I do think though, that at least in my experience, depression and anxiety really messes you up. Even brushing your teeth can be tough, let alone work on academics. please remember that this is a huge thing for people with mental illnesses.

yes. I have been depressed for most of my first year of college and some days I can barely force myself to go to classes, let alone spend hours studying.

totally relate, even though i don't have a mental illness (or i guess). I never thought a roommate that I can't get along can ruin my whole freshman year, but it did. I dread going back to the dorm every single day. It makes me anxious and unhappy every single day. i know it's one of the reasons why i sometimes can't put myself into studying. I was too naive to choose a random roommate and think what's the worst that's gonna happen. lol, hell is the worst that could happen

Honestly for me this depressed sate was mostly due to boredom and jus being done with my daily routine, started making friends and getting hobbies and thankfully out of the slump now.

Concise and actionable summary: 0:55 It's not about motivation, it's about habit 2:04 How to create habits (this could be a long video) 1) Commit to the habit initially (start simple and easy) 2) Form triggers 3) Compound habits together (new habits on an old/existing habit) 2:37 You don't have to do anything 4:39 Be realistic about what studying/university is - Embrace challenges - Be realistic about the amount of work that you need to put in to succeed 6:57 Adapt your environment to help you succeed 8:56 Take advantage of multi-tasking - Have studying partners 11:05 Doing something is better than doing nothing

I am currently finishing my master's thesis in medical microbiology. Although I no longer have to study for exams, I always have to search and read scientific articles and books. Today I went to the library and it was one of the most productive days I've had these past 2 weeks. Sometimes we just need to go to a different environment instead of stay at home every day. Having people around us also studying, reminds us that we are not alone
@helenejakobsen20402 жыл бұрын
So true! I am also finishing my master's thesis (albeit in psychology) at the moment, and I find that change of environment so helpful , too! Especially since a master's thesis is such a drawn out process (since you can't just finish a task in a week or so, and you exist in such a prolonged state of "not being finished with the task" if that makes sense. In theory, there is always more to read and more I could add, as opposed to being assigned a specific reading or studying a specific curriculum for an exam, where there is a clear completion element to finishing that book or that short paper. I definitely also have experienced a boost in productivity, when I separate myself somewhat from my home environment and go to a library or so, becaue it kind of creates a natural end point of work for the day, when I return home. I find it really helps, not only with motivation but also a reasonable work-life-balance.
@criticalthinker2092 жыл бұрын
Yooo, I wanna study medical microbiology, too! Do you have any idea how likely you are to find a good job after doing a master (or maybe a doctor) in that particular field? I know it's kinda bad for biologists, so I was wondering about that
@lauracabral32322 жыл бұрын
@@helenejakobsen2040 totally agree with you. For exams, I was always an organized student. However, since I started writing the thesis, I see how difficult it really is. Having to investigate alone, spending hours to find articles and read them, sometimes finding contradictory information, etc. Then I have to write in my own words. Sometimes I think I'm able to finish the intro chapter in 2 days and then it takes me 1 week! I never thought to say this, but I miss the exams😅.
@lauracabral32322 жыл бұрын
@@criticalthinker209 It depends on what you want to do after finishing your master's degree. If you want to work in clinical analysis, in a laboratory in a hospital or in the veterinary field, I think you have good chances of finding work easily. To continue on to a PhD or research is more difficult and you have to try to apply for monetary grants. My professors always told me "you have to be open-minded and think that you may have to emigrate to another country to have a better job or to do a PhD". It's hard to hear this, but this doesn't just happen in (micro)biology. I have some high school colleagues who went to the UK to get their masters and work in computer engineering because in my country (Portugal) it is very difficult to find a good job and here the salaries are 1/4 of what they earn in the UK. But if you really enjoy medical microbiology, I think you should go for it! I hope I was helpful.

I think this is the best advice video ever on youtube! I had a period when I was searching ways of doing things and tips of productivity until I understood that this is b*llshit and instead of making my life easier doing the things my way, I was searching for things that were working for others. I really do appreciate that this video isn't about WAYS of doing things done, but about mindset, and not that kind of motivational video with "blabla" stuff about mindset, but about a way of organization. The best advice that i got from this video is to expect things to be hard.Just cause ur not able to understand a topic easily doesnt mean u are dumb or u dont have enough IQ...it just means u r levelling up and need to put more effort Not understanding things in the first go is not indicative of ur intelligence or genetics,it should be expected at such a high level of academics

Hi Nasir! My name is Giulia. I'm in my final year of uni, i'm studying theatre, art and music in Florence and right now I just needed those words, ya know? I am preparing myself for an History exam and that's not my cup of tea, if you know what I mean, so it's been quite hard to sit and study 400 years of History. Anyway, i'm trying my best. My exam is on the 8th of April.. two weeks to go! These days I just couldnt focus on anything really...and that's okay. It's my life, it's my time. Please everybody remember that studying and education is NOT a race!! It's a journey! Enjoy it! Ps: after the exam im going to Louis Tomlinson show in Milan so...what a reward! Tons of love to you Nasir and to everyone. Please choose love, every single day. Be kind and be safe! ❤️
