Hi, I just wanted to say my thanks, for all the hours of interresting and illuminating podcasts that you have posted and I always look forward to each new episode ! If possible, and if its something that you could cover, I would love to hear "your ", take" on what happened to the "templars" after the "Iron King and the pope disolved the order? Did it vanish completly or did it branch out into something we still have today ? Is the country of switzerland, with its unique "bankingsystem" perhaps connected somehow ? I realise that these questions arn`t really part of the "crusades", but I think it could be an interresting podcast to listen to ! Anyways, thank you again for all the many hours of high quality intertainment that you have given us ! fallaces sunt rerum species

Glad that you are doing more podcasts, do you think you might do a podcast or a video about the Hashashin (aka the Assassins) and the Old Man of the Mountain?

+χρονης κ. True but I'm sure there is still a decent amount of information about them, they were extremely famous assassin's after all.

+χρονης κ. Well most crusade documentaries are crap, so that shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

Thanx for the great podcast! And here´s a little piece of trivia on the Kingdom of heaven: did you know that the final draft of the script was actually a fairly balanced one, painting both sides in a gray light, showing both muslims and christians doing violent acts? For example, there was a scene where the muslims urinated on crosses in front of Jerusalem( I´m not sure that they have actually done so in this particular siege, but it was commonplace in other siegees of the time, like the siege of Akra), and another scene where they burned down a church, as well a scene of some christians trampling on a Kuran (in addition to other scenes of viloence by christians). However, when this version of script was shown to several muslim scholars, they were appalled by the way that the muslims were represented, and the writers changed the script so as to not offend. But, of course, when an early cut of the film was shown to a muslim test screening audience, they were still shocked to see any muslims in the movie being shown as anything other than paragons of virtue and honor, so the movie was cut even further and it eventually ended up being the inacurate piece of anti-crusading propaganda that it is.

You just defined the Middle East. Muslims always manipulate the narrative to sound like the victim or righteous, when in reality they're usually the ones that start shit.

44:55 I remember my first forays into history and learning that we don't know much about the "dark ages". .....I go open some real books and find out there are lots of source material. I was also very dismayed that modern history barely mentions the sex slavery of the islamic world. Or the mongol world, or everywhere!!!! Literally a primary motivator for war in the islamic world was to go get female sex slaves. ....and that gets left out.
