I don't know what you watched, but most of the challenge pushing against peterson was language based around hick's preference to not add obstacles to reality to philosophical concepts. Its good advice, but there wasn't really any true challenge against peterson's ideas. Just pushing to add greater clarification

I love JP but he still talked a bit too much here. He would make a string of points and then interupt the guest who was responding to the first. Think about it like this. How often does a guest have to ask JP what he thinks? Almost never because JP will jump into the conversation before that can happen.

I remember in 2016 when I first encountered Jordan Peterson on KZbin. I had been returning from Calgary to go back in Quebec and live at my parents, at 27 years old, trying to reconstruct my life bit by bit. I have been single all my life. When Peterson say that you have no right to claim you can restructure society if you can't even fix your own bedroom, I realised I couldn't love a woman if I couldn't even extend that courtesy towards myself. Today I have been with my girlfriend for 5 years, and I bought a house with her. Thank you Jordan for teaching me the hardest lesson of my life.

I don't consider the power to continue speaking through someone's interjections to be disagreeable; it's powerfull.
@LEDB89Ай бұрын
@@TheDarZone I'm thinking in terms of how Peterson himself talks about personality traits. The polite and agreeable thing to do would be to cede to the other person as soon as they start talking. You have to be at least somewhat disagreeable to say implicitly, "Your interruption is rude and I will not allow you to do it." Either way, I find it creates a much better, more interesting conversation when guests do not let Peterson dominate, which I don't think he does maliciously, but rather he gets so excited about ideas that he can't restrain himself.

The way you push us to profoundly question and analyse reality is something else. I always had an inquisitive nature but I think I lacked the propper tools to ask the right questions. I find myself with a lot of answers but also many more questions, wich is very exciting. Just a few months ago I was immersed in a fog of desperation and a dimmed version of reality. I had a very "logical" way of thinking but couldn't realise how limiting it was. The very equisitive nature I have, both brought me to this awful position and took me out of it. I feel ashamed for almost giving up, but that pales in comparison to how grateful I am to be alive now. I am slowly dipping my toes on the religious aspect of it all and where it fits in this new perception, but there certaily is much more room for exploration in me now. Thank you for your inifinite bravery and curiosity, and willingness to share all your steps towards discovery. Cheers from Brazil, professor. I'll be soon moving to your home country and I sure as hell am going to fight for the good cause over there.

But I have to Really fight to keep up. Both with the thoughts and ideas that are ‘exploding’ out but also the much higher level of vocabulary being used. Pause, rewind, play, pause, rewind, play all afternoon. But I never come away from your word feeling that I wish I could have that time back. Like I do with SO much of what passes for entertainment these days. Thank you for your hard work. Thank you that you made it a mission to help educate us poor slobs out here in the void. I really appreciated the PROFESSOR vs PROFESSOR combination here. Almost no one EVER says no to PETERSON in a way he is forced to acknowledge. But Peterson respects the dissent and tries to adjust himself and his opinion. He did this immediately and was not afraid to say, “THATS A GOOD OBJECTION”. WE NEED THIS LEVEL OF DISCOURSE IN AND AT ALL LEVELS OF HUMAN INTERACTION. I love the humility of both men. They speak as though Truth is ABOVE them. A very enjoyable discussion on a very windy night here in England. Dr Hicks is an engaging speaker and his five Peterson Academy courses sound genuinely interesting. Dr Peterson was in great form as ever, and he was looking exceptionally smart in that dark teal suit and stylish tie. "We Who Wrestle With God" has been a joy to read so far (I'm up to page 336): the ideas are easy to grasp, carefully explained and with the usual references to a multitude of sources, which are all listed at the back. I've learned a great deal so far, it's a thought-provoking book and very uplifting too. My only criticism - and it is very minor one - is that Allen Lane publishers don't seem to have done a good job with the proof reading, lots of little errors or omissions that the proof reader hasn't spotted. That wasn't at all the case with the two 12 Rules For Life books. Hopefully Dr Peterson can tell them about this and subsequent printings will not contain so many "typos". But it's been a great read so far and I'd like to thank Dr Peterson for writing what we all hope will be another international bestseller.👍🎯

Truth is the highest seated on the hierarchy of endeavours like Dr. Peterson explained we weight the facts and we classify them on the basis of what we consider important or perhaps relevant on whatever spectrum we measure it by. Truth ends up being heaviest meta narrative and often times that weight itself is based on what others experience, for example 2+2 is 4 and that’s an observation others can make so we evidently value the input of others in our auto determining factors. And to go even deeper we value these inputs from others as we much because we subconsciously associate them with survival right so it stood the test of time therefore it’s true or sophisticated by evolution.

It was a great pleasure listening to your dialogues with Dr Stephen Hicks. Dr Peterson, you have chosen one of the best to teach at your university. I nevertheless regret that you still do not see that the love of power guides many individuals today in our society. That is the case in politics, science, big pharma, etc… The working class is still under the domination of rich owners and others to work for them. This situation is still alive and well. You can see it at work, in the rapport of the working class and the abusive power of capitalism. After all the working classes struggled, constant strikes and battles, over eon of time, to have better conditions, are now losing all acquired benefits, to the arrival of migrants working for a lower salary. Surely you cannot ignore, that from time immemorial these battles, in the balance of power have been relentless.

The title here, “the end of nihilism,” reminds me of the first time I learned the word “nihilism.” It was in a poetry class in college back in the aughts, when we were introduced to the poetry of James Tate. I have been a lover of poetry since I was a child and I found Tate’s use of the poetic form to convey nihilism to be sacrilegious. That was probably my first encounter with postmodernism, and I’ve been at war with it ever since.
