Cerniglia's sister has insisted that taking part in the show did not adversely affect her brother. "He really liked Gordon and the show was great," she said. "The show was also great for business. It really helped tremendously. There are no hard feelings at all from our family to Gordon Ramsay, who is a wonderful man. His behaviour on the show was played up for the cameras."

If you watch the UK version of Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon is a totally different person. He actually joins in on the pranks and tomfoolery. By the time the American version of Kitchen Nightmares came around, he was suddenly much more serious. It seems that American Television turned him into an asshole, as a means of boosting ratings. It is quite unfortunate.

It's really sad that the suicide rates for people in the hospitality/food industry have been on the rise since 2016. It really didn't hit the spotlight as being a known problem until Anthony Bourdain took his own life. Kat Kinsman started a group/site called Chefs With Issues, and having been a chef for most of my working life, its been a major lifesaver for myself and a lot of the other chefs I've worked with. Take care of yourselves, folks. It's worth it.

@rocketbilly
@rocketbilly Жыл бұрын
@@chuyuen441 I wish I had verifiable answers for that. All I can really offer is what I've noticed from my 15 years of being a chef and working in kitchens. Being a chef isn't sunshine and daisies. Its hard, it is exhausting, and it can be really unrewarding at times. It can and probably will kill your social life. Most of all it is incredibly stressful. Stressful mentally *and* physically. I have seen what this industry can do to people, its why I left it before it completely destroyed my body. And there's a lot of us who still love it, mind. I still miss it every day. On top of that, restaurant workers in general have the highest incidences of alcoholism and the third-highest drug abuse rate amongst all professions. That has its own issues that they throw into the already complex, bubbling stew that is a human. Maybe its just more noticed thanks to social media, sites like youtube or reddit.

Not to mention the people mourning them will be effected by others' disrespect too. you dont have to worry about these things or go out of your way to respect the dead but you shouldnt shame people who do or purposefully disrespect people. The restaurant business can grind people to dust. I worked at a country club at 18 and went from being a waiter to learning in the kitchen. Getting screamed at by the chef, time stresses and working long hours was brutal. We had an amazingly kind sous chef Kenny who was around 59. One day we couldn't find him until someone saw him in the walk in freezer dead. He literally had a massive heart attack and died. I realized then I did not want that kind of life and went back to college.

When it comes to suicide, what people don't know or realize is the person who commits' this act has had thoughts about it for quite sometime before it actually happens, it's not something most people do out of haste or because they've been criticized by Gordon Ramsey, the way Joe felt on the inside was starting to reflect on the outside, his restaurant was a good indication of that. In the end the poor guy was left with more debt than happiness. His death was symbolic for how his life was drowning in debt. R.I.P Joe

It's NOT ALL ABOUT DEBT. He genuinely had issues going on, within himself and really needed help. It is true, as someone who has attempted suicide before; we have and donut long thought into for a while. My 2nd attempt was back in 1997 I tried to hire at hit man to take myself or have me disappear: because, I didn't want to leave a mess behind. I looked into getting a gun buck I didn't like the thought of that. It's hard to share this. I still struggle with these thoughts and feelings. However, I have gotten Very Good therapy over the years. I also know where some of these feelings came from. Also, I looked into the study of the brain and abuse and more like how having epilepsy can also affect someone who was poisoned.

Short of Gordon standing on the bridge and pushing Joe down it, there is no reason to even hint that Gordon has "bullied him" into suicide. Especially after pointing out prior, how well Joe did because of Gordon and that he has thrived since the show... Beside, Joe was a grown man and he would have killed himself much sooner, since he was so much in debt. So if anything, Gordon should be awarded a medal for prolonging that troubled man's life. We have to stand up for our life choices and take responsibility, don't you dare to shift the blame on others for your shortcomings. Great video and thank you for highlighting this story. It puts into perspective what really matters to many people....money. as the vultures were circling the corpse and looking for scraps. It’s completely insane that police would arrest someone for being “under the influence” after they got help at the hospital! There’s supposed to be safe haven laws now but so many people fear being arrested that it’s exactly why they won’t call to get someone help after they’ve OD’d. That’s how my father in law died earlier this year. He had fentanyl poisoning & collapsed on the floor. He could’ve easily been saved with Narcan but the guy with him was scared & left him there. By the time he’d been found his brain had gone too long without oxygen so he was taken off life support. He was a good man with a big heart, I miss him everyday 😢

At least us teachers get the summer off. These people have to deal with this crap 24/7. Unfortunately many talented chefs who open restaurants are not good at business and cannot afford to hire a qualified restaurant manager. Equally as important as the quality of the food is being versed in labor costs, food costs, spoilage control, food margins and break even costs. Without controlling these areas yiu have no chance.

