I think that's perhaps the biggest and perhaps most difficult step to attaining realism. Difficult in that it requires attacking the high dollar toys. You do a wonderful job on these projects.

I am so intimidated by air brushes, I try to stay away from paint thinner these days after 15 years in a factory getting on my skin daily. Thank you for showing both methods I have lost over 20 friends to cancer since I left the job. I use thinner etc. very sparingly these days and avoid it when possible. Thanks again for all the great videos.
@johnkelley98776 жыл бұрын
I like both methods but I prefer the brush method too. It adds more streaks then the airbrush does. The engines have a nice used look to them and the weathering adds character to any model. Thanks for sharing this tutorial.
@marklinofsweden6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on that for sure. Once you get your way with the brush, it´ll take you further in terms of weathering.

Nicely done. You can also just remove the slider before you apply the paint, to save the trouble of cleaning it.
@marklinofsweden6 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes. :) That is what I think every time too before starting. But! Then I rush into the fun of weathering and forget all about the slider and end up with the task of cleaning it. I suspect there are more people also missing that detail, so then it might be a good idea also how to teach a proper cleaning. Thank you for the positive feedback! Wish you a nice week!

I was surprised the way you weather your locomotives (no special care for wheel contacts, for the windows...). The acrylic paints seems not to catch on some plastic parts (using oil paints is more convenient) but I have to admit that the result is very realistic. Good job 👍 what about a green locomotive (SNCB for exemple) ? Would you use the same colors ? Thanks

Excellent video, I weather buildings with a wash of Tamiya matt black and they look good, but I've never done a locomotive. I think now I will try it on a Fleischmann type 50 in N scale. No airbrush, however.

I have tried the airbrush, but the learning curve is steep. And that becomes a problem when your past 50. The other downfall is the vulnerability of the airbrush, i my experience it is more cleaning then painting. So i am happy you explain both ways, airbrush as well as the traditional way.

Great video...a quick remark on the reference picture you show at the begining...it shows a DR (Deutsche Reichsbahn) steamer of DDR days. In eastern Germany mostly "brown coal" was used where as in the West "black coal" was used...it was a question of available resources. The brownish tone of the eastern BR50 is hence not necessarily too correct for a western DB version...great video never the less and top results.

One hint for newcomers to weathering is to buy an old locomotive or rolling stock, even non running but too cheap to care about and start by practicing on that. Incidentally English is a language full of traps for the non native speaker. And although it differs considerably throughout the world the word 'swab' is universally pronounced as "swob" like the 'a" was an 'o'.
