2007 Honda Civic SI Review - The Guilt-free Sports Sedan (8th Gen)

The eighth-generation Civic SI is not the quickest car for the price, or the most reliable, but it might be the best affordable sports sedan out there. Watch and find out why!
QUICK NOTE:
At 9:57 I said 8300 rpm redline but I meant to say fuel cutoff (limiter).
A FEW THINGS I LEFT OUT:
- The paint had a lawsuit against it since it was holding up so poorly.
- The AC compressor is a known failure for Hondas of the time, my car was a victim of this as well, the fix is usually between $800-1200.
- Motor mounts are known to be bad as well, I have one on its way out as well.
- The third gear issue was recognized by Honda and came defected when new. Second gear synchronizers are also a prominent issue, an issue that can be helped through Amsoil synchromesh gear oil and a new slave cylinder,
- This is my personal car that I have owned for 18 months.
Thank you Ben Dorocke for helping film this review!

This car is really nice. There’s a reason why some folks swear by the 8th gen Civic Si compared to the 9th gen and Impreza WRX’s of the same year.

@@kevinwhiting8391 facts i say this all the time theyre quick af under 65 after that tho they start to feel a little underwhelming but can still hang for sure plus the styling imo is just awesome The coupe specifically looks so good and i love how you can just see how the car has elements about it that are race bike inspired like the 2 tier and digital gauge cluster and the much higher rev limit

@@kevinwhiting8391 im with you too kany people look at the specs on paper instead of actual experience. For example my previous car was a 2008 acura tl type S and the car was slightly faster 0 to 60 but after totalling it and went and got an 8th gen Si and i actually enjoy my fg2 way more than my type s even though the Tl pulled a little harder on the highway but like i said under 65 id say about as quick

If you own one of these, don’t make the mistake of selling it. I sold mine and tried an NC miata and CTR. Both were great cars but neither satisfy me like the Si. Happy to say I’m back in a 8th gen, found a 2011 with 32k miles. I hope to keep this one for many decades.

I owned one of these (well, the coupe) from new in 2008. Yes, most modern cars will be quicker than the Si, but the Civic Si isn't necessarily about outright velocity or acceleration, but rather the experience, the purity of the drive. It has one of the all-time best naturally aspirated 4-cylinders ever made, and arguably the best feeling manual transmission ever put into a fwd car (as long as your 3rd gear synchro isn't poopy). Bringing a K20 motor up to redline is one of the most joyful things that an auto enthusiast can experience.

The honda ap1 s2000 broke the world record for highest horsepower output per displacement in a naturally aspirated vehicle [over 100/liter] and still holds that record today and the civic Si is the 2nd runnerup [about 100/liter]. This car is also much quicker then this guy makes them out to be. Losing horsepower through age is super marginal this guy just cant shift or drive for shit. Bone stock you can hit 6.2 and with wider and stickier tires and performance motor mounts can already get you sub 5 second 0 to 60 the power curve from this car is steep so 0 to 60 time only tells half the story of how fast the si is thats why theres cars with 5 second 0 to 60 times that have the same quarter mile time as the Si Not to mention this car especially the coupe is super stylish and aggressive and it will become a collectors car for sure like the supercharged and turbocharged cobalt SS and the neon srt4

I had a nighthawk black 07 Si coupe and it is still my favourite car I’ve ever owned and I miss it every day. That K20, the trans/clutch combo and the Vtech were amazing. I put 300,000 kms of northern Alberta driving through several winters and it never complained. The only repair I had to make, outside of regular maintenance, was an O2 sensor. I’ll always remember the time I hit 240km/h when driving to Whitehorse to see my girl for a week. At 180+ km/h, the car just felt like it sat down and embraced the road. Sadly, I lost the car after I hit my second deer with it. I still drove it for a while after, but insurance declared it a write-off. Best car I ever owned.

Yo great video! Loved how you communicated the appeal of this Si. Can't agree more! I have a 2011 FA5 Sedan with close to 120k miles. Bought it at 100k. Strangely enough, I may have one of the most reliable ones around - no paint, transmission, or other weird problems. It came with the HFP suspension from the previous owner and it rides harsh, but handles amazing and looks sick! The only real mods I have is a rev-hang delete mod (not flashpro), and upgraded shifter bushings. I love this car so much, and don't want to give it up for anything!

