As a student who was schooled in Maharashtra state board, I never knew that Mughal history was taught in this way to the students of other boards. We had entire 7th standard textbook dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maratha Swarajya. Since childhood I have only seen movies and tv serials about Shivaji Maharaj's bravery strories

I studied from the Maharashtra state board. So the Main focus was on Shivaji Maharaj and Peshwas. We had the invasions from the north west, Delhi sultanate, timeline of sultans, then Mughal rulers timeline, Wars of Akbar, battle of mughals with Rajputs, Ahoms etc. all of this in just one chapter in small paragraphs for each topic.

You left out Raja Dahir of Sindh who fought valiantly against Qasim in 712 BCE but was outnumbered and stunned by the brutality. Also, his queen who eventually committed Jauhar (the first ever in Indian history) after two of the princesses were taken away to be presented as war trophies in Baghdad. As a history teacher I used to teach the correct version but unfortunately for exams students were forced to write from the textbook to get their grades. Thankfully that will change now but teachers too need to be decolonized.

12 years I studied in a cbse school. 6 years I studied history both in curriculum and out of curriculum. Not one line mentioned the bravery of hari singh nalwa , the battle of saraghari , bappa rawal. I didn't see even 1 line on rani durgavati or tanhaji malusare in a single textbook. We have 2 3 lines on prithviraj chauhan , maharana pratap , maharaja ranjit singh , maybe 1 or 2 mentions of rana kumbha and rana sanga but an entire freaking chapter on muhammad ghori and mahmud ghazni. Why aren't we taught about chatrapati shivaji , lachit barphukan, maharana pratap but are given pointless knowledge on mughals and sultans?

What I'm getting is that Indian history is very rich, and you probably don't have the time in the curriculum to give proper attention to all the heroes and nations that existed since the ancient times. Is there a lot of regional variation in Indian education? Perhaps kids will find it more interesting to learn about heroes from their own province than trying to cram in absolute everything or attention to whip the history into a single narrative.

In the ICSE board, our Class 9th History book has approximately 2 chapters dedicated to Mughal empire. Surely, they have also shed light on the Indus Valley Civilization and such, but I cannot remember studying about the Indian Kings as extensively as the Delhi Sultanate. Even if there were mentions of Indian Kings, Mughal Empire was mostly praised for the introduction of a composite culture in India.

Am from TN and I studied in Anglo Indian school. The history was mostly about Mughals and British alone. I never even knew about Sivaji maharaj's victory and victory of other Indian kings over Mughals. The books never even had much about our own Cholas, Cheras and Pandyas. It was all about Mughal licking, British industrial revolution, Akbar laid trees, British built schools and shit! I heard about Ahoms only once I joined my work and started browing internet some 15 years back.

Totally agreed - chapters on Mughal dynasty should NOT be removed - but replaced with true information. I was thinking of the same thing when you mentioned that they are being removed. There is a lot to say here, but in short, I will say this - Mughals did exactly the same thing that every muslim dynasty did when they captured each nation starting from the neighborhood of Arabia since the time of Muhammad. The Jizya tax on non-muslims was a policy that Muhammad (the Islam founder) himself implemented during his time, and every muslim ruler carried that policy with them. If every muslim reads Islamic texts and understand them rationally, they will face a jaw-dropping revelation, and quit being a muslim. Muslims only believe what they are verbally taught, not what they read. I wish they read quran with tafseer (exegesis), and understand the context of every sentence in it - that is when they will see how wrong the religion is. I am not done completing quran yet, but already I am convinced that quran is not a book for God, and Islam is not a true religion.

There are so many things that raises further questions for which there is no answer. If Zakat and Jizyah are the same, why 2 different names for them?? Jizyah was way higher compared to Zakat. When it comes to slavery, Quran never disapproves slavery, which was normal in their society. Also female slaves can be used as an additional sex object (in addition to your 4 wives). There is not a single disapproval in the whole of Quran of slavery. Now we the muslims say that we don't have slavery now. We didn't abolish slavery until the western world abolished and took steps to abolish in the rest of the world. Even today Arabian countries capture the passports of employees working there on visas, and the employee is at the mercy of their employer if he/she needs to travel. That is another form of slavery. You will never find that in any other countries. Read the whole of Quran with Tafseer - that will take a long time - Anyway let's read all of Quran with Tafseer, my friend.

wise dad. My father did the same too. He purchased a lot of Gitas (of different languages, since we can all speak 6-7 languages, including me, my brother and my mom too). If you're wondering what languages I can speak, these are some of it - Hindi, English (duh), Bengali, Assamese, Mising Tani Agom, Sanskrit and Nepali. I learnt some extra foreign languages too in addition to that [Japanese, a little bit of Korean (i dropped korean ever since they made racial remarks against india) and Russian]. I am hoping to be one of the first people to translate the entire Bhagavad Gita into either one of these three languages or more if possible and spread our culture to different parts of the world. I am already keeping the Japanese translated Gita in my works. I hope someday it'll be published. It's so cool to write your culture in some separate language, just to express the beauty of your own culture. I am aware that Sato Hiroyuki has already published a Japanese translated Gita on 2022. But I don't think his translations are accurate and to the point since it was mostly translated from English. I want it to be a pure and direct translation from Sanskrit to Japanese and not English to Japanese. That's the goal. It'll take some years but I'll get there eventually. And I also plan to do the same for Mahabharat too, that'd take me more than 5-6 years probably but I'd do my best.

Mughal empire is not completely removed from textbooks, students will study it in lower classes, only 12th class part is removed, same goes for other topics in other subjects. If you are from CBSE you know how many times we studied about Mughal Empire and Delhi Sultanate and Indian Nationalist movement (in class 7th and 8th) I think it's a good step as students will not have study these boredomsome chapters again and again in 12th class, NEP is adding the contribution of our Indian legends like Shivaji Maharaj, Rana Pratap and many more in their places from different parts of India.