I'd have one or two things in the supplement area, but meat, produce, deli, and bakery would have massive numbers compared to mine. It also taught me how much of a bitch it is to track all that stuff to the point I had to teach myself Excel in order to get a handle on it.

If you really study Gordon Ramsay, you can see that he's a good man. He really tries to help people, and he gets upset himself when others are upset and down on themselves. He's a father to 6 children, and he's so sweet to kids and elderly people especially. He's a very busy, successful man who is under tremendous pressure, but he can still be kind. Sure he has a temper and a potty-mouth, but he is fair with his judgements. It's terrible that he has been dragged into this other man's tragedy 😢

And we used quality ingredients. That makes all the difference.

I work in the restaurant business - about to go to work as I'm writing this, in fact - and it's definitely not a glamorous lifestyle. Strenuous work when in a rush and you feel like you're not earning enough for the amount of work you're putting out during these rushes. It does a toll, but I'm overall proud of my work. I hope that other people in the restaurant business, especially chefs, find healthy ways to deal with their stress, because it's becoming a real struggle with constantly increasing prices in rent and food.

Blaming Gordon is also horrible for another reason: There was an episode of the UK kitchen nightmares where Gordon found out that the chef had a drinking problem and Gordon did his best to make sure to help the guy. But the chef hid from him that the drinking was more serious until it was too late. Gordon pointed out that if he had known it was that serious, he would've taken a different and more gentler approch. And he recommended the chef to quit the business and take care of himself. The chef later said in interviews that Gordon booked him into therapy and he is now sober thanks to that. With those stuff in mind, would you really think Gordon would ignore Joseph's mental health problems?

When people start taking men's issues seriously instead of being told as males to "get over it or "grow up," maybe that wouldn't be such an issue. This is why suicide rates are significantly higher in men because our health issues whether they be mental or physical are largely ignored, all I ever see is emphasis on women's health and pink ribbons, that's great, too bad it doesn't apply to men. See, these people are a great example of a good thing taken too far. It's perfectly okay to have a more relaxed and casual atmosphere in the workplace. It helps to reduce stress on your workers, as well as reduce the likelihood of interpersonal clashes, which might hinder the work being done. I know I get better work done when I'm in a comfortable and friendly environment. That being said, taking it too far and making it feel more like a hangout spot between friends than a workplace just sends all the positive aspects of a more relaxed environment right down the shitter.

Plenty of people with no clue how to run a business open restaurants; everyone thinks there's nothing to it.First, it's not like any other business; what is specifically involved in becoming successful is mutually exclusive.Secondly, cooking in a restaurant is totally different from cooking at home.The mistakes made here are fairly typical of what I've seen in places that close in a year or two. Never hire friends or family, - it's always a disaster, - and keep the staff's personal lives as far distant as possible.You could see how deeply invested this guy's ego and identity was from the outset, - a quality that might attract initial attention in the media and the public imagination, but that never lasts, and frequently turns desperate and ugly.Go in humble, or be humbled.

I couldn't watch the entire video. I remember this episode well. Joe seemed like a jovial guy on the show. The thing is, in real life, when you're under the gun financially, things can get dark really fast. When you turn to drugs and or alcohol, your ability to have clarity is diminished. It feels like Joe viewed his scenario as entirely hopeless and gave up on life. That's really very sad, especially for his family and friends. In reality, he could have likely gotten a good job at another place using his talents to start over without having to start at the bottom. I think at times, people just can't think logically and life becomes overwhelming for them. This sucks, but it's reality for some, sadly. Rest in Peace Joe, I'm sure you're great ly missed.

I am so glad the family shut that shit down about Gordon. Chef is one of the best people alive today.