The 8th gen Si. Some People who dont own one underestimate them and yet some who do own one make them out to be lambos. You get performance motor mounts and torque mounts and wider tires will get you a better 0 to 60, the tire spin and 2nd gear ends at 58 forcing another shift is the reason why it looks slow on paper but it most definetely is quicker than it seems

These are great first manual cars but i recommend be easy for a bit the car is very forgiving but if youre young and its your first car overall my advice is learn how to drive well first before you buy a performance car so you dont crash it like i said its super forgiving with its VSA and helical LSD and it not being insanely fast but the issue is its a very high revving car so you have to be really keep it in the upper revs for power which compared to other cars is easier to lose control especially in rain or snow

Ps my trunk is finicky too if I don't open it right it'll close on me and I'm going to take off my head yet again the Civic almost knocking me out as a small complaint you just got to know I've had some close calls with people who have no idea about the trunk got to have fast reflexes or the Civil get you

You forgot to tell that maybe is not fast enough when is stock but what about when you put all the bolts ons like hondata intake etc.... This car have a lot of parts to make this engine quick you can produce with all the bolt ons 260 hp to the wheels that's almost 300hp to the crank that's impressive for n/a 4 cylinder engine and the better part is that still realiable..... And also if you decide to throw a turbo kit on it guess what 430hp or even a little bit more to the wheels (STOCK INTERNAlS) without changing pistons rods etc.... This is so far the best 4 cylinder engine K Series power 🔥

I didn't want to get too in-depth on it, these things are certainly capable if you want them to be but I mean, so are a lot of other cars so I left it at "there are a lot of options and a big community to help you." I don't usually modify my vehicles so I will leave all of that specific mod talk to the many out there that do! Also, I definitely think it is fast enough, it's quick enough to be fun when it is stock which was the original goal with the car! No complaints from me about the engine or power.

Found one few days ago actually, super clean, 101K miles, Black and just only $4300. Thinking to get it as a first car... dunno... there are some other good cars too and it would be easier to learn how to drive on a automatic gearbox.

If you actually found a decent one for that price, BUY IT! My first car was a manual mazda3 (I learned stick on it too). This is an easy car to learn on and a ton of fun, you will thank yourself in the long run.

@@Realistick Oh hello, I really didn't expect you would answer... Really interesting and informative videos, just found this channel. So... yeah I really like this car too, it's just so amazing kinda ideal, but there is an 2005 Acura TL with 125K miles for only $3400, maybe even cheaper. Saw some Scion TCs, and some cool Civic Coupes... Anyways I'm going to buy it in few months. So I hope I will figure it out soon. I will consider your recommendations for sure. Thanks. Cheers!

I have the 2011 Si Sedan, and it has 188k miles registered. I am playing with my thoughts if I should replace it with a new car, Type R, but I'm too old for it. Or wait for the new TLX. However, I still love the car and how it behaves. True, it's not powerful enough compared to newer cars, but it still drives well. Very Well. My Si was a replacement for my old 2001 Civic EX coupe. That old car lasted me 350k and it was still going strong, but the availability of my current Si made me decide to let go of my coupe in favor of this one. From my experience, this Si will last me another 170k. But by the time I get there, probably it will take me another 10 years now that my commute was cut from 100 miles one way, to 60 miles one way, to 30, then finally 15 miles one way. Do I have the patience to wait for another 10 years for a new car? Only time will tell.

The description says it's not the most reliable?? I got 280k miles out of mine before I sold it to a friend who still drives today. Nothing but oil changes and tires and clutch when needed. Motor or transmission never gave me any issues. It's probable THE most reliable thing you can buy.
@Realistick
@Realistick 4 жыл бұрын
I said that because I put a few grand into mine after 20k miles. Third gear issues, AC failures, a major paint lawsuit, motor mounts and a few other smaller issues plague these things (all of these things were issues on my own 8th gen, check the description more). It certainly has its own issues, it isn’t unreliable, and I actually said it's the most reliable in the class if you watch the video! But saying it is corolla reliable would be ignorant. I've had people tell me their BMW 3 series made it to 200k with no problems as well, taking care of a car is so important, and sometimes, people just get lucky too!
@koloy999

@@Realistick hey man really enjoyed the video but gonna have to disagree with it not being as reliable as a Corolla. Even with the earlier years having a serious synchro issue it doesnt mean you still can't get where you're going. As long as you do regular maintenance these cars will last 300k+ miles. And things like motor mounts will wear on all cars although I would agree if you said these cars are prone to it because of how they're meant to be driven but I've seen cars with only 50K with blown motor mounts. But maybe I just have a definition of reliable lol as long as it runs and drives to me it is reliable but I've daily driven a car that the 2nd gear synchro was completely shot and the wheel bearing was so bad you couldn't hear yourself think above 25mph.

To be fair most of the parts you replaced are normal maintenance, not actual repairs. Id say reliability looks pretty solid for a car that was likely driven hard alot
@Realistick
@Realistick 3 жыл бұрын
On paper, some of it looked like regular maintenance but the AC, clutch master cylinder, small interior problems, paint issues, synchro issues and the $2k on brake stuff (dealer did 1600 in stuff before I bought it at 116k) over less than two years is definitely not normal. Not bad, but not merely maintenance. Keep in mind, the car was inspected and running well when purchased. Plus the paint issue is huge for someone who cares about how the car looks. Bushings, pads, rotors, fluid changes, belt replacements, etc are normal maintenance and I did a lot of those too. This was my most expensive car to own (out of the only 5 that I have had). I still trust these more than a WRX, GTI, or really any of its competitors, but these certainly had their common problems that dented my wallet and people should know and understand that before buying!
