@ccaagg Жыл бұрын
@@TLguitar It's not a religious agenda - Israeli Jews are in large part from the diaspora prior to the Holocaust - they are a _different people_ to the Arabs of the region. It's an agenda pertaining to ethnicity, since the Israeli government has been allowing illegal settlements in Palestine, forcing Arabs out of their native homeland and engaging in state violence against Arabs in Palestine. We're just a few steps short of an all-out ethnic cleansing going on in the apartheid state of Israel, and you're wilfully ignorant of simple reality if you deny this. Israel, however, has a lot of power and diplomatic value to the western world, hence why the Israel is pretty much the only country doing this kind of thing without it being denounced by any western government. No sanctions, nothing. Virtually all international rights organisations recognise that Israel is an apartheid state (as do the _African National Congress_ itself). All Israeli and Palestinian people should be able to live, equally, in their historic homeland in peace, under a government with _neither_ the Arab Muslims or Israeli Jews having hegemony. All that Palestinians want is fair political representation and for their land to stop being effectively stolen. We know from India and Pakistan that a two-state 'solution' will only lead to a forever war. Nobody should be persecuted in or forced out of their homeland because of their religion or ethnicity.

Just a correction about the Somaliland thing, it was recognised for those five days and is still recognised today by these countries : China, Egypt, Ethiopia, France, Ghana, Israel, Libya and the Soviet Union when it existed. Oh and you know one thing I find crazy about Somalia and Somaliland, is that they're both allies with both North AND South Korea, which I find slightly crazy.
@EpicMiniMeatwad Жыл бұрын
Respectively or truly?
@hehsomeone7071 Жыл бұрын
@@EpicMiniMeatwad if you're talking about the alliance with both Koreas, Somaliland have been in an alliance with North Korea formally since 1967. And the alliance with South Korea was established in 1987, which I think are mainly because of what Somalis export to Korea. Things like Molluscs, Scrap Copper, fish and car parts. And I think the relationship between Somalia and North Korea is genuine enough, because Somalia, Eritrea and Ethiopia have already faced UN Sanctions for their alliance with NK. And one of the key reasons Somalia and other countries in the Horn of Africa are allied with NK, is mainly because of their assistance with the Soviets in Civil Wars. The 1974 overthrow of Ethiopia’s pro-American Emperor Haile Selassie and establishment of a Marxist government in Ethiopia caused the Soviet Union to redirect its military resources away from Mogadishu and toward building an alliance with Addis Ababa. North Korea followed the USSR’s lead, and provided support for Ethiopian forces during their successful efforts to withstand Somali tribal aggression in the 1977-78 Ogaden War. The 1991 collapse of Marxist regimes in Somalia and Ethiopia caused North Korea to adopt a more balanced approach to the region. During the 1990s, North Korea assisted Ethiopia’s counter-insurgency efforts in Eritrea and Tigray with provisions of ammunition, rocket launchers, mortar bombs, and grenades. Despite U.S. attempts to convince Ethiopia to comply with UN sanctions against North Korea, the Ethiopian military authorized a major purchase of North Korean weapons in 2007 to strengthen its counterterrorism campaign, further consolidating the Addis Ababa-Pyongyang relationship. Damn that took like half an hour to write, but hope that explains things

But in the Olympics, the country that’s recognised is Great Britain, so ends up with a team compromising of players from all these countries. Famously with Welsh players refusing to participate in the national anthem in 2012. In Rugby, ROI and Northern Ireland play as one country because the IRFU was formed before independence and never split.

Fun fact: The current country of Timor-Leste had a very similar situation to Somaliland. Not even a week after the Portuguese left, Indonesia unilaterally invaded and annexed them. This lasted from 1975 to 1999, because Indonesia was never able to break the will of the people there. In 1999, Indonesia left, and the territory briefly reverted to Portuguese rule until independence was established in 2002. Some people say that Somaliland voluntarily joined with Somalia, but that's really not true. It was pre-arranged between the UK and Italy. The local population did not want it.

@jpnihil58683 жыл бұрын
Correct with regards to the Indonesian invasion - there wasn't even a proper independence transition, Portuguese troops and administration left and Indonesia invaded with tacit US support in order to prevent a potential USSR-aligned guerrilla movement from coming to power. The territory did not revert to Portuguese rule in 1999, though - after weeks of scorched earth violence fostered by Indonesia following the overwhelming vote in favour of independence, the Indonesian government finally caved to international pressure and accepted a UN presence in the territory with a goal to prepare East Timor for independence. It just happens that the UN and most western countries (except Australia...) never recognized neither the Timorese independence of 1975 nor the subsequent Indonesian annexation, this meant that as far as recognition was concerned East Timor was a Portuguese territory until it became sovereign in May 2002.

You usually don't recognise because you claim it's your territory and then if others support your claim they can't recognise it either. Though it seems "what's a China?" over there is a bit of an exception. The issue is that if let's say Cyprus recognised the Turkish occupation then they cannot claim it's their country anymore, it's basically foregoing your rights. Kind of weird how you can't simply recognise an entity exists and still claim that if it was ever taken over by some entity you decided on then you'd support that. As in "X acknowledge north Cyprus is Turkish territory but if Cyprus was to invade it, X would side with Cyprus provided they actually win because we ain't doing nothing about it other than claim we don't acknowledge that a war happened"
