers to live you don’t need oil to live you don’t need planks. Now I’ll say building water storage and making dams and stuff does fall under beaver survival as it ensures that the water doesn’t dry up and the food doesn’t die. If your really having trouble look at it like this survival is highest priority. High priority is to make stuff that makes your highest priority last longer. Medium priority is normal priority as in not essential to survival or helping it. And anything lower is stuff that is not needed but over a long period of time makes beavers happy and eventually live longer and help food and water but isn’t essential and therefore workers need not be there until let’s say the drought where your log pumpers can work but shouldn’t because of storage.

Something to think about: I know it's a bit expensive, but building platforms over rivers to place the farm houses and things that don't require ground to be built will open up land for food. Water storage close to the pumps, obviously. Also, getting to the mid game where you can build explosives should be higher priority. That will allow you to cut the river down to increase water storage capacity. Also, I love Swinter!!!

You shouldn't have built a second, higher levy behind the first, you should have waited until the back 4 pumphouses were built, destroyed the front 4, built up the front levies, rebuilt the pump houses and, during a drought, replaced the floodgates with taller ones or broke them and built levies beneath and built them higher so you could have a larger rear reservoir. You could then rebuild the rear 4 pump houses on platforms with their straws in the deepest part of the reservoir and break the pumps downstream. Once you did that, you could build levies at the end and flood that entire lower area to create another reservoir. Put platforms across the reservoir and then rebuild the pumphouses with their straws in the deep part of the river and now you've got even more water for the droughts. After that, you've got plenty of water for your vertical farms so you don't need to worry so much about farmland.

the location of your large water tank would've been better in that spot between the upstream log pumpers and your barracks. I think overall, research needs more focus. I know everything else is a more immediate, tangible issue, but the roadblock to every real solution is the fact that research comes in at like 10 per day or something and the cost of one thing the colony needs is like 1200 or whatever. It's just never going to get any closer to catching up with what is currently available, AND basic research buildings don't need power and it's not like the space they take up is an issue when there's still open space on the map.

- You need to stop forcing your beavers to run across the entire map. Make a path they actually take a short and direct one. - You should add some power storage. You are often running the wheels with nothing consuming. And it would help a lot if that excess energy could be stored. You have plenty of room for strong batteries on the large dam. Or just even make a large platform tower. - Ideally your reservoir should be the entire lower level of the map. Just build high on the dry land. Or on platforms above the reservoir. - Aqua Farms might be worth planting in the reservoir. Reportedly they need exactly 1 block deep water, but I hope that is outdated.

Hmmmmm 35 beavers * 19 days * 2 water per beaver per day = 1330 water.. since you only stored 1000 water you will have to do some more log pumping during the drought (I think thats a good idea anyway, all water you dont pump evaporates). And probably pause the breeding pods. Also, 1-deep rivers dry up after 14 days due evaporation, so make the river deeper with levees or dynamite, such that the farms stay green. You can also use the 1-block water dump cheese.

definately think investing in a little bit of dynamite to try and deepen those river channels for more water storage would be a good idea.

Install 1high dams and cross platforms instead of the half height dam blocks ive forgotten their name. Allow you to store more water just before droughts start wont dry up as quick

If you want to cheat hack the drought just use 2 dynamite on a single square in your farm areas and then pump water into the hole. This will keep the farms growing for a very long time.

I decided to do this map as a challenge with RCE, love these vids, but I am so glad I went with foxtails for this map instead of Iron Teeth. Mostly because of where he points out how everything uses water for Iron Teeth. Only thing I wish I had though would be the longer straws for the water pumpers from Iron Teeth :c

you can just pump your water storage at the beginning empty because the farm water won't dissapear on its own, it'll just stay there unless you decide to move it

Hey matt you can survive thirst for about 4 or 5 days 😅. Note the birthing pods will still pop kids out if all the beavers died and they have the resources but the kids cant become adults without alittle water

1. I don’t think you need the tunnel cos the path doesn’t service anything 2. I’d expand the current dam wall, I don’t think you gain any storage by building it inside of the current, even with the additional height

You should just terraform the land, and build a river as high as you can, like, skyhigh. And then you spam loggers and hydroponics, and you just stack up high instead of wide.

A few pieces of dynamite to create slightly deeper wholes in the river would keep everything watered during the droughts.

You don't need a thousand science and a modded tunnel, you just need stairs. And if you're not going to rebuild the path across the dam, you might as well replace them with floodgates. Better water control.

I don't know what to say at this point, Matt seemed doing fine in this episode, but I can already imagine him screwed up within 5 cycles, just because he built an extra breeding pod or done something else that tipped over the balance now.
