if you want to speed up progress, find someone who's already done it, it will help you dramatically you know how they say instead of wasting 5 years learning a skill on your own blindly, follow a book and you will have it down in less than a year

Sometimes i can't hold my handstand more than 5/6s and sometimes i do it for 20s+ .. And I don't know why... But practice when you have free time, hold with a wall 30s, several times, you can do pushups or you can also lay down, stomach on the floor, hands up like you're doing a handstand but on the ground, engage your muscles and tuck in your navel, it will make your brain understand the position

Good work! Flexibility is so key. With more flexibility you need less strength and vice versa. I had never tried press handstands before and one day I just got it because I had drilled my flexibility, compression strength, and regular handstands so hard for months and months previously.

At first I thought 781 days for the press alone was a bit much but then I realized you took into account the time it took to get the handstand. With that in mind, my timeframe for learning the press was roughly similar, although it broke down more along the lines of ca. 700 days of handstand basics training (up til I got a 2 min endurance hold) + basic strengthening exercises (dips, bench, overhead press etc) and then like 2 months of actual press training using the wall.

Great video man! You're super authentic for showing the real amount of time it takes for 99 % of us. I'm currently rehabbing my partial ACL tear (5months in) and it took so much discipline and work day after day just to get to walking and squatting with my bodyweight. I've probably still got 7-9 months to go till I can sprint, jump and do anything I want painlessly. These things simply take time, because our central nervous system, our ligaments, connective tissue and muscles NEED time to adapt. Comparable to a baby that could only lie on the ground after birth.

Congrats for your results and willpower for keeping grinding for it! Just a little clarification, compression strenght is not how much you can stress your shoulders but a type of ab/hip flexion strenght, when you can compress your straight legs with your upper body. It's basically what you feel at holding a V / L sit. What you needed for the press is actually the opposite, back strenght on the posterior line, since your shoulders were pretty strong enough right from the start. But really nice work anyway!

This was cool to see because I started my journey on 1/1/24 and sometimes, I find myself wondering if I'll ever hit that 10 second mark (kind of my first milestone as well). On my 4th month and definitely feel I've progressed a lot (mainly just being upside down is easy for me where I felt like my face would explode that first month) but can be easy to get discouraged if you let yourself. I gave myself 2 years and now I see, it might even be a bit longer.. but it's ok! I too, started with the goal of press to handstand (and not just handstand). I train 6 days a week and an hour of that is flexibility/stretching. I've already gone from not being able to touch my elbows on the floor, in the pancake, to having my nose on the floor for a full minute (or longer if I really want).. so been very excited about my flexibility progress! The handstand part of my workout is about 30 minutes and I'm up to about 10 sets a session now (started w/ maybe 3 or 4 and felt like I just couldn't do anymore) and most of those are just wall holds, practicing time under tension.. with slow kick offs (back and forth on/off the wall - both facing and back to wall). So I know I'll get there and just wanted to say thanks! It's nice to see someone starting where I did and get to the place you are. When I can get to where you are, mission accomplished! Super motivating video here! I'm in my mid-fifties, too.. so it's been nice to finally walk completely away from the weights and just train pull/push body exercises (got the muscle up for the first time last year and up to 8 of those now). Keep it up, brother!

I probably hit the press randomly and sporadically on day 200 or so… but on day 500 I’m still cleaning it up, and making it more consistent. What a nightmare of a skill to pursue. What happened to me was my shoulder strength was much higher a year ago than today… I gradually lost strength and gained flexibility so my overall ability stayed stagnant. Did you eventually learn how to roll out of a handstand? It's very easy but also very useful, just tuck in your head and touch the ground with your shoulderblades and roll. You can even do it with straight arms.
@Michaelas10sk8
@Michaelas10sk8 10 ай бұрын
Tbh, a big reason is it took you so long was the break you took for middle splits training, which isn't necessary for standing press. I mean it's somewhat helpful if you can do it well in the air, but even if you can do it on the floor it's no guarantee you can do it actively in the air. On the other hand, PANCAKE is far more helpful since it allows you to compress your hips to your torso, which have a lot more mass than your legs, therby bring your center of mass a lot closer to your hands. It's the latter that would have saved you time, along with training pressing strength. Bottom line - train pancake for press, not middle splits (those are more useful for learning the straddle OAHS later on).

I agree! looking back, many practices during my progression seems inaccurate or unnecessary. But while doing it, I had no clue. I figured out optimal training routine and practices only by entering a try & error. And thats what I wanted to share, it takes try/error, time, and mistakes :) Thanks for your kind input though - I 100% agree with you on the importance of pancake for Press!

@@AboutWellnessKevin I don't really agree.. I learned this piece of information and most of what I know by watching lots of freely-available KZbin videos. For instance, Sondre Berg and Tom Merrick both talk about the specific flexibility needed. Then for people with money, there are some incredible quality programs out there like Handstand Factory that go into even more detail. Trial & error always plays a role yes, but it shouldn't be the only way to progress imo..
