“Clean” is the right word for Andrew’s teaching, Axel. Thank you! I agree. I appreciate how well Andrew communicates - not only proper pronunciation and repetition, but rules (and exceptions), as well as ways to think about the language so you can progress without getting hung up on literal translations or other misunderstandings. ¡Estoy enamorado de Andrew, y muy agradecido por su orientación!

Just a word of caution. The cognates mentioned here are adjectives and nouns, therefore the learner must pay attention to gender agreement. It is always good to learn them together with their corresponding article and/or feminine/masculine forms. For example act = EL acto and Insect = El Insecto, doctor = el doctor/la doctora, curious = curioso/curiosa. One of the most difficult things to get rid off in language learning is the gender agreement mistakes.
@terredee
@terredee Жыл бұрын
Gender agreement mistakes - yes! I’ve been having trouble with that, and when I see the mistake it is so obvious, and I wonder why I keep doing that. I didn’t think about WHY I keep getting that wrong - maybe because English doesn’t have gendered language - but just to hear that it’s one of the hardest things to learn at least makes me feel better!

I am a non-native English speaker. I want to learn Spanish through an app. But it was avaliable only English. When I started to learn I have got shocked because, there have been lots of words smilar not only English but also Türkish. So I am so Lucky about learning Spanish. Sentence structure seems like English, some words like English, some words like Turkish, And last but not least Good to find you, thank you very much for everything.

Cada día me convenzo de que no debo abandonar el idioma español. Yo quise hablar sólo inglés, pero al ver cómo otros están muy animados al aprender mi lengua materna, ya no quiero abandonar el español. Este profesor australiano de español pronuncia muy bien el español y en especial la «r» suave , porque para muchos es imposible pronunciarla. Ojalá que el español siga creciendo y llegue a los 1.000 millones de hablantes en el mundo así como el chino mandarín.

Another imperfect cognate system to know about involves the English word that end in "ity". The equivalent Spanish ends with "edad". Consider velocity/velocedad and the like. The word "city" is slightly different because of the shortness of the word. In sSanish it is "ciudad."
