I owned one of these (well, the coupe) from new in 2008. Yes, most modern cars will be quicker than the Si, but the Civic Si isn't necessarily about outright velocity or acceleration, but rather the experience, the purity of the drive. It has one of the all-time best naturally aspirated 4-cylinders ever made, and arguably the best feeling manual transmission ever put into a fwd car (as long as your 3rd gear synchro isn't poopy). Bringing a K20 motor up to redline is one of the most joyful things that an auto enthusiast can experience.

The honda ap1 s2000 broke the world record for highest horsepower output per displacement in a naturally aspirated vehicle [over 100/liter] and still holds that record today and the civic Si is the 2nd runnerup [about 100/liter]. This car is also much quicker then this guy makes them out to be. Losing horsepower through age is super marginal this guy just cant shift or drive for shit. Bone stock you can hit 6.2 and with wider and stickier tires and performance motor mounts can already get you sub 5 second 0 to 60 the power curve from this car is steep so 0 to 60 time only tells half the story of how fast the si is thats why theres cars with 5 second 0 to 60 times that have the same quarter mile time as the Si Not to mention this car especially the coupe is super stylish and aggressive and it will become a collectors car for sure like the supercharged and turbocharged cobalt SS and the neon srt4

I put 300,000 kms of northern Alberta driving through several winters and it never complained. The only repair I had to make, outside of regular maintenance, was an O2 sensor. I’ll always remember the time I hit 240km/h when driving to Whitehorse to see my girl for a week. At 180+ km/h, the car just felt like it sat down and embraced the road. Sadly, I lost the car after I hit my second deer with it. I still drove it for a while after, but insurance declared it a write-off. Best car I ever owned.

And also if you decide to throw a turbo kit on it guess what 430hp or even a little bit more to the wheels (STOCK INTERNAlS) without changing pistons rods etc.... This car doesn't have an mpg meter, my new car does and it's taught me that city driving where I am is god awful, but city driving where my parents live provides much better results due to more stoplights, less stop signs, and longer times traveled (less miles driven on a cold engine). 26-27 mpg will not happen unless it's mild city driving, suburban stuff.

The description says it's not the most reliable?? I got 280k miles out of mine before I sold it to a friend who still drives today. Nothing but oil changes and tires and clutch when needed. Motor or transmission never gave me any issues. It's probable THE most reliable thing you can buy.
@Realistick4 жыл бұрын
I said that because I put a few grand into mine after 20k miles. Third gear issues, AC failures, a major paint lawsuit, motor mounts and a few other smaller issues plague these things (all of these things were issues on my own 8th gen, check the description more). It certainly has its own issues, it isn’t unreliable, and I actually said it's the most reliable in the class if you watch the video! But saying it is corolla reliable would be ignorant. I've had people tell me their BMW 3 series made it to 200k with no problems as well, taking care of a car is so important, and sometimes, people just get lucky too!
@koloy9994 жыл бұрын
@@Realistick hey man really enjoyed the video but gonna have to disagree with it not being as reliable as a Corolla. Even with the earlier years having a serious synchro issue it doesnt mean you still can't get where you're going. As long as you do regular maintenance these cars will last 300k+ miles. And things like motor mounts will wear on all cars although I would agree if you said these cars are prone to it because of how they're meant to be driven but I've seen cars with only 50K with blown motor mounts. But maybe I just have a definition of reliable lol as long as it runs and drives to me it is reliable but I've daily driven a car that the 2nd gear synchro was completely shot and the wheel bearing was so bad you couldn't hear yourself think above 25mph.

I have the 2011 Si Sedan, and it has 188k miles registered. I am playing with my thoughts if I should replace it with a new car, Type R, but I'm too old for it. Or wait for the new TLX. However, I still love the car and how it behaves. True, it's not powerful enough compared to newer cars, but it still drives well. Very Well. My Si was a replacement for my old 2001 Civic EX coupe. That old car lasted me 350k and it was still going strong, but the availability of my current Si made me decide to let go of my coupe in favor of this one. From my experience, this Si will last me another 170k. But by the time I get there, probably it will take me another 10 years now that my commute was cut from 100 miles one way, to 60 miles one way, to 30, then finally 15 miles one way. Do I have the patience to wait for another 10 years for a new car? Only time will tell.

I have a 2009 lx coupe. I wish I got the Si, but it’s too late now since most aren’t stock anymore 🙄 And yes motor mounts are terrible. I replaced mine but it broke again..Might try to fix it again but idk could be aftermarket issues but thing is idk what the mechanic used.

@@vilhelmstein2091 If you can find one with 27k on it, i'd say its worth it. depends on price at the end of the day. the clearcoat issue plagues 99% of earlier-year 8th gens, and like 60-70% of later years. Check if the car is up to date on recalls. the paint itself was recalled on most models, with a 7-year paint warranty placed on them from the manufacturing date. However, with 27k miles, what year is it? it was only the 8th gen (06-11) & some 7th gens (2000-05) that had the issue, 9th and up seem mostly fine. Ultimately, it depends if you're getting it to be a super-reliable cheap car or if its just a car for a little bit. If its an R18 or K-series then that engine will last easily 500k KMs with proper maintenance, making it worth it in my mind.

Another thing I’d like to add about how your car has lost hp is that elevation plays a role in this too
@Realistick4 жыл бұрын
It certainly does, I took this thing to 11000 ft and it dropped to 11 seconds! However this was done about 800 feet above sea level and NA subarus have no problem getting somewhat close to their quoted 0-60s so it isn't a big factor here but I should have mentioned the elevation.

I had a 2013 manual golf tdi (diesel buyback) that I replaced with an 09 coupe si. If i were to compare, the golf had a WAY better interior, a lot more torque (300 ft lbs. after tune), and handled like a regular car (soft suspension and comfortable). The golf felt faster because of the torque, but the civic is slightly faster. Between the 2 I prefer the civic because it's visceral, and handles way better (i have coilovers), it sounds AMAZING, and looks cooler. I do miss that diesel golf though :(
@thebeldam58234 жыл бұрын
I'm in the same boat as you! I had a golf tdi and got a 2008 si coupe. I miss the turbo and torque sometimes, but the Si is so much more fun to drive imo
@ilovehotdogs1257904 жыл бұрын
The Beldam agreed, i had a stage 2 tune on the golf and 2nd gear just had all the torque. It felt like a fast car until it stopped so soon and you had to shift. The civic doesn’t push you back in your seat nearly as hard but it just keeps pulling all the way to redline. Huge change from redlining at 5000rpm to 8650rpm (hondata tune). Our civics just have a huge usable power band. Only thing is... the golf had WAY better fuel economy. I could easily get 40mpg highway on that diesel, i’m in the 20s with my civic. I guess it doesn’t help that vtec is so addicting.

To be fair most of the parts you replaced are normal maintenance, not actual repairs. Id say reliability looks pretty solid for a car that was likely driven hard alot
@Realistick3 жыл бұрын
On paper, some of it looked like regular maintenance but the AC, clutch master cylinder, small interior problems, paint issues, synchro issues and the $2k on brake stuff (dealer did 1600 in stuff before I bought it at 116k) over less than two years is definitely not normal. Not bad, but not merely maintenance. Keep in mind, the car was inspected and running well when purchased. Plus the paint issue is huge for someone who cares about how the car looks. Bushings, pads, rotors, fluid changes, belt replacements, etc are normal maintenance and I did a lot of those too. This was my most expensive car to own (out of the only 5 that I have had). I still trust these more than a WRX, GTI, or really any of its competitors, but these certainly had their common problems that dented my wallet and people should know and understand that before buying!
