Hopefully you see this. But you should add sails so they go from left to right of ship, like the triangle ones that hang over side, and put them on rotors. That way you can make them turn properly against the wind.
@LawrenceOakheart
@LawrenceOakheart 2 жыл бұрын
I should mention I have the game through gamepass, but this is where I learned of the dlc which I can't afford. But it seems to use real world physics on the sails and wind. If I can eventually try this out, I could get a better idea on a ship. Maybe even give you a good design. I've made some great ones for the story.

You need to make the crows nest mast shorter the boat ran away perfectly with no giant mast. Then you added it and you kept tipping. The longer the mast the greater the moment of inertia. You know this Matt!
@leonardoperina4036
@leonardoperina4036 2 жыл бұрын
Ok, I hope you see this but I used to sail and basically the triangular sails are the better ones because they can get you upwind and downwind by just rotating them. You can't get directly upwind, that would be impossible, but you can zigzag with a certain angle relatively to the wind, usually on modern sailboats that angle is between 30 and 45 degrees. In that case the sails are almost parallel to the hull. If you are going downwind the thing you want to do is to set the sails perpendicular to the hull. In general you would want to have your sails always perpendicular to the hull when going downwind, and when going upwind to have them to a certain degree to the wind direction. In that case you'll get the maximum speed. The other problem is the fact that the ship leans when going upwind (reason why initially you couldn't get the ship upwards), so you need the bulb (the weight under the hull), but also you need to remove some sails because otherwise the ratio is imbalanced. anyway I hope to see you experiment again with sails :D p.s. sorry for bad English, I'm Italian lol

So upwind is into the wind correct?
@leonardoperina4036
@leonardoperina4036 2 жыл бұрын
@@baseballjustin5 almost, basically if you draw an arrow on the paper imagine it being the wind direction, if you tried going directly into the wind your sails would act like a flag, but if you try to go slightly to the left or to the right, the sails start to work like a wing, that is called upwind. You can test this concept when you're going in a car, with the windows down, put your hand outside and point the fingers to the car direction, with your thumb pointing up. try to point your fingers slightly to the right and the hand will start to be pushed to the right and a little to the front of the car

RCE: Square sails should have the flat parts face the bow (front) and stern (back) of the ship. the triangle sails have the flat parts facing the sides. Square sails are more efficient for running with the wind (wind behind you) through about 120 degrees (60 either side). Triangle sails are more efficient when the wind is within 120 degrees either side of your bow. You should be able to pivot the yardarms (on a square rig) or boom (fore and aft/triangle) rig to be able to have the face of the sail roughly perpendicular to the wind. Remember, air is heavy, you had way too many sails, and the amount of weight pushing your ship over far outweighed the counterbalance you had with the keel. You can reduce the length of the keel by making a wing or bulb keel, where you make the 'fin' shorter, then place the weights perpendicular to the fin.

You have to put the steering element where the propulsion is. When underwater you can do it with a paddle (like on inboards) or by moving the propulsion itself (like on outboards). When the propulsion is outside the water you have to move the propulsion itself (like on hovercrafts). However the latter wont handle as well. Kind regards, someone with a motorboat license😂

In a sail boat you adjust the sails depending the way you're facing the wind ( so you need a hinge that permits you to rotate the sails on themselves) I will try to explain you the rough idea: if you're facing directly the wind you wont have any "thrust" if you're close to facing directly the wind you need the sails to be straight down the ship like 10°, if the wind blows from the side of the ship you need to have the sails more like 45° if the wind comes from behind (thats what she says) you need the sails to be 90° you can found out more searching: sailing boat orientation in relation to wind direction
