Hey there my wife is a hair stylist and when we saw you use the serrated scissors for texturing we had a lightbulb moment. Texturizing scissors!!! If you search hair sheers you’ll see some that have a comb like side. These help give hair texture and they’d work amazing for small reeds or foliage! Love your KZbin content and what you do. I hope that this can help you out.

Some neat tricks there as usual :) I need to adapt this technique at some point in future to make some modular height waterfalls for D&D to work with my modular systems (though I just know the thought of this and the gaps it would entail is killing your soul...) Also, I totally agree with your point of view on bringing the detail and realism from dioramas and railways to wargaming, your experiments with this sort of thing to add durability to things like seafoam are absolutely invaluable 👍

Blowtorch, not Bunsen burner - Bunsens are the things that sat on your chemistry bench at school. Er... that's it really! Absolutely stunning work, 15 minutes and I went from "oh hell i could never do that" to "I reckon I could do that". That has to be the mark of a good teacher. Soooperb! The person who commissioned this must be well chuffed. The only thing I would do different is paint the rock face immediately behind the waterfall a darker colour to make it look wet.

Splash effects can be much more easily done with clear hot-glue. Doesn’t require any thing but a torch and a couple sticks. It dries in seconds and will still take acrylic paint.

Something to try is Mod Podge for the rapids. You can spread it on and then use an airbrush with air only and create the rapids you need and drys quickly and can easily be painted. Good work on the project.

If you want something that will trim things to different lengths, you want to order some thinning shears for hair cutting. What you used are pinking shears, which cut the same length, but with a zig zag edge. They are great for preventing fraying in fabric, but won't do what you wanted them to do. The thinning shears will though.

Another excellent video Luke. At approx.8:05 you said use either white spirit or IPA to soften the resin, to reduce spikes etc. As IPA evaporates faster than White Spirit could you not have used it to thin the resin initially, thus reducing the drying time?

Luke, I don't want to be that guy, when this piece is so beautiful and otherwise extremely well crafted.... but I think you need to think about water erosion a little more for future waterfall builds. There are a few little things in this build that are wrong in terms of realism/how water/waterfalls work. Water flows along the shortest lowest path and wears away the ground along its path. This is why the top of the waterfall looks wrong. Waterfalls always form a U shape in the land (when viewed from above), with the tips of the U being the outcroppings of land/stone and the base of the U being where the water drops down. The bottom of the waterfall should be deeper than the surrounding water as it is the area that is taking the most impact from the falling water and is the most warn away - the plunge pool. The rocks you have at the bottom should either have pools in them or be smaller, sharp and jagged if they have just fallen from the overhang above with pools around them and an indent on the side where the water is falling. Sorry, just some minor issues. I would recommend Googling for "geography of a waterfall" and looking at the images that come up. Lots of in-depth explanations of why waterfalls look the way they do and lots of things to learn from to create a more believable waterfall. Something like this might help explain what I mean: images.app.goo.gl/NkvLzoYNKRGpXUke6 I imagine most people will dismiss this by saying "it's a fantasy waterfall, who cares". But I know you are a perfectionist who always likes to improve his artform. So hopefully these little things will help you improve on an otherwise perfect waterfall build. Keep up the great work.

Hi to... Black Magic Craft, Luke’s Aps - Geek Gaming Scenics, Midwinter Minis and Wyloch’s Armory. I want to issue you 4 with a challenge, if I may... CLOUDS / TWISTERS / WIND EFFECTS UNDER FLYING MODELS!?! I have been looking at a lot of sites and KZbin vids but they all seem to focus on explosions or fire markers and not figures that are on clear plastic supports, like Kroak or “gravtanks”. I didn’t just want to use cotton wool as it is very white and a little un-realistic. When you look at something that hovers it also kicks up a bit of dust and debris but I have found this difficult to achieve and have it look good / realistic! Any chance the four of you could give things a go with a vid of your findings / ideas / suggestions on how to make a flying model look more like it’s flying / hovering, please? P.S. Great to see all of you posting again under these difficult circumstances!

What are you even talking about! you never fold resin unless you have a vacuum chamber, the resin didnt set because the harderner wasnt mixed in well with the resin fully and the heat is only there to pop the bubbles......the resin is a thermal reaction too much heat and it will crack or set on fire. is this the first time you using resin because everything you have said is wrong.
@waynewayoaveyard9397
@waynewayoaveyard9397 4 жыл бұрын
@@GeekGamingScenics Polyurethane is a type of resin mate 100% if its the liquid plastic. resin doesnt need external heat to set. its a chemical reaction thats why you have part A and part B, the casting resin and the hardener. people use blow torches only to pop the bubbles if they dont have a vacuum chamber. if you didnt add the hardener it would never harden despite adding as much heat as you wanted.
