For anyone having an issue with Lumen being greyed out everywhere but on (like I did), try turning off forward shading in project settings, reselecting your Lumen settings, and then restarting! Excellent tutorial!

Question, is there a way to replace Lumen with UE4 dynamic lighting?
@wholesome3d
@wholesome3d 4 ай бұрын
@@IncognitoActivado I realize that this is aimed at Luke, but since it’s under my comment, I liked to share my personal thoughts (I hope that’s okay) Yes, you can go with the Hardware Ray Trace lighting but then you need to an Nvidia RTX graphics card. You also have to set up the lighting, shadows and reflections for Ray Tracing in the project settings and in your Post Process volume. You also have to bake your lighting before rendering. There are a number of tutorials online that cover these steps in more detail, but in my opinion the visual difference has become so negligible since the 5.4 update that I don’t even think it’s worth it anymore. This is my opinion, at least.

I'm back to unreal after a long while... and just to thank you for the clear information your sharing and the excellent quallity of the teaching. Clear and comphrensive. Tumb up and subscribed. Plus a little maybe worthy sidenote... Your tutorial plus everything that goes along with it as the the ambient provided by Unreal Marketplace runs perfectly smooth on my laptop with i7 7700Hq 16gigRam SSD & gtx 1050 4gigs. I am mentioning this as I am surprised how well and smooth this engine runs on such a small "gaming"machine...

I personally hate the lumen. On slightly darker environments; like an enclosed warehouse scary game I’m making, it absolutely horrendous noise. It looks like stains or fog dancing around on the surfaces from far away. Turning up the quality doesn’t help too much either and then it only impacts fps. I’ve think they have a ton of fixing to do with this lumen.

@@SnakeEngine haven’t ever found one. They need to perfect lumen. I’ve seen professional grade videos and photos made in UE5; made by architects to showcase homes, and you can still see the horribly ugly shadow blotches in some areas. It’s horrendous. I personally think they need to just get rid of it until they can perfect it.

@@SnakeEngine I’ve watched a lot of them. Yes there’s obviously ways to mashes it look better with certain settings, but there is still going to be areas that you see the blotched moving shadows. It looks much better in well lit areas and especially with sunlight , but darker areas especially indoors with no direct sunlight look poor.

Trying this now in the latest version of UE5 but with this same asset / scene - when you try to increase indirect lighting it doesn't work for some reason. It does work if you build your own scene but i'd love to know how to trouble shoot it with this scene built for UE4 and i can't figure out how to do that.

I have a question. am trying to render a spot light with an image applied.. (Like a GOBO effect) its looks good in lumen but as soon as I click on path tracer. it seems that PT does not read it... AND here I thought Unreal had every little corner covered. (I guess Not) heheheh. is there something I am missing? as soon as I click PT the images projecting from my spot light disappears. any ideas? am I missing a setting? cheers!!
