Realistic STA2380 Repair

I bought a STA2700 almost just like this one. I bought it clearance 50%, for $250.00. It had issues the Radio shack techs could not fix. I finally took it to a local repair store. He repaired loose solder points on the circuit board. Fixing it was worth it. This a great sounding receiver. I have never stopped playing it. A few years ago found another for another room. Pair them up with some great Dual turntables. You have a great system. They all still work today.

I just bought one of these Sta-2380 from Ebay a few weeks ago and I absolutely love the sound quality it produces! Its very powerful and loud and sounds much better than any of my previous receivers I've owned. So far there have been no issues with it! Great Video 👍👍

Hey Bill, Almost missed the base knob, really pays to do a good inspection, New Old Stock speakers, it is amazing what folfs have hoarded away....

Generally the knobs are the first thing I check, LOL . The speakers was a cool deal. There was several of them for sale, old warehouse stock I think.

I have 2 suffering issues with the bass knob, but no visible damage. One of my 2380's seems like the gains are set set crazy high, and the FM section sounds terrible. On any of the AUX inputs there is a clearly apparent tinny-ness in the 3-8KhZ range and boosted 50-65Hz range. The other just has no bass on the right channel now :( Love these units, they carried me through my teens, and I'm saddened they aren't working well anymore.

This unit and related 2700 I found broken solder joints on pot to board. May want to check out.

Have an extra bass knob? mine's a bit finicky. Also a slight hum near the power switch and non-functional meter. Hum does disappear, meter has shown signs of life. Paired with AR28bx. Please advise :)

I'm obviously late on this but just grabbed one of these with a jvc rx-5v for $20 great sound good power.

Hey dude. I have this same receiver. Sounds excellent, but I’m trying to figure out why in the world it goes into thermal protection mode when you get a good bass note. Really irritated with that because it’s not really that loud when it happens. I really love this thing because it sounds amazing. Wish I knew what to do to fix it. If you have any ideas give me a shout.

After fixing this one I found it does it to. At first thought it may just be this one but all three sta2380s I have do it. At the moment I don't have the time to look in to it, probably next winter. Winter hobbie.. The problem is easy to fix by replacing the capacitors on the protection circuit to a larger value. Theres probably nothing wrong with them, its just a design blem

Well it looks like I’ll be diving in. The thing is almost as old as I am so I’m sure it needs to be refreshed. My family bought this brand new in 89. I reckon it’s time to find schematics because that pesky thermal protection is about to drive me insane.
